Carbos Blues.

Okay, I'm taking a shot at EV training my first pokemon; a physical sweeping Poliwrath, which is currently a level eleven Poliwag. Currently I'm putting EVs into speed by battling Zubat in the Altering Cave, and have, as of now, defeated ten, meaning I should currently have ten speed EVs. Now, I decided that to speed the process up a little [Bad pun, sorry. >.<] I should give the little guy some carbos, which according to the main Serebii site adds an instant ten EVs to speed, and that I should be able to give him ten of them, resulting in an instant 100EV boost to my total.

Unfortunately, this appears not to be the case, as, upon trying to feed Poliwag the tenth carbos, I got the It won't have any effect. message. Now, I know that the guide is correct, and, I also know that, having only one hundred EVs [Ten from battling Zubat and ninety from the nine carbos.] I'm no where near the EV cap for this stat, [Which, according to the main site is 225.] so, my question to you, the [hopefully] experienced EV trainers, is why I can't feed my Poliwag the last carbos and where have I gone wrong?

Thank you for your time.

You can only use those sort of items when it has less than 100 EVs in the target stat, and they can't be used to get over 100 EVs in the target stat.

You should've given it the Carbos first.

Also, the EV cap for a single stat is 252, as 255 is not divisible by 4.

Ah, okay. I guess I'll just save the carbos then. Regarding the Ev cap, I'm aware that 252 is the highest number of EVs which will take effect, however, it is still possible to place up to 255 EVs into a stat, or so the main site would suggest, and so I'd define that as the cap. Not to say that I'd be doing that, as, that'd be a waste of EVs. >.> <.<;;

Thank you.
