Beta findings

I know Gulzar has a thread on HM06, the beta item, but I thought we should have another beta thread that revolves around everything beta.

To get the ball rolling, there is a cheat device related code that allows you to fight Professor Oak in Yellow. For that to even be possible, Professor Oak and his party of pokemon, all regular poke's, would have to be programmed into Yellow. That means that somewhere in the game, the player was supposed to fight the Prof. Where do you think this might have gone into the storyline?

P.S. It would be good if you post any other beta findings in this thread.

mabye oak could have been part of the league/league champ/gym leader
thats the only thing i can think of where you could battle oak.

That's possible, because his pokemon's levels are around elite four level, high 50's low 60's.

A mixture of types, these were the pokemon:

Tauros level 66, Exeggcutor level 67, Arcanine level 68, Blastoise level 69, and Gyarados level 70.

Interesting...IIRC, I tried that same code on my Blue ROM. My game says he wants to battle, but then the game crashes. I wonder what it was that made it possible in Yellow. I'll try to look at a Yellow game and see if it works.
EDIT: Can you tell me what the Oak code is, or a link? I don't want to mess around with the codes all day, even if it is quite fun to find glitches and trainers.
EDIT2: Is it just me or do level/pkmn modifier codes affect trainer teams? I used a "Catch Pokemon at lvlv99" code, and all Oak's Pokemon were 99.

cool,so mabye he wasnt actually in the league and you were meant to battle him onece the leagues finished e.g once you complete your dex.

EDIT:that team is kinda like possible gary teams on R/B isnt it.

I think you'd have to battle Oak at the end of cerulean cave. To see if you're able enough to catch mewtwo.

Know that is possible. But maybe they replaced Gary as him. What if Oak was your original rival, but then the creators said "Screw this" and made Gary not the proffesor but the rival, kinda like a switcha-roo.

Yes. Also, Tentacruel was supposed to be named Man O' War, I think. The pokemon that had names before their current ones can be found on Bulbapedia.

I think you were ment to fight Ookido Hakase after the Elite 4 and Blue.
You would get transported back to your house and go to his lab where you would fight him.

I found a surfboard while making Pokemon Gray, my Red you-know-what. Everyone knows about it.

On Green, at the start where the guy is on the ground....I translated it and I think it came out as "Yopparatta" which is Japanese for "Drunk"

I think he was supposed to be drunk in the American games, but they changed it.

Oh yes, I own a real Green cart, maybe I should explore and do translations.

I think he was supposed to be drunk in the American games, but they changed it.

They changed it because American kids can't know what drunks are, they're too young! In Wario Land 2 or 3, there are polar bear enemies that throw ice balls at you that make you move weirdly. In the Japanese version of the game, the enemies hold beer mugs and throw not ice, but beer at you, which makes you move weirdly because you're drunk from it.

I don't know if this is a glitch or a beta find but I was looking for a dugtrio on my blue when the battle rival song pops up walks up to you but I saw flickering people and someone said before my game froze.
"Fancy finding you here. Have you been keeping up with your training? Let's battle!" Were you supposed to find your rival there? it would be a good training spot for that time in the game. So is it beta or a glitch??

Wasn't in Green, it was more likely to be a glitch....seeing as how thats totally not normal.
