Cairn and the Water Dragon

He had been walking for hours; the thick, murky mud beneath his feet started to harden. Though wearing warrior’s boots, he could still feel the cold, squishy feeling of the mud; but he gave it no thought as he had only one thing on his mind. He had walked past thousands of severed bodies of men; warriors, monks, and even a king. Though seeing all that there was in this demonic cave, he did not break his concentration on the mission he was here to complete.

He is a knight; a powerful knight named Cairn Russell. He joined the Radiata Knights at a very young age, and has since then become a powerful ally for the kingdom of Radiata.
He fought alongside another warrior who went by the name of Sir Gawain; a man with honor and dignity. He and Cairn fought side by side in many battles and both became real good friends. Later on Cairn settled down with a woman and she begot two children, Adele and Jack. Today however, is different; for The Legendary Dragons, mentioned in the ancient history books of Radiata, have awakened once again. They have come to once again destroy humanity. Currently the Water Dragon was hiding in a cave south of Radiata Castle, controlling hurricanes to strike the kingdom. Cairn could not stand by and watch the dragons destroy humans as they would eventually kill his family, including his two-month-old Jack. So Cairn set out with his legendary sword, the Arbitrator, and the finest armor in all of Radiata. He left to complete his sworn mission, to kill the Water Dragon.

Deep in the cave of Borgandiazo, he still had his thoughts on his family. “I will not fail, I promised my wife I would save humanity from the wicked powers of these dragons.” He said as his voice trailed off into the depths of the cave, echoing back to him. He suddenly stopped at the sound of a faint roar, coming from the holes and small tunnels in the ground. He swiftly reached for the handle of his sword, sticking out the end of the sheath. Still the roar continued sounding ever so ferocious as it wailed through the cave’s walls and small openings. Finally, the wailing ceased and Cairn steadily took his hand off of his sword’s handle. Just as he began walking again, he fell through a hole hidden underneath the mud. He plummeted down the shaft about twenty feet before landing on the ground. The floor in this room was as hard as a rock. Cairn had injured his knee from the fall, but that did not stop his determination. He sprang to his feet only to see that huge water serpents surrounded him. “Vile beasts, I’ll deal with you quickly and without mercy!” he shouted as he grabbed his sword’s handle and swiftly whipped it out. His sword, the Arbitrator, was huge; about four feet long and one foot wide. It glowed with a magnificent aura; and the jewel, located in the center of the handle, shined brightly.
Cairn leaped into the air and dove toward two of the serpents. “Cross Slash!” He yelled as he horizontally slashed his sword at them, cutting their very heads from their necks. The other three serpents showed no fear of him and hissed wickedly as they slowly approached him. Cairn stabbed his sword into the rocky ground and just stood there patiently. The serpents gazed at him for a second, then rushed to strike his legs. Cairn gripped the handle tightly, then whipped the sword out of the ground, tilting it forward. The edge of the blade cut through the air swiftly and made a gusty wind sound. The three serpents that had been rushing in to strike him had suddenly just fallen apart into little strings of paper. Standing there, Cairn proudly closed his eyes as he stuck his sword back into its sheath. “I am getting close, the monsters are becoming more in number so I must be more alert.” He thought to himself as he looked up and began to think deeply. “Gawain, if only you were here to fighting by my side.. but no, you couldn’t betray the Elves, Dwarves, and other fairy creatures; for they are on the side of the dragons. I too, think the war against the fairy creatures is wrong, but they would destroy all of humanity. I cannot allow them to kill my family, that is why I fight, I fight to protect another.”

After his long thoughts had stopped he once again began walking through the cave; now having to adjust to the new rocky terrain. His attention was now focused on the sound behind the walls of the cave; when continuous bellows began to irritate Cairn. Pulling out his sword, he then diced the walls into crumbled dust piles. Behind the walls was an enormous amount of water that quickly began to fill the room he was in. He didn’t hesitate for even a second; he leaped into the air and shouted. “Sky Splitter!” His sword shined a bright yellow as he dove toward the ground and stabbed his sword into it. The ground began cracking around the area where he stabbed, and then the cracks all formed into a huge hole. Cairn jumped toward the ceiling and grabbed a vine and held tight. Hanging in the air, he gave a faint sigh of relief as he watched all the rushing water sink into the hole like a drain. “That was cutting it a little too close I think.” He said sarcastically. After falling to the ground he walked into the tunnel where the water had come from. As he walked further the tunnel became smaller and smaller. He stopped at the sound of a loud roar coming from up ahead. Just after the roar had silenced, he saw more water headed his way. “So the water is coming from the main source I see.” He said as he drew his sword out yet again. With no where to run, Cairn thrust it into the ground and anchored it securely. He then firmly gripped tight with both hands on the sword’s handle. The rushing water hit him with a steady blow and flowed around his body. He felt his body being forced back by the water, but he didn’t let go of his sword. Finally, the water subsided; he stood up and put his sword in its sheath. He then began running as fast as the wind toward the light at the end of the tunnel. As he emerged from the tunnel, he fell down forty feet to the floor below. He regained his stance and landed on both feet, but found that he was now standing in shallow water, about one foot high. He looked around and saw the he was in a gigantic room filled with water. Gazing across to the other side of the room he saw a silhouette of something. Cairn stood there awhile, wondering, until he spoke. “Ah ha, I found you, Water Dragon!” He shouted toward the distant object. The creature was about thirty feet tall and had two heads; each one unique from the other. The scales of it were a shiny blue, but had some green glimmer to them. Its tail was long and made of water that could be moved with ease. Its teeth looked to be as sharp as diamonds. The Water Dragon gazed wickedly at Cairn, then spoke. “You are a warrior who wishes to slay me are you not? Well whatever, you may try but I will protect the sacred order of the world and destroy you humans, starting with you.”
“So you can speak that of a human.” Cairn said sarcastically. “I am here to end your life dragon!”
“No one can slay the mighty Kelvin, water dragon of the holy rivers and lakes of the world! If you dare face me, then draw your sword warrior!” Kelvin said as it roared ferociously. Cairn slowly grabbed Arbitrator’s handle and drew it out of its sheath. “I will slay you and save humanity from your wrath!” He shouted as he sprinted toward Kelvin. He leaped into the air and slashed in the direction of Kelvin’s left head. Kelvin sucked in air, then blew Cairn back to the ground. Cairn landed on his back, but quickly regained his stance. He then swiftly ran back toward Kelvin and slashed at his tail, but his sword went right through its watery tail like a ghost. Kelvin then whipped its head and struck Cairn, sending him cascading into a wall. Cairn stood up slowly and began to breathe deeply. “Fool you cannot stand before my power!” Both of its heads said wickedly. “Now human prepare to die! Ice missles!” Suddenly magical ice spikes appeared around Kelvin. The spikes then swiftly flew toward Cairn with great velocity.
Cairn stood there breathing heavily, gripping his sword tightly. The jewel that adorned the Arbitrator began to glow brightly. Cairn slashed his sword quickly and cut through the air with a loud sonic boom. Suddenly the ice spikes just shattered into tiny fragments. “So you do have some fight left in you.” Said `Kelvin sarcastically. “Well then try this on for size, Rip Tide!” A huge wall of water arose and cascaded through the cave room. Cairn braced himself as the wave hit him and forcefully pushed on him with a heavy power. Cairn whipped the Arbitrator through the air again and cut a hole in the water wall, causing it to subside. Cairn’s eyes began glowing red, he looked angry. “Oh no.” he said as he stood still and held his head tight. “Fool, you have become infected with the algandars disease. The disease will surely take your life in a matter of days. You have no reason to fight me anymore.” Said Kelvin as he roared in a laughing tone. Cairn regained his awareness and drew his sword once again pointing it toward Kelvin. “I will not stop till you are slain!” he shouted. “Tell me warrior, you have become infected with a sheer deadly disease. You will die in a few days, you have nothing to gain from a victory of killing me so…tell me why do you fight?” It asked curiously. The Arbitrator’s jewel began glowing as bright as the sun itself. Suddenly Cairn himself was glowing bright. “I.. I fight to protect another!” he shouted as he lifted his sword into the air. “Limit Break!” he shouted as he maliciously ran toward Kelvin. He slashed his tail and cut it off, then he slashed its lower body and left a huge gash. Cairn then leaped into the air, and the Arbitrator set on fire. “Hydro Pump!” Yelled the dragon as it spit tons of water like a fire hose, towards Cairn, who was in mid-air. It hit him, but Cairn kept plummeting towards Kelvin, cutting through the water with his sword. The water flying off of Cairn flew everywhere, causing it to rain in the room. The water dragon then had both heads blast water at him; still Cairn plummeted towards Kelvin, cutting through the gallons of water. At the end of the water blast, he came within inches of Kelvin’s right head. He slashed it and cut it off clean. The head then fell to the ground and impacted hard, leaving a small crater. Cairn landed on the ground, then threw his sword at the left head and it went right through it. The Water Dragon gagged for a second, then exploded in a fiery light and disintegrated. Cairn stood there in silence for a few minutes, then put the Arbitrator back in its sheath. “It is done. I surely will die from this cursed disease but at least humanity and better, my family is safe. I fight because…I fight to protect the ones I love. Jack may you become as good as I am today…someday…
His voice trailed off as he began his journey back. Though the disease would overcome him before he would return home…

The End.

So how was it? I wrote this in 45 minutes. It was one of my assignments for school but hey just thought I'd post it.

Beautiful Tragedy
Reviewing as requested!

So, the plot is nice.. Though I don't know much of anything about that game. The description needs some work.. Like on certain sword moves you made Cairn use. I couldn't picture them at all pretty much. 0o;

The length is good too, but you should space the paragraphs more to make it look longer. It's hard to read the way you have it now.

So, I think that's it..

Wait! The last thing is maybe a change of words every once in a while. Like instead of:
“Hydro Pump!” Yelled the dragon as it spit tons of water like a fire hose, towards Cairn, who was in mid-air. It hit him, but Cairn kept plummeting towards Kelvin, cutting through the water with his sword. The water flying off of Cairn flew everywhere, causing it to rain in the room. The water dragon then had both heads blast water at him; still Cairn plummeted towards Kelvin, cutting through the gallons of water.
<Too many 'plummetings'.. I would find a better word to change one of the 'plummets' to.

And I saw a lot of 'sarcasticallys' and 'wickedlys', but other than that, the choice of words was great.
