Beyond the Rainbow! (873)

Mr. Reloaded

Cause a pirate is free
Goodra's arc would have been a little better had it not been so rushed, if they had kept him a Goomy for at least a season then slowly started up the evolutions it would have been a lot better.

Would it have eased the butthurt Goodra caused when he was released? Probably not. But it would have given the audience to care about him more. Still was a decent arc just needed a lot more time.

Sarah, your female voice is showing.

Meh. I didn't care about Goodra because its development was extremely rushed. Hell, its only important scenes it had were the ONLY ones that had in its list.

And of course, Florges is pardoned from her genocidal actions, because apparently it was too much to ask the perfectly-innocent Quagsire and Wooper to let her comatose child rest for an ungodly amount of time in a very small pool of miracle water. Oh yeah, and Floette just wakes up conveniently when it's put back into the Goodra-made water, and somehow it was able to tell what happened that it made both leaders become friends... And why do the army of Pokemon with tons of Poison moves even listen to Florges? They can overthrow her any day of the week.

Yeah, this episode was thoroughly poorly made.

I feel like it would have worked better if it had been clear from the start that it wasn't going to be sticking around. Sort of like a Larvitar type deal, where Ash promises to help it grow stronger and return it to its homeland. If they had focused more on Ash training it and helping it grow instead of it just evolving randomly then the whole arc would have felt a lot more realistic.

I don't think it need that much time, though. If they used the 15-20 episodes properly they could pull it off and not essentially waste a large amount of episodes and something that was going to end up being released.

So, Ash gives his (so far) only(?) "pseudo" legendary away.

...

Meh.

The Goomy line wasn't one of my favorite evolutionary lines, anyway, so this is no skin off my back.

This was a pretty decent episode. However, I feel like Ash left behind his Goodra far too early so it didn't really warrant a heartfelt moment as it did. If this episode came much later, then it would've been fine.

What I don't like is that some people are upset about this Pokemon leaving because it's strong, a Dragon-type, etc. But what they forget is that it really doesn't matter what it is since the writers can just throw out another Tobias or a trainer that's actually competent to stop him.

Except Goodra has never been seen losing a single battle during its whole time. It's gone with a complete winning streak.

2 battles maketh a powerhouse not. Still it is a pretty tanky mon in the same mold as Snorlax

Let's go to the beach, each.
It doesn't really make a difference since it can always come back to lose in the match Ash is eliminated in.

Losing is all it can ever aspire to do next? Sadly, I feel the same way. I'm glad he's gone though so that Ash can train other Pokemon that don't take up nearly as much screen-time.

But it was clear given his backstory, which we found out about quickly.

I wasn't just counting those two times.

He only had two official battles ffs. I don't see what proved his supposed superiority outside of those two mediocre wins.

It's a good episode, but not as good as last week. The Goomy evolution line isn't my favorite, either, but it's good to have it in for a bit. With Goodra gone, it doesn't hurt that much. Had Goodra stayed longer, it would be.

I knew this kind of episode would happen right from Goomy's debut. It was decent though, very sad too. I hope Goodra returns for the league I mean that Keegan guy or whatever his name was can easily send him back for a bit. It's a shame they decided to release a Pokemon like Goodra though. Unless there's a lot of filler or we finally get Team Flare (I hold my breath less and less) there's not that long to get Ash up to 6 and preferably fully evolved.

I'm ok with Team Rocket being the root of the problems again because I enjoy them and they had a bit more of a sinister side here. But I can't help but wondering what the creative decision was in excluding Team Flare from all their major plot points they have in the games.

I finally am caught up... I've been so far behind, since like October.. and finally did so with saturdays's episode last night. I really liked Goomy and it's evolutions and was sad to see it go... it;s been awhile since ash released a pokemon..

and it makes me sad to see people STILL get mad because ash releases pokemon.. what selfish trainers you are. oh well...

Team Rocket was pretty evil here.. but come on the water was special and they thought TR could make a buck off of it.. it was just not TR ..."stealing water"

Ignoring the unnecessary feelings we do not have towards virtual creatures that can hardly emote to us, the general consensus agrees that Goodra's departure was too rushed and kept us from actually taking it seriously.

It's like how we didn't care when Ash released Primeape, the worst offender of them all, unless it was the Beedrill he caught and gave away in Johto.

I didn't mind that he left (I was overjoyed tbh), but I don't get how it's selfish to have wanted him to stick with Ash either. :x

No need to worry!
I didn't mind the release, but at the end of the day I was pretty disappointed with the route they went with Goodra. Like, it's fine for Ash to release Goodra considering the case with it and its story, but it just felt so short. I really would've preferred if it stayed as a Goomy for much longer since Goomy is super cute and all, rather than just staying as Goomy for just 6 episodes and becoming a Goodra almost instantly, then releasing it almost instantly. It just felt way too quick for me and I really would've enjoyed more Goomy, then maybe it evolving later and releasing it. Once again, releasing something is never bad to me but I just don't like how quickly it came and went. I would've preferred at the end of the day if it was a Goomy for a much longer time, and evolved at a much slower pace.

Then again, at the same time when I realized it was gonna evolve all the way and quickly that really worried me, since Goodra is a pseudo-legendary and for someone like Ash to have one seems too powerful. Like, I don't mind Ash having strong Pokemon but something like Goodra would just seem too powerful. From looking at all of the other past pseudos from Dragonite to Hydreigon in the anime and their exhibition of power, it's clear these things are indeed far from being considered generic Pokemon and are reserved only for the most elite of Trainers. At the end of the day, I guess I'm a bit less worried about Ash overpowering others since Goodra won't be around for the time being. At the same time, I'm mostly impartial as to whether it returns for the league or stays out of Ash's possession, since I guess Goodra is still something whose power level is one the likes of things like Darkrai and Latios and that's kind of cheap.

But man, to actually be overjoyed to see Goodra released...you must really have a grudge against Goodra or something lol.

Well at least we're not in that shitfest of damn..., Goodra leaving oh no" of butthurt people on both sides making salty remarks anymore so at least the cancerous part of this is gone.

As touchy-feely as the 2-part episode felt, I was ultimately disappointed with the writers in how they dealt with Goomy -> Goodra. Like others said, Goomy evolved to its forms up to Goodra a bit too quickly, and they threw him out of the story almost just as quickly. Also, giving Ash a Goodra for essentially 5 episodes felt like a smokescreen - some of us initially were pleasantly surprised (and pleased) at Ash finally owning a pseudo-legendary Pokémon (fully evolved) and yet it didn't last even past 5 episodes.

I still liked the 2-part episode on paper. But looking back, the impact that it would have IF Goomy/Sligoo/Goodra had stuck with Ash longer may be even more than what the conclusion of this episode had. And that's very disappointing.
