Just a notice, we recently discovered that someone got into a moderator account and started hard deleting a load of key and legacy threads...around 150 threads have been lost dating back to 2007 and some weeks ago so we can't roll the forums back.
Luckily no personal data could be accessed by this moderator, and we've altered the permissions so hard deleting isn't possible in the future

If Volcarona is going to beat Garchomp, upping its stats and using powerful attacks is the only way I can see it winning.

we can't really say that without knowing how powerful alders potential volcarona is and its moveset

Yeah, I think that BW2 is a great opportunity to "fix" the rivalry between Ash and Trip. I hope that Trip will take part in the WT and he'll make it to the semi-finals or something like that, and not lose in his first battle.

Ash and Trip rivalry is perfectly fine the way it is and doesn't need to be fix. Hopefully Trip will be in the World Battle Tournament and get some more serious battles .

I hope for that. And more trip's development

It's perfectly fine the way it is?

No, it needs more development. Trip is supposed to be Ash's main rival just like Paul was but right now - their "rivalry" is no different than Ash having a "rivalry" with any other trainer who will show up at the Unova League. Nothing makes it stand out while it should, it stays where it is and Ash has to beg Trip to battle him or either have Iris provoke him in order to agree to a battle.

Paul, on the other hand, had conflicts with Ash. Paul appeared frequently and pushed Ash over the edge forcing him to get stronger. How can Ash and Trip have a good rivalry when Trip barely shows up? When he's had little character development? DP had the whole Reggie/Brandon thing going on around the seventh gym and we're what - at the eight gym already? All we know is that Trip wants to defeat Alder and that he was disappointed by Alder's behavior once he finally got the chance to meet him.

Best Wishes 2 is pretty much the only chance for writers to give their relationship and rivalry the boost it needs.

Hopefully Trip will be in the World Battle Tournament and get some more serious battles .
For this, I hope too.

Although the explanation was a little confusing, go watch the Lucian episode of the DP series then come back here.

It's true that he said you must defeat the E4 to challenge the Champion, but it obviously doesn't hold any weight since both Cynthia and Alder were able to be challenged on the spot without those requirements.

But that still doesn't prove my original point wrong that a Champion loses their title upon defeat, and nothing outside of the games has been stated otherwise.

From what we've seen so far in the anime you have to defeat the Elite four in battle to battle the champion in an official 6v6 battle. Obviously there are exceptions not every battle a champion has is going to be an official battle, I mean think back to how many unofficial gym battles Ash has had where the badge wouldn't of been a prize, or Cilan - since he's still technically a gym leader.

As for your explanation about "nothing outside the games has been stated otherwise." You relied entirely on the games in your argument that once the champion was defeated they lost there title, it wasn't until I brought up the Cynthia battle in BW that you suddenly reverted to this defence. At the end of the day yes it could be a different system from the games, but from what we've seen so far there is nothing to suggest it is, and if your going to keep going along the point it's something different entirely your going to switch from speculation to fandom.

It has never been seen or stated that you have to battle the Champion in 6v6 battle.

But we're not talking about some random match here, we're talking about an official tournament where a battle with Alder is the prize.

As for your explanation about "nothing outside the games has been stated otherwise." You relied entirely on the games in your argument that once the champion was defeated they lost there title, it wasn't until I brought up the Cynthia battle in BW that you suddenly reverted to this defence.

Because there's nothing else besides the games to draw an argument from, why are people having such a hard time understanding this?

At the end of the day yes it could be a different system from the games, but from what we've seen so far there is nothing to suggest it is, and if your going to keep going along the point it's something different entirely your going to switch from speculation to fandom.

Alder and Cynthia suggest it is.

What hasn't been clarified is whether or not a Champion loses their title to a winning challenger in the anime like they do in the games. So it's all fair speculation.

With the likes of Cynthia and Caitlin participating, I don't see why the winner shouldn't be granted the title of a new Champion upon defeating Alder.

It would only be fair.

One person who I hope defeats Alder: Drayden. It would make me incredibly happy.

If we see something like your avatar happening in BW2, then I'd be even happier!!! Epic Ice Beam-Samurott is epic!

Hey, what if Ash gets beaten by Drayden here? Doesn't that warrant him to rematch Drayden in Opelucid as well? It's just a thought. Iris needs to battle him anyway, so why not force a reason for Ash to fight him at that point as well?

Because the Champion defends his title in the league, not in the world tournament.

The world tournament champion, is the world champion, not a regional champion.

And do we have that anywhere confirmed? Who says they won't allow the winner to become the new Champion? :/

It's a junior division, not the actual world tournament.

Hahahaha! Burn!

But seriously, this topic needs to be dropped here and moved to the world tournament discussion thread. Don't want to minimod, but this is all pretty much specifically the stuff that needs to go in there and is obstructing the discussion about plot relevance in BW2...

You know who I'd like to make an appearance in BW2, good old nostalgic singing Jigglypuff. Now that would be great, if Jessalina can come back after so long, then so should Jigglypuff.

If Ash ended up with a Samurott at the end of the entire Best Wishes saga, I will post a picture of myself dancing to Rick Astely. But I can't see it happening and feel that Oshawott is stricted to being a marketing pokemon though it could end up like Quilava...

I strongly feel that Ash will battle both Drayden and Shizui here, and that he should beat Shizui but lose to Drayden. Either Drayden or Cynthia imo would be acceptable losses for him, though if the gang do go to Opelucid City, Ash should either get a rematch against him or help train Iris to battle him to prove herself in her plotline.

It's a junior division? Well that explains no appearences from the likes of Lance and Steven Stone. Hopefully though we'll get more appearences from non unova trainers excluding Cynthia and Dawn.

Because it makes no sense and would make the league and badge quest worthless.

Exactly, even more of a reason, why the title shouldn't change hands in a Junior cup, where apparently you don't have to be a big shot to enter, so you are telling me that trainers go for months collecting badges to be able to enter the league and beat everyone there to then beat the Elite 4 and defeat the champ but a random dood, can challenge the champion for his title in a Junior tournament...

It makes no sense, plus Adeku would smash Shirona(trolololololo)...

Let's go to the beach, each.
I'm in need of some clarification. I've been seeing a lot of posts about Eevee around this section, and I'm wondering if we know when it'll appear.

So if Cynthia loses she'll lose her title as well? Because it's inevitable if your theory is true that at least one champion is going to lose there title during this tournament..

This argument has gotten really old, you're the only person who seems to have this opinion and all evidence and logic points in the opposite direction, so lets drop it shall we.

Most pokemon in the poster(manly the ones upfront) have been confirmed to appear, so yeah Eevee migth eventually appear just like Corpshi and Rioulo, we also know Shirona has a Glaceon maybe the "Eevee" appears in that episode.

Who knows what will happen at the World Tournament, maybe someone will lose their title? We don't know.

And all evidence and logic points in the direction of the games, which are still the only source that has have ever shown or stated how a Champion loses their ranking. The only reason this argument has gotten so old is because people keep failing to realize this.
