Best Way to get 'Original Pokemon' ?

Hello,

My DSi should be arriving by the end of the week (knock on marrowhack-skull) and I'm going to get Pokemon Platinum as there's not much point getting Pearl/Diamond.

Short of going out getting a GBA, a 3rd gen game and another DS to put the 3rd gen game into and trading to my dsi, what would the best way to get a charmander or bulbasaur for plat? Is trading viable and what type of pokemon would I be expected to be able to trade for a level 5 charmander for example?

You would not be able to trade a Charmander, because you probably won't be able to see one.
The only way is FRLG.

But you probably wouldn't have to trade too much. Just look in the Charmander line's thread in the Trade Forum under 4th Gen Wifi Center and see what people are asking for.
