When I was looking at the pokedex on the Serebii.net site, I saw something called catch rate. What exactly is catch rate?

That's not very helpful... I'm wondering this too. You don't catch Pokémon at a rate, hm?

I believe it's the rate at which these PokeMon appear.

ok fine, i'll dumb it down. Pokeballs use catch rates to determine thier success in cating a pokemon. The higher the ball's catch rate, and better the ball. if the pokemon you are trying to catch, has a higher catch rate number than the ball you are using, chances are, it will break out.

Do you know which rate a say, Ultra Ball have? Does the catch rate lower down the more you hurt the poke?

That would be useful info to have

WhiteWizard42

Master Breeder
poke ball - 1
great ball - 1.5
ultra ball - 2
net ball - 3 on a water or bug pokemon
dive ball - 3.5 on the ocean floor
repeat - 3 on a pokemon that you already have pokedex entry for
timer ball - 1 to begin with, goes up 1 every 10 turns
safari ball - 1.5
master ball - o><o (infinity)

in addition to the catch rates of the balls, there are also the catch rates for specific pokemon:

Did he say pokedex? Pokemon with catch rate? Hmmm.

If you're saying for pokeballs, then it's like WHiteWizard said. If yopu're talking for pokemons, it doesn't exist.
All I know that it is hard to catch a Mewtwo and easy to catch a Magikarp. But they have no catch rates.

Okay...so...how do we use these numbers to our advantage? I mean, is there some kind of math equasion we can go through to calculate the chances of catching a certain pokemon with a certain ball?

EDIT:Fidani, I was talking about the dex on the main Serebii site.
