(I somehow decided a pirate reference would work here for the title.)
I have made a discovery today that could mean tragedy for my game if it's what I fear it to be. I fear data corruption in my game, despite only using what I believe to be legitimate play (no codes whatsoever were used for it). While checking to see if my pokerus has been spreading, I encountered a strange black dot only one pixel wide in the profiles of some of my pokemon. This blackened pixel exists between the pokeball and the level. Unfortunately, while a significant portion do have something that ties them together, I have nothing that I can really tie all of them together with. It has affected 10 of my pokemon, and here they are.
Pikachu, Lv9
This was hatched within my main, home game (Emerald) and has very likely just been used for breeding purposes (my memory is not great). The only tie I could possibly make to this is that it might've been around the others that had it.
Tyranitar, Lv74
This was caught in Pokemon Colosseum. Since capturing it, I have essentially been using it as a bodyguard in my travels just in case something seriously big comes at me. This means it has been with me for a long time. This is the only pokemon that was not caught within Emerald.
Magneton, lv 48
Caught within my home game. I was attempting to make a team all reach level 50, and this was one of those before I abandoned the idea for something else. It would not surprise me if that training involved my Tyranitar bodyguard.
Gyarados (Soramaro), Lv50
Basically the same thing as Magneton. Caught in the home game, trained for level 50.
Skarmory, Lv50
It should be obvious now what the main tie is I can think of. Caught at home, trained for 50.
Sableye, Lv.50
Same old song. Caught at home, trained for 50.
Wailord, Lv.40
This was NOT an idea for the 50 team. All I actually did was train it until it evolved so I could go after the Regis. As usual, this was caught at home.
Flygon, Lv.45
Honestly, I don't know what the story is with this one. Maybe it's one I was just training so it would evolve. As usual, caught at home.
Linoone (Rags), Lv.50
I named her Rags because she may as well have been torn to rags. All of her moves are HMs and she's basically my utility pokemon. Picking stuff up for me, allowing me to navigate where I need to, she's probably the one I've used most. She was also among my level 50 team. I used it throughout my game's main storyline.
Relicanth, Lv.33
This one has had basically no alterations. Maybe it fought stuff, but if it did, it certainly wasn't enough to get it to level up. This was caught at home and eventually was used to let me in to the Regis.
Although I have no ideas as to where this all started (I have many other pokemon from Colosseum that do not have the black spot), I have a good idea as to how it would've spread. It appears the big thing was my level 50 team, 5 members of which are among the dotted (the 6th, Metagross, is unaffected). It is very likely that I have used Tyranitar as a safe means of fighting enemy pokemon for training. Likewise, Tyranitar could easily have been used as the bodyguard for Wailord as a Wailmer, and by that same token could've protected Flygon as it moved up from Trapinch. Pikachu was probably just an innocent who happened to be around these guys when it was hatched.
This theory does have its holes (such as many other related pokemon not being affected), but it's the best I've got. I sincerely hope someone can provide an answer for this. I will not be playing my Emerald or exposing it to anything further until I find out what's going on. Once again, I have 10 pokemon with relatively unknown ties that have a mysterious black spot between the pokeball and the level.
