Best/Worst Horror Movie of the Decade

This is a copied idea, but one I really like. I hear a ton about what movies define a decade, and I want to hear what people have to say from a horror movie perspective, because those are a personal favorite of mine. Since preference does take into account, I would like to hear why you liked/didn't like the movie, and it helps against people just saying something is bad.

Worst Movie: The Devil Inside. I actually like found footage films if they do something unique or creative, but this movie doesn't even end on a cheap jump scare, this is a theatrical film that ends telling you to go to a website.

Best Movie: In terms of all factors I'd have to say Get Out. This is a film that builds on themes across a generation and decade and isn't afraid to hide it across symbolism, it's something that will make you question a systemic theme.

Alternate option: V/H/S: This is an Anthology film that captures horror if you're filming from a VHS recorder, and while so many cheap options use this for cheap jump scares, outside of 1 story (the glitch one) this does a very good job of making these videos feel real

Alternate option 2: It Follows: This is a brilliant film with a creative monster, and doesn't spell things out at all. There are several points where you aren't sure if anyone is this monster, and they establish a clear pattern of logic that both preys on modern fears, but isn't cheap enough to laugh at.

Honestly, I completely agree with your picks for the best. Get Out in particular is not only a fantastic horror movie, but just a great movie period. I think it's a perfect film for people who aren't typical horror fans as it does so much with it's narrative.

My pick for Worst would likely be The Curse of La Llorona. Not only does it fail as a horror movie, but it could have been any generic ghost movie. La Llorona is a creepy concept as a whole, and the movie could have been done really well... but it just seems like another typical "ghost haunts family hurr durr" movie. Not to mention that they had the audacity to make it into a movie in The Conjuring universe?

Best: It chapter 1. Liked the build up and the new take on Pennywise was creepier than I thought it would be.

Worst: A Quiet Place. Full of plot holes and a bit nonsensical at parts. Didn't find it scary as such, just rather frustrating.

Has anyone seen the Susoiria remake? Any Dario Argento/Lucio Fulci fans? Italian horror?

I haven't really seen any horror movies, but I wanted to add what little of a piece I had.

I typically like horror when its suggested, subtle, and psychological. Though these movies aren't from this decade, you can say the Hitchcockian horrors sort of did that, as it didn't rely on cheap scare tactics, but rather invoked a sense of mystery and unsettling unevenness.

One sort-of example of a much more modern film is Blackkklansman. It's not a horror movie, but it does a good job showing how scary racism was and still is. It does this through disturbing music, and how events are protrayed.

What I don't like from horror movies are cheap jump scares, but what I really don't like is torture porn designed to make you feel disgusted scare. The former is just a cheap you-can't-fight-it scenario, while the latter is just reliant on gore more than story telling, or symbolism, or anything that I would actually like from horror movies.

I thought Quiet Place did get a bit more credit than it probably deserved. In terms of how the movie looks I think it does a really good job, but yeah the actual plot suffers from your general "How could a family stop monsters that destroyed the world?" stuff, and I did kind of roll my eyes when they did the "This movie has a complex outside theme like Get Out", when it doesn't really.

Exactly. It had good cinematography, but outside of that, not much else. It was just them trying to get away from the monsters and then just happening to finally stumble upon their weakness. By then, I just didn't care.

Even Star Trek Beyond handled things better with the whole 'enemy is weak to sound' trope.

I love horror movies that aren't just about scaring people, so movies like IT and tv shows like the Haunting of Hill house are my favorite.

After years of watching bad horror movies i can easily spot a bad one, so i can't say i watched a bad one recently, cuz i tend to avoid them.

Best: I kinda liked the Surprisa remake, also the first sinister was kinda cool, same with mama, but i guess thats it?
Worst: Honestly, anything conjuring, the monsters look sooo good, but their potential is wasted on scaring people, lets not forget Birdbox and some of the other crap like a quiet place or tbh, anything? (there was a l o t of crap this decade).

Best: I don't have favorite horror movies, which are actually scary and likable to me.
Worst: Troll 2, obviously.

Get Out is one of the best horror movies in a long time because it was both scary and had a social commentary point to it.

best was definitely Get Out. well written, smart, and one of the scariest horror movies I think I've ever seen.

worst was probably the new Blair Witch movie. On its own its already a pretty bad movie, but as someone who really likes the original... god it's so bad.
