Cartridge flash memory.

About the flash memory used to store the save files in the cartridges in the 3rd gen games, I read that they can withstand about a few thousand writes (saves) from the very first time you make a save. Does loading the save file itself also tally into this theoretical maximum save count? Its been bugging me a little, because I've tallied approx. over 1.6k loads from soft-resetting for certain shinies alone, and I'm far from done.

I don't really know, it worries me too though. I'm wondering if I should send clones of my best pokemon to a Gamecube memory card for safety measures.

Don't believe everything you read, I very much doubt that soft resetting would do anything bad to your game.

I dont know but i would say it doesnt as it isnt really saving anything because nothing further has been done on the game and nothing would need to be overwritten.

Also this would make people who SR for shinies (like yourself) games last for considerably less time before they cant save again and this doesnt really happen.

I think all you are doing by constantly soft resetting is using the internal battery not the flash memory. ;123;

The whole point of soft resetting is that it DOESN'T save.
A load doesn't write anything to the file... it just reads it which a flash memory could do about a hundred trillion times.

That's what I suspect also, but I really don't know much about it beyond that it uses some sort of flash memory with some undefined maximum amount of writes. And as I don't know the manufacturer or any specifics on it, I can't read more about it. If loading a file doesn't stress it as you say, then that's great. :)

Loading serves no stress to it whatsoever as all it reads is a series of zeroes and ones. Writing to it is almost as stressless on the memory as reading because all that is required is to send a signal surge to each save spot and change their values. I've done a lot with computer/memory and flash memory is so hard to burn out that it could take more than a single lifetime to cause any noticeable change in performance.
