Who knows if Butterfree is going to return to Ash?

Jeez, it better. Clearly the writers remember it and the other releases/give-aways... why can't they just stumble upon Ash like Lapras did?
And if it did, maybe it would finally shut up people who thought it died. Or start "ZOMG T3H wr1t3rs r st00P!d BUT3rfreeee is ded!!!!!11".

*sigh* Where to begin?
1) ALL of Satoshi's previously owned Pokémon (with the exception of Ratta and Spear) appeared in the opening, as well as the mother of Yogirasu and Butterfree's mate. THEY'RE NOT RETURNING. They're just there for show.
2) The ones that MIGHT return are Lizardon, Zenigame and all the Pokémon over at Orchid's laboratory. Butterfree, Yogirasu, Okorizaru, Pidgeot and Lapras may not return at all.
3) "the other releases/give-aways" I'm tired of that statment. Satoshi's only released Butterfree and Lapras. Lizardon and Okorizaru are training. Pidgeot is protecting Popo and Pidgeon until they can defend themselves. Zenigame is with the Zenigame Gang. The ONLY Pokémon he ever gave away was Spear. He gave the Monster Ball and complete ownership to Nanako. Yogirasu was never really caught by Satoshi nor really given ownership to him, but rather cared for as a substitute parent.
4) I'm tired of all these threads. People need to learn that the openings with a bunch of Pokémon thrown in don't always mean the Pokémon will belong to anyone. "Battle Frontier" has come and gone and NO ONE has gotten Manyula. Therefor, the logic that the Pokémon that appear in the opening will automatically be claimed by anyone are faulty and not fullproof evidence.
