can i trade straight from fr/lg to emerald... or does it have to be traded to r/s and then from them to emerald??

You can also trade with Emerald if you have both stones I think.

You can't trade from FR/LG to Emerald until:

1. You beat the E4, get the National Dex, and complete the quest for the Ruby and Sapphire in FR/LG.

2. You beat the E4 and get the National Dex in Emerald.

Also, you can't trade any non-Hoenn Pokemon from R/S to Emerald until you have the National Dex in Emerald, so your second idea won't work unless you're trading a Pokemon that can be found in Emerald.

so i can trade any pokémon in fr/lg to emerald if you've completed national pokédex in both games and (etc..) but cant trade any pokémon from r/s to emerald.. am i gettin this right?

You can trade from R/S to Emerald right away. I was just saying that you can't trade any Pokemon that CAN'T be found in Emerald, whether it's from R/S or FR/LG, until you have the National Dex.

Same works for Pokemon that can't be found in FR/LG until you have the National Dex.
