Box Toppers

I've gotten quite a few of them, because I've been collecting them. And by the way, I'm talking about regular sized Pokemon cards here, not Jumbo ones (if anyone was confused).

I have:

Azuamarill

Charmander

Charmeleon

And a few more, I think......


So, I've been wondering, since these cards are like: 168 out of 167 (for example)

Does this mean they are basically like Promo Cards?

And also, do they have about the same value/rarity as Promo Cards do?

They're not promo cards. They're Secret Rare (hard to find). I have those (Charmander & Charizard from Ex Dragon, Dark Raichu from Team Rocket, Here Comes Team Rocket! from Ex Team Rocket, and Rocket's Dark Raikou Ex from Ex Deoxys).

But...They're very cheap at around the price of from $5 to $10.

But they sound really rare.

When you open a box of pokemon cards, on the top there is a Holo card called a boxtopper.

And few Secret rare like Dark Raichu or Here Comes Team Rocket! can be found in booster packs.

Well, the guy who ran the Pokemon League (the one that I went to) said that you have to buy a whole box to get the "box toppers".

However, he gave me one of those cards each time I came.


Heh, the guy who ran that league is awesome!! XD

Unfortunately, we never had enough people to play the Pokemon TCG, so I think the league there is disbanded now.

He still has Yugioh meetings every Sunday, but I don't like Yugioh......

To get a boxtopper, you have to purchase an entire box(36packs)...or go on Ebay and buy the card.

That's the only way to get them.

I don't consider the cards very rare(mainly they go for $3-$5 at auction) since they come standard with any box. So, when you buy a box, you generally get 13 holos instead of 12.

Let's see...there was Groudon, Mew, Persian EX, Rocket's Raikou EX, Azumaril, Charmander...that's all I can think of off the top of my head.

I got the Groudon bow topper by just buying ten booster packs of i forgot which series at my local card shop

Celebi EX was not a boxtopper with Unseen Forces. Rocket's Persian EX is the boxtopper for UF.

I received my Celebi EX in one of the packs inside the box I purchased.


Oh, and I forgot to mention that Absol was also a boxtopper as well.

And considering how many boxes the massive card sellers have to go through, you can easily find boxtoppers for about $2 each online.
