best way to describe burnt clothes?

Say some clothes you're wearing have been burnt, they smell like smoke, and they have several burnt/smoke marks on them.

What is the best way to describe this, such as the odor from the smell and what the actual clothes, (such as a T-shirt) look like?

I believe you're looking for:

His clothes have been charred black, like coal. The jeans felt hot to the touch as some of the soot fell to his skin.

The clothes would smell like someone's been smoking ten packs a day. We're talking stinky and covery in soot. His skin'd be red and there'd be charred marks on his face and all over. The clothes would have black streaks and probably some black soot on it.

Was it really necessary to start a whole thread just to ask how to describe something so small that will probably only appear for a second in your story? Seems like this is just taking up forum space to me...*shrugs*



But Ledian_X pretty much answered your question. He didn't exactly make the best sentence out of it (that's okay, man *pats*) but that pretty much sums it up. Though I think a person's clothing would smell less like tobacco and more like smoke.

Oh, and there would also be burnt holes in the fabric of the clothing. These are clean holes that may as well have been cut with a pair of scissors- only the edge is slightly charred on them. At least, that’s how my sweatshirt looks with the hole on it from where white ash from a campfire burnt through it. Looks like someone used a hole-puncher on it. No jokes. XD
Of course, it depends on how bad the burn is- if it’s a bit of ash, it’ll just be small burnt holes, but if it was touched by flames then there would be these sort of black streaks going up the clothing in some kind of weird, uneven pattern. xp

Well, than lets make this into a Q&A thread reguarding whats the best way to describe...you get the point. How about I ask first. Ok, what is the best way to discribe somebody ona heart monitor crashing and the process to bring them back. What would be the best way to compose that whole scene?(give me both if they are brought back and if they arnt. please)
