Bulbasaur is not the easiest and Charmander is not the most difficult in Pokemon Red and Blue.

I don't totally agree with the OP's argument because Bulbasaur is still super useful in the first 2 gyms and against Giovanni at the end.

And yeah you're supposed to have other Pokemon to fight the remaining 5 gyms because hardly anyone would use just their Starter for the entire game any ways.
