butterfree strategy...

I was looking at some of the underused pokemon in my strategy book and I noticed that butterfree had the ability compoundeyes and that it can learn skill swap... so could this double battle strategy work...

so if I were to skill swap with butterfree then would it make lapras a never missing sweeping machine?

I don't think so, not exactly. Compound eyes just raises accuracy somewhat, so the moves could still miss.

I think CompoundEyes prevents accuracy loss. There is no Ability that make moves never miss. Get a MindReader/SheerCold Articuno.

Keen Eye prevents accuracy loss.

Compound Eyes raises your accuracy by 30% so moves that have an accuracy of 70% or more would, in theory, have an accuracy of 100%.

...Meaning that Sheer Cold!Lapras would still have a poor accuaracy sheer cold with that strategy. (But 1-Hit-Ko's are stupid anyways. >_>; And so are the other moves that Lapras have, since it isn't meant to sweep like that)

Never give any Pokémon an 1-hit-KO move unless it has Lock-On or Mind Reader. Besides, it's a gambling tactic that's quite useless. In any case, Lapras has no way of securing a hit with finishing moves, so delete it and add Rain Dance.

Well you don't mind if I give my own foolish suggestions. </sarcasm>
I think with a Special Attack with 80, you can use Special Attacks moderately well. It can learn Psychic, Giga Drain, or Solarbeam, so you can give it one of those moves and then will its moveset with other moves that do not incure damage.

That's an interesting idea with butterfree and lapras, but sheer cold is still very risky at 60. Blizzard and hydro would be 100% accurate, so it's an interesting strategy to turn lapras into a sweeper like that... only useful if your planning to have a butterfree and a lapras anyway.

Otherwise, for butterfree, I would say: he does have good special attack, and a wide movepool, so you can set it up with a variety of special moves. However, I personally would make use of butterfries ability and the multitude of status moves it can learn - for example, toxic and/or sleep powder (which is now effectively just spore) and whirlwhind to mess around with their whole party - unless they have a heal bell or whatever. But still, with it's compound eyes, vast movepool and negligeable stats, I would say that is butterfree's best use. So... good job including spore aka sleep powder in its moveset.

yes it all seems nice on paper and I though about using something similar but lets face it. Weather/Rain Slaking just about anything sets up on you and worst Buterfree's base 70 speed won't be outspeeding much especially when everything faster has max speed also but your biggest weakness is definetatly Aero's rockslide =/

-Skill Swap

Butterfree
-Slp powder
-Para powder
-Protect
-Mimic/Attract/Gigadrain/Swap

Starmie has the speed and Spattack to swap first
then make use of it the next turn while Butterfree helps the setup
by disabling foes with teh powder or even attact! Mimic is to steal
the goods from starmie and be able to use them too..

I wouldn't really agree with this. Lapras couldn't miss with the other moves, but Sheer Cold would still only have about the accuracy of Zap Cannon, and wouldn't be useful. OHKO moves are only good on stuff like Articuno with Mind Reader and Sheer Cold.

but OHKO moves are not good, because articuno for example has no way of preventing the opponent from switching after using mind reader [as far as i'm aware, mind reader doesn't make the next move 100% accurate, but guarantees a hit on the targeted pokemon] so then sheer cold will most likely miss anyway.
