San Francisco, CA, March 15, 2006 – VIZ Media, LLC (VIZ Media), one of the entertainment industry's most innovative and comprehensive publishing, animation and licensing companies, announced today that it has secured from worldwide licensors, TV TOKYO Corporation and Shueisha Inc., the television, home video and merchandising rights to SHONEN JUMP’S BLEACH in the Americas, Europe and Oceania. The appointment of VIZ Media as Master Licensor was facilitated by TV TOKYO Medianet, the licensing arm of TV TOKYO.

Well this isnt really a recent thing, Viz pretty much always had 'ownership' over bleach.

I have been to. It seems odd to me, and others that I have talked to, that no one has sewn up the license for this series yet. Is there
some reason for this? Are you sick of licensing question yet?

Here's the thing: the anime industry doesn't really operate exactly as it used to in the early '00s. Bleach is a Viz title (and a major cash cow for them). It doesn't have to be "licensed"; it's owned by Viz's parent company, Shueisha. They don't have to "license" titles. If you see it in Shonen Jump, odds are (unless they decide to license it out to another American company, which does happen from time to time and has happened in the past) Viz will eventually be releasing it on TV and DVD. Now, to be fair, this is a relatively recent phenomenon; Viz is now focusing on developing franchises based on Shonen Jump properties, and obviously, licensing out what's sure to be a smash hit anime would be kind of a mistake.

It would be a fair assumption on your part that Viz currently owns Bleach. There's a small chance that they'll license the title out to someone else, but given their current marketing strategy, I highly doubt that will happen.

Awesome! I'm currently around episode 39 in the Japanese Anime, so it'll be interesting to see a dub version. I hope this means the DS game will be released in America, that thing looked great, but I can't afford to import it.

Expect less blood, and also expect Shinigami's to be known as Soul Reapers because that's how Viz had them named in the Manga. But also, the previous "horse's mouth" rumor stated a Toonami airing.

Not necessarily. After all, in the Naruto manga, Sekushii no Jutsu is known as "Ninja Centerfold Technique," while in the anime it's known as "Sexy no Jutsu." And Viz handled both of them.

So the term "Shinigami" may stay intact.

Alot of people (like myself) take their OWN DAMN TIME, downloading the friggin Japanese with the English Subs and now these n00bs are going to start watching it on Adult Swim. It sucks. Especially for the people who watch the subs. I think you will soon no longer have the right to download the subs.

So, dont be to happy about it.

And screw them if they called them Soul Reapers and not Death Gods and Shinigamis.

And if they take out most of the blood, then IM NOT WATCHING IT. Im sticking to the subs. Its much better.

Agreed. 100% agreed. This is nothing to be getting Excited about. Viz Media might screw up our precious Bleach. The Voice cast for Bleach are very unique, and each Voice fits the charater perfectly. Now, the dub voices might be horrible. I bet they won't get Urahara's voice even close.

Just like how Dragon Ball and YuYu Hakusho are licensed by FUNimation, Yu-Gi-Oh, Shaman King and One Piece are licensed by 4Kids, ammirite? 8D Shueisha's the Japanese companese company that owns marketing rights. Someone missed the ADULT SWIM part. Souls, ghosts, who cares? Death won't be evaded either way. Cursing? Uh, the most he gets away with is dammit and bastard. I don't know where you get the idea he's a major potty mouth.

According to ANN, it not confirm whether its for the US release or the European release. The editor in cheif of ANN said that the announce confirmed which is C21 usually not focused on the North American market. So they are waiting and going to ask Viz if it perminetly true. Eh I was planning to that anyways. Buy the dvds imported but now It's in english. =D So I can buy them here. Watch out. A wave a moaners will show up about Bleach being dubbed. It's not a bad thing though. I enjoy dubs esspecially one that air on adult swim. Vis did an awsome job with naruto with most of the voices, I think they will fair well with bleach since adult swim is more leaniant then toonami. Please people don't complain until you've seen a dub.

I think it's good. I've always wanted to see this anime and watching dubbed is my only means of it. Even though VIZ has it, I'd like for it to at least have as much kept blood as Naruto and if not, hopefully keep it the same because I know it has as much blood as Samurai Champloo, right?
