Beautifly, it's more... beautiful, is less creepy and looks more like an actual butterfly.

I think Butterfree looks boring, and Beautifly's wings are actually pretty, like butterflywings should.

BUTTERFREE, BECAUSE THE ORIGNAL IS ALWAYS BEST! BEAUTIFLY IS A HORRID EVIL CLONE DESPITE THE FACT THAT THE ONLY SIMILARITY IS HAS WITH BUTTERFREE IS THAT IT'S BASED ON A BUTTERFLY OF SOME SORT! TYPE IN CAPITALS! END ALL POVERTY!

...Beautifly, because it doesn't look like a bald Venonat with wings, has a better pattern/coloration on the previously mentioned flight-granting appendages and it actually has an honest-to-goodness proboscis instead of some sort of rotund nose with fangs.
Though if I may say so, Caterpie and Metapod are both far cooler than Beautifly's prevolutions. Even if Wurmple has a butt for a mouth~
