Yeah, getting back into these awesome games and I'm gonna make my friends like them too. I need to get awesome nicknames for all these too, help would be appreciated. Will be battling competitively, with no tradebacks, let's see if it's viable:

Venusaur

Sleep Powder
Razor Leaf
Toxic
Leech Seed

Simple enough. Leads and gets in the early sleep. Razor Leaf almost always crit hits doing huge damage. Toxic and Leech Seed are glitched ingame iirc, so that the amount of HP Leech Seed saps increases at the same rate as Toxic.

Lapras

Surf
Ice Beam
Confuse Ray
Rest

Meh, sticks around for a long while and annoyers don't fail so drastically in RBY. Cool Pokemon, this is all basically favourites.

Sandslash

Swords Dance
Earthquake
Rock Slide
Substitute

Again, pretty obvious. Attempt at sweeping and this thing is awesome. I'm not sure about the 4th move though, I hear Sub isn't that good in RBY though I forget why.

Alakazam

Psychic
Thunder Wave
Reflect
Recover

Your standard amazing sweeper who will likely destroy my nooby friends on his own. Reflect boosts his Defence up to almost parallel his incredible Special, Recover keeps it alive and Psychic is scary of this thing. Hard to take down, but even harder to stop it from taking you down.

Dodrio

Drill Peck
Body Slam
Hyper Beam
Double Team

I dunno. A bit more physical presence. Hyper Beam finishes off weak things with his great Speed as it doesn't recharge if you faint them in RBY or so I hear. Double Team is filler, I see nothing better for it when I already have Reflect.

Jolteon ** Blitzkrieg

Thunderbolt
Thunder Wave
Double Kick
Pin Missile

Fitting name, no? If you didn't know, Blitzkrieg is German for lightning war, and this thing is ridiculously fast. Comes in and puts wholes in things. No Growth for me here, so I just stuck Double Kick which could help vs Golem/Rhydon, but only if they had low health. Pin Missile is good at hurting those pesky Psychics when they're weakened, this comes in and out and cleans the mess I leave away.

Let's see what I can do here...

>Venusaur: The only real change I would make here would be to replace Toxic with Stun Spore. That way, you will still have a status effect to inflict even with the Sleep Clause applied... that, and Toxic in RBY is really not at all viable, as the opponent can merely switch. I know that Toxic and Leech Seed use the same variable to count, but even so, it is just not worth the move slot.

>Lapras: I am unsure as to what the standard RBY Lapras is, but I do like this moveset. I would not change a thing.

>Sandslash: Not a bad moveset by any means. Again, I wouldn't change a thing. However, only in link battles is Substitute glitched, as it does not block status. However, this was fixed in Stadium, so only use Substitute if you will be playing on that.

>Alakazam: The standard, I believe? Keep it as it is, once again.

>Dodrio: A fitting Exeggutor counter, but I am concerned about Dodrio's overall fragility. Is this for Stadium or link battles? If the former, then you will want to replace Hyper Beam with something else, as the rule of recharging is in full force in Stadium. Still, you seem to lack a Special Wall in this team, so I would suggest replacing Dodrio with a Chansey. Perhaps Seismic Toss/Softboiled/Ice Beam/Thunder Wave?

>Jolteon: Another standard, I believe, and one of my own favorites in RBY. Keep it just as it is.

All I can say is that your team seems solid.

This is for link battles, so Hyper Beam is fine and Substitute apparently isn't. What should I put over it on Slash?

As for Saur, I'm unsure. I know Toxifying goes away when they switch, but it is still going to hurt regardless and with two Pokemon with T Wave already Stun Spore seems eh. Anything else you can think of over it?

My opponents won't be awesome, so I'll just stick to favourites and not bother with Bliss. Thanks for the help so far, I had no idea half these were the standard, I just made them all up according to what I knew about RBY.

Pokémon Wizard
Venusaur
Sleep Powder/Body Slam
Razor Leaf
Toxic/Body Slam
Leech Seed

Having both Sleep Powder and Toxic on the some Pokémon is a waist since you can’t use both attacks simultaneously. And Felix, Venusaur does not, I repeat, does not learn Stun Spore, however, it does learn Poison Powder which is inferior to Toxic. My suggestion would be replacing either Toxic or Sleep Powder with Body Slam so you can also damage those Pokémon whom are unaffected by Toxic and or Leech Seed – like most Grass and Posion-types are.

Lapras
Surf
Ice Beam
Confuse Ray/T-Bolt
Rest

This moveset will certainly do; nothing has to be changed although T-Bolt can be used over Confuse Ray, but that’s for you to decide.

Sandslash
Swords Dance
Earthquake
Rock Slide
Substitute

True, Substitute isn’t that great as it will become, but it’s still good enough. Nothing has to be changed here.

Alakazam
Psychic
Thunder Wave
Reflect
Recover

Since you don’t want to give it the Elemental Punches, this moveset is indeed the best you can get. Luckily there are no Steel and Dark-types to rob the Psychic-type of its omnipotence in the First Generation, though.

Dodrio
Drill Peck
Body Slam
Hyper Beam
Double Team/Agility

I don’t like birds, despite the number of heads they have, but it’s your choice. Hyper Beam does indeed not require a turn to recharge when used in RBY. Drill Peck and Body Slam ore both good STAB-moves but I have doubts about Double Team since no one heightens evasion during multi-player. Of course, given the fact that most birds have a limited movepool to work with – this is the reason why I don’t like them – you don’t have much of a choice unless you want to stele with another, expensive, Substitute or retrain to get Agility.

Jolteon
Thunderbolt
Thunder Wave
Double Kick/Agility
Pin Missile/Substitute

First of all, I highly recommend against the use of names from the Second World War since it is not exactly what one could call ‘the best page from human history’. Anyway, both T-bolt and T-wave are good, but the other two moves make be doubt since Jolteon is not known for its extraordinary high attack despite the fact that the last of its moves help him overcome some of his weaknesses. Unless you want to retrain and get Agility in combination with Substitute, if only Hidden Power existed, this is the best you can do.

Now, for the nicknames.

Venusaur: Mine is always called Leaf, I know, not the most original of names.
Lapras: Nessie or possibly Niseag (Scottish Galic), the monster that is said to inhabit the Loch Ness. Some people claim it is a Plesiosaur, or a mutated for due to inbreed, and since Lapras somehow resembles this extinct creature, the connection was easily made.
Alakazam: Houdin. No, not Houdini, the escape specialist has nothing to do with the supernatural, but the surname of the French magician Jean Eugène Robert-Houdin. Of course, when using this name, most people, mostly the uneducated, whill laught, claiming you misspelled the name ‘Houdini’. I suggest ‘laugh about their ignorence’.
Sandslash: Can’t think of anything here at the moment. If I do find one, I’ll let you know.
Dodrio: Cerberus, the guardian dog of the underworld, Greek Mythology, it too had three heads.
Jolteon: Mjöllnir, named after the hammer owned by the god Thor, or use simply the owner himself. It’s your choice.

Your time has come..
preety good team though I have a comment
Leech Seed's sap counter is run by
the same variable as Toxic's, and as Toxic makes it go up, Leech Seed gets to
join the fun as well.

But in reality, Toxic is one of the WORST moves you can use in a game, and
Leech Seed is at best another PP bank that force-switches (a losing
proposition).

What does Toxic do? It starts out taking 6.25% health, then increases
drainage by 6.25% each turn. When that's up, Leech Seed will take as much,
but will move the drained HP to the other side of the board.

As long as the opponent's Pokemon stays active.

And since this is RBY, there's no way to ensure that except by killing all 5
of its teammates, which (if your opponent knows this) won't come about from
Leech Seed-Toxic.

You use Toxic...they get poisoned, and switch.

Now the fun part: After they switch, the game no longer acknowledges that
Poison as being a result of Toxic. Which means that even if the opponent
brings the poisoned Pokemon back out, to let it get Seeded, the poison counter
will no longer rise. They'll lose an insignificant 12.5% a turn, plus
whatever pitifully weak attack your Grass-type uses, meaning you usually need
to survive for 4-7 turns in order to kill (barring Recover or Rest, and Rest
has the somewhat-questionable effect of wiping out poison). All you get is an
even more insignificant 6.25% health back each time. So your health meter
plus 25-44% will need to last 7 turns...as long as the opponent can deal 20% a
turn for 7 turns, or 32% for 4, that's a losing proposition.

And when the opponent is poisoned, they're immune to the much more dangerous
ailments of Sleep, Paralyze, and Freeze. Some bad.

Verdict on Toxic/Leech Seed? Save it for fun matches, or 1-on-1s where there
is no fear of switching.
