Discounts? No. Players would just keep on setting the clock back to their birthday to get the discounts whenever they want.
If there's anything (besides decor) they'd do on your birthday, it'd be a special, one-time gift, such as a rare Pokémon or item. It could only happen the first time your birthday rolls around to avoid exploitation.

I guess, I don't like it. Probably because of what MetalMario and mewfanforlife said, that will just make no sense.
I think it's a great idea and something like it could happen too. It would be like you name...you can't change it. It is something you enter when you first start. It can't be changed and you olny get discounts on that day. And so you can tell when it is if you have a cell phone/pokenav whatever, your mom will call and say happy birthday! and tell you to come home. Then you think "better hit the PokeMart too". Do you own a DS? It has an internal clock (and birthday setting, but that's beside the point). I seriously doubt D/P would also contain their own clock. In fact, the return of day/night suggests that D/P will be using the DS's clock, since it's common belief that they were dropped because they couldn't be changed. who would just plain out change the dates day after day for discounts well what if it already saves into the game on the first dates you put so if you changed it it didn't matter

I think the present/decor would be cool, but only with a fail safe. I'd also like to see holidays, even if they are japaness or made up...

I don't think this feature is feasible, unless the gifts are REALLY good. This game is gonna last about three years, so it wouldn't be worth it. Sure, there will be people who will play it for longer, but the majority of players are likely to move on to the next generation.

Well, you can't change your name, right? It could set your clock from the DS one only at the beginning of the game, after that it follows internal battery.
