Canada - The most forgotten country (AND NO IT'S NOT USA'S TOPHAT!)

I was browsing through the "America is boring and Australia is teh winz!!!11!!" thread and I stumbled upon a comment

Do you honestly believe that American and austrailian cultures are any different

They are the most simalar nations in the world
What about Canada? We're freaking above, and we are much more similar. We practically have the same government system, our history is the same up until the war of 1812, our accents are the same, we practically have the same weather, and so on and so forth! But everyone seems to forget about Canada, and practically, the media makes me think that we're just wannabe US.

Like "did you know Jim Carry is Canadian?", thats all I hear, but he's famous in the US, why? Because to the media US > Canada.

Canada is the most forgotten about country, and all the US seems to think is that we say "eh" part of our common language and we live in igloos. We are more than that! We give the US and all the other countries maple syrup, lumber, and potatoes!

Go on, bash me for my redicolous outburst of Canada's neglegance.

canada's amazing. i mean, our milk COMES IN BAGS.
and, we gave the states a lot of beloved celebrities. the stereotypes they have about us are also jokes. no one says eh or aboot, and if i lived in an igloo i sure would be homeless right now since it's about 18 degrees Celsius here.

You know, there really isn't a fair amount of focus on Canada here in the states. It's rather a shame, seeing how we're right next to each other. You'd think Canadians and the US folk would be like best friends or siblings or something, close neighbors. I've always liked Canada, mainly because of their French heritage, but also because of their appearance as calmer and more agreeable than the US.

And I didn't even know you guys get milk in bags! That's so cool! 8D

And wonderful, fascinating, and brilliant people come from Canada. I love Canada!

I live in Ohio, right near Lake Erie. I know you guys are there. : D
I know quite a few people who came to the states from Canada, really. My AP US History Teacher loved to tell us he hailed from Canada.

Its a real shame that Canada isn't given more spotlight. D: Of course, we get all the jokes like "Your only form of police is Mounties" and "Every home has at least two Moose in the backyard" and so forth.

Seriously, Milk in a BAG? That's just about the coolest thing ever. That would save SO much fridge space. D:

Eh, ragazzo!
I've done a report on Canada in the 11th grade.

British Columbia
Alberta
Sasketawan (sp?)
Manitoba
Ontario
Quebec
Nova Scotia
Prince Edward Island
New Brunswick
Newfoundland & Labrador
Yukon
Northwest Territories
Nunavut

Showing off aside, I do think Canada is somewhat of a forgotten country. It's the second biggest nation yet its is about a seventh of the US population. Interestingly enough though, if you get all the states in the US and all the provinces in Canada, Ontario ranks fifth or sixth and Quebec ranks about thirteenth in population.

I would also concur that Canada's culture is like the US, but Canada's government is slightly more Socialistic.

And I could be wrong, but didn't we get Alex Trebek from Canada?

Oh yeah. Millk in a bag > all.
Yeah, Canada isn't in as much of a spotlight as i'd like. We have a great entertainment industry, land, natural resources, and an overall nice place to live.

I really laugh at the igloo, maple syrup, polar bear, ect. stereotypes, weather they're jokes or not. It's fun to think what other countries think of us. XD

So, yeah. Canada is pretty damn cool - Toronto is a great place to live, i'm glad i'm there. 8D

And I could be wrong, but didn't we get Alex Trebek from Canada?
Yup, we did.

EDIT -

How could I forget about Canada-kun from Hetalia? D:
Enven in the anime, he's portrayed as almost invisible. ;; BUT LOL AT THE PIC. XD

Couple gripes here.

1) Canada is a parliamentary governement. America is a republic, very different.

2) Canada's history is very different. Before 1812 it was a battle ground for control over Canada between the French and the English.

3) Our accents are very different depending on where you go. I even live right on the border in Vancouver BC and I can tell the difference in accents, even if I just drive 30 mins south. And compare the Texas Twang to a French Canadian's voice. Very different.

4) Again, we do have similar weather in some places. But, up north is cold as a witches teet and southern america is very warm.

5) I wouldnt say that the media implies we are wannabe americans. We have a very different culture. Open up a history book or something.

-Also look up the Massey Commision, please.

I don't really get what your trying to say here. First you try to prove we are similar to America, then you get frustraited because people for thinking we are similar.

Me? I'm Canadian and proud to be. Would rather live here than the states. Less people=more land to enjoy. Some breathtaking views here in BC. Also, from my experience from being in the states. I like the people here far more.

I'm from Canada, and I really don't like how forgotten it is in most of the US people's eyes. I mean, half of our Canadian news talks about Obama, Biden or something/somebody else in the US. And correct me if I'm wrong, but nobody in US talks about Canada.

And by the way, not all that many people in Canada say 'eh'. Plus, we use the mectric system, which IMO is a lot simpler and cooler.

Plus, you know what else Canadians invented that not many people know? Zippers. I mean, what would we do without zippers!?

(BTW, milk bags are just about the greatest thing known to man and fridges)

hiding in your mind
we had little milk bags at school until like 3rd grade!!
THey were awesome!
but they got discontinued :(

^ But we're not talking about little milk bags. We're talking about big, litre sized bags.

(ROFL at how this thread is slowly changing from Canada to the helpfullness of milk bags)

But seriously, Canada is home to a lot of great places and sights. I mean, take Toronto. It has the CN Tower, which is the tallest building in the world (2nd after the Burj Dubai is completed). And take Montreal. It's like a freakin mini-Europe in a single city! Definitely something you don't want to miss.

And don't even forget our really sucky hockey team, the Leafs, who haven't won the Stanley Cup for about 40 years, if I have my facts straight. Speaking of which, Canada's national sport is hockey!! (technically, it's lacrosse, but... be quiet).

We really aren't that different D:
I went there, the only thing I noticed was that people were more polite and there were donut shops caled TIM HORTONS everywhere...
xD

Wow, how could I possibly forget about Tim Hortons? I mean, that's a reason in itself to visit Canada. I swear, you will never find a great coffee and donut shop ever, on this entire planet. Don't even try, you won't succeed.

I know, Canada and US are extremely different from each other. But that's why us Canadians get annoyed sometimes: we're pretty similar to each other, but yet US get about 100x the attention we do.

Canada rocks, I've been twice and I loved it

Also, I lived in Illinois for a year and at lunch at school, instead of having cartons, we had milk bags. You just poked a hole in it with a straw and sucked the milk out of it. you had to be careful not to poke a hole in the bottom, because then you had a milk puddle
