Let’s Start:

Mia Lin

The boat was crowded with students heading to CAVD. A lot of the older student stood and sat away from the rails and windows, some of them playing cards and other performing magic for new students. But many of the first and second years were crowed out where they could see the surrounding sea. Mia was one of them. Her luggage and pet tarantula were down in the cargo hold. She’d been a little worried about leaving her spider, but the porters seem to know what they were doing.

Mia hung over the rail of the boat, an island was growing in the distance. Finally, she thought, I’m about to get my first glimpse of CAVD. As they drew closer to the island she leaned out further over the rail. The island was surrounded by a high reinforced fence. Mia thought this looked much more like a prison than a school. The boat didn’t slow, as the passed the island she could make out words over the huge gate; Goldenscale Magical Zoo. So this was the zoo, she’d been told there was one nearby, and that it had a dragon, perhaps that was the reason for having such a strong fence.

Mia looked forward once more; a smaller island was springing up ahead of them. As they drew closer she could see a magnificent white castle. She remembered once hearing that medieval castles were actually white back then just like you see in kid’s books because they were whitewashed, she didn’t know if it was true, but it sounded nice. To go live in a storybook castle, that was a neat idea. The castle was surrounded by a lot of low foliage and a few trees. Her grandma had told her a special red berry grew here, which was both wondrous and dangerous.

Me so on fire.
Jason hummed the theme to “Friends” as he made his way to the front of the boat, apologising often when he barged into other students. He didn’t notice the displeasure he was causing the other students, how they muttered mutinously as he managed to systematically shove them to the side with his gangling arms. In fact, he wasn’t noticing much. He was too excited at the prospect of finally reaching the school, after all this waiting. His Grandma had been overjoyed when he got the letter- his mother had perked up too. She had even managed to get out of bed! Jason smiled happily. Maybe by the time he got home for the holidays, she would be a lot better. Maybe she and Grandma would even start to bond…

Jason immediately went off into a daydream, in which his mother and grandmother were a super crime-fighting team. He leant against the rail, not acknowledging the many other first and second years all gawping at something either side of him. After a second he blinked and returned back to reality. A giant fenced-in island had loomed up in front of him.

Whoa, when did that get there? Jason thought, tipping his head to one side so he could get a better look. If this was the school, it looked nothing like the pictures that his mother had showed him. Perhaps they had to beef up security lately or something. It didn’t look that friendly.

A sign came into view as the boat went passed the island, leaving frothy white waves in its wake. Goldenscale Magical Zoo, Jason read. Aha! He’d heard about that- it was were all the cool creatures were kept, the magical ones you never got to see in ordinary zoos. He’d heard that there was even a dragon. Well, he mused, you would need a big fence to keep a creature like that in a zoo…

He drifted off again, imagining a huge green and purple dragon with giant nostrils suddenly swooping over the fence and grabbing him between its teeth. Jason shivered slightly. That would be so cool- but also pee-your-pants scary. And peeing your pants wasn’t cool.

He felt his lizard Perry crawling up his sleeve and laughed. His tiny lizard-feet tickled on his skin. Perry emerged from Jason’s clothing a moment later, grumpily standing to attention on his master’s shoulders. Perry had refused to go down in the hold with his tank, to the point where he had latched onto one of the porter’s nose with his teeth. The porter hadn’t looked happy with Jason after that.

Jason’s jaw dropped as they approached another island, his blue eyes widening until it looked like they might just pop out his skull. A majestic white castle was sitting in on the island, dominating the surrounding land with its high towers and large size. Jason gazed in awe. He was expecting a castle, but not as brilliant as this one. The white made it luminous and hard to miss, it seemed to hit him in the eye every time he looked that way. To think, he would be getting to spend so much time there and learn magic in those very walls…

Perry, by this time, had gotten bored. The hotheaded lizard jumped up Jason’s neck, giving Jason a firm bite on the ear. Jason yelped, quickly reaching up and de-latching Perry from his tender lobe. Perry climbed on top of Jason’s fingers, looking up to his young master as if to say “Don’t push it, kid.”

Jason shook his head and stowed the lizard back in his pockets. He then went back to staring up at the school, feeling like an ant in comparison to the giant building. He’d have to learn so much up there- being able to strike up a conversation with inanimate objects just wouldn’t cut it, according to his Grandma. Well, he’d show her. But, in the meantime, enchanting stuff was fun. Jason reached into the special wand holder his grandmother had given him to clip on his belt. The railing probably had a heap of interesting gossip to tell him…

He frowned as his fingers slid into empty space, his face suddenly contorting in alarm.

Uh oh. Where was his wand?

There was a child here. They're gone now.
“Oh my gosh!” Tadeo squeaked, staring wide eyed at the sparkling sea. And what a day for it, too! There were only a few, small clouds marring the sky. Every now and then there was a small splash out to sea, but Tadeo could not see them properly. Were they flying fish? Dolphins? Whatever they were, they excited Tadeo none the less.

An island loomed in front of the boat, but it didn’t seem to be the school. Tadeo moved further up the boat, past an older boy with a lizard on his shoulder. “Goldenscale Zoo…” he murmured to himself. He remembered that his mum had said that she’d worked there for a while, and won a phoenix in a raffle. Tadeo remembered the state the phoenix was in when he left. Ugh! Moulting ugly grey feathers, wheezing… that bird was due for a fire-bath.

Tadeo kicked away a shiny stick and glanced over to another island, this time holding the school. The school was in a word, awesome. A majestic, white castle- it was unreal. This was fairy tale stuff. Like those Hairy Plodder books that his mum thought was rubbish. Who knows? He thought. The writer might have attended CAVD!

‘Wow, Tadeo!’ came a boy’s voice from nowhere. ‘It looks like a decent school!’

“Yeah, I know!” Tadeo replied. Some heads turned at this, and then dismissed the spontaneous utterance. ‘Shut up, Brock, for now. Talk to you later.’ That seemed to work, as his head became quiet. The school grew ever closer, and Tadeo tensed with excitement. This was it! A new school! And the best bit- No maths!

A certain soon-to-be fourth year peered out of the window, bored eyes gazing at the sight of nervous and excited first and second years. She had hoped to catch up on the book she was currently "reading" but found it more interesting outside. Her black pitch eyes roamed the deck; it was the normal: new little (and not so little) students leaning over the rails and such. (Secretly, she hoped one of those ignorant first years would just happen to fall overboard, as one did on her first ship ride to CAVD, but the lack of excitement (or entertainment) was disappointing.) Katsu only raised an eyebrow at one of the student's sudden outburst, but thought no further on the matter.

'Things are so boring. After all, this is my fourth time; how much peculiar can anyone get?'

Her eyes went back to the book on her lap, the different scents and tastes of potions, one that her mother personally picked out for her. The fourteen-year-old had just barely absorbed that you could actually eat some of the herbs that were used to make potions that could poison, when an abnormal amount of movement attracted her attention back to the window. She didn't even give it a glance before telling herself,

'Ignore it. It's just the zoo.'

Although, she couldn't deny that she liked the animals. She was skittish (okay, she was very nervous) around animals; if skittish meant blowing her character and snuggling the first thing she saw. Katsu half sighed, pushing several strands of chocolate hair out of her eyes. The girl mentally counted to twelve in her head. On her first year, she was awed at the appearance; the second year, the naive girl wondered how long it would take to pass the zoo to the actual school.

'Eleven... Twelve... Thirteen...'

She looked up from her book, just in time to see an island out in the distance. Smiling to herself, she fixed the clip in her hair, and, with her silky black robes flowing around her, walked out onto the deck, the book tucked under one arm. The white castle was looming closer now, as she breathed in the salty taste of the air.

No matter how many times this certain Katsu saw CAVD, the onimously beautiful school still gave her an inspiring taste of what lied ahead. That's why she was still going to CAVD in the second place. That's why she always takes extra effort into seeing this refreshing sight before beginning the school year.

'Even if the deck is too crowded for my tastes,' a smirk tugged at her mouth, and she headed back inside without another word (not like she said anything at all). And people wondered why she even kept track of how long it took to see the school.

I was sat on a bench on the deck facing the portside of the boat. I hugged my hot chocolate close to my body, keeping the cool breeze from cooling my warm comforting drink too quickly. My dark wooden staff was perched on the bench next to me on my right, seemingly humming with content as the wind whistled around my body and on my left, Hyshio snoozed peacefully, his little blood-red body letting of a ray of warmth from his fiery body. The magically enchanted boat continued to skim though the water with all the speed of a tiny speedboat.

I tucked a lock of my midnight black hair behind my ear with my spare hand as the wind brought it out of place. Getting annoyed as the wind brought it loose again, I put down my hot chocolate on the seat next to Hyshio and picked up my staff. Closing my eyes from drying out in the face of the wind, I concentrated on my magical ability, letting my senses become acutely aware of the air, feeling its every movement and sway. My hair was loose again and I felt locks of it whip my face as I channelled some control and power into my teak staff. I released my power of control outwards from of me, stilling the air and slowly forming a ‘bubble’ of still air. I opened my eyes again. I could feel a little of my magic being used up as it maintained the control of the air, slowing It down. I smiled with satisfaction. I knew I could do that trick without my staff but it felt so good to do it slowly and thoroughly. It was a little bit of a shame that my teachers told me last year that I would have to start using more of my own magic without the aid of my staff. Staffs were only really there to help channel everyone’s power and help aim and focus. But I had already gain a pretty good control over my powers and it was time to stop using it so much.

I looked out ahead towards the prow of the boat and saw the school approaching. Feeling a little grim form my last thought, I drained my hot chocolate and picked up my miniature Wyvern and placed him around my neck, releasing his warm body as I released my control over the air. Instantaneously, I felt a rush of air hit me like a block of wood and I fell back a bit, my hair flapping wildly everywhere.

‘Great’ I said to myself. ‘Where’s a brush when you need one?’ turns out my brush was in my luggage in the storage section of the boat. Out of bounds. Feeling even more moody, I walked down the lower deck to give back the mug, which I borrowed for the hot chocolate.

What? Exactly
Amerigo sat inside the boat reading up on Ancient Egyptian Transmutation Magic when he heard the commotion from the other students. Sojo who was resting on a perch lifted his head. Amerigo sighed deeply and closed his book putting it back in his bag with his other books and supplies. He stood up and outstretched his arm, to which Sojo flew up and landed on it.

Amerigo walked up from the lower decks to see what everyone was gawking at. He came out to see that the boat was passing under a large fence that read “Goldenscale Magical Zoo.” He looked around and evaluated the student body. Most of the other First and Second years looked like a bunch of happy-go-lucky kids. He smiled as he imagined making fools of some of the less diligent students.

He had heard that he had been picked for the house known for being the strictest and diligent, which was perfect. Then while these losers were playing around, he would be well on his way to realizing his dream.

He stopped however when he thought about the fact that he would also be protecting these people. Somebody had to be responsible and mature in case anything happened. It would have to be him. He looked down and sighed sadly when his thoughts turned to trying to get friends. Everyone who wasn’t in his family always hated him for being part demon, and always feared him, thinking him evil. He wasn’t a monster, really. He just hoped that these kids would understand that. But for now the gloves and sunglasses he was wearing would be needed.

He turned and looked out to sea drifting off, as he became lost in thought. What if the teachers hated him for his looks? What if he got bullied? What if- He shook his head violently. He couldn’t think like that! He had to stay positive and try and put on a good face for these people. Remember, if you’re kind to them, they’ll be kind to you…right?

His stress, doubt, and anguish was visible on his face and Sojo looked at him worriedly. Amerigo put his hands on his head as he looked out to sea, until an island caught his eye. As they drew closer to it, he could see a beautiful white castle.

“That must be the school.” Amerigo thought, “I don’t know what’s going to happen this year, but I hope it’s good.”

Munch held his eyes closed, waiting for it to be over. "Aww, don't worry Munch, it'll be over soon," Ikan told Munch, the small gerbil who was cowwering in his lap. "Besides, you'll get used to it! It's only the second time," Ikan soothingly said, stroking Munch's head.

"Easy for you to say. You can actually swim, I cannot. But I guess you're right. The fact that you've been on this accursed boat three times before, whereas I've been on only once before makes me feel so much better! Maybe the boat will stop making me seasick next time, you said last time. Pff," Munch said angrily, chattering away. Ikan knew that the only way to keep Munch calm was to keep him talking, however obnoxious Munch got when he was scared.

"Alright, how about this," Ikan said picking up his staff. All of a sudden, Munch seemed to be covered in a ball of mist. Inside though, Munch was back in his cage, although an illusion. Popping his head out of the ball, Munch spoke to Ikan.

"Not funny," he said, climbing all the way out, and onto Joseph's shoulder, which was unfotunately by a window. "Eep!" he screeched, and jolted back down from his shoulder into the mist ball.

Argent scanned at the sea just below him. It was dark blue, and it was surely deep. But the part-werewolf could spot the random silver sheens of fish whose scales reflected the sunlight.

He was somehow able to find a remote area of the deck that didn't have a lot of students, although he could still hear the loud ramblings and chatters of other students, mostly from excited first and second years. And he was at least left alone by the more nervous, optimistic or rambunctious kids; his scarred eye would often do that, not that he minded.

Argent smiled against the small sea breeze that swept up his ponytail, confident that he could tolerate the noise, even though it was not as loud, if he could be able to see the zoo. And maybe a peek at whatever marine life he hadn't been able to see yet.

He felt his right pocket shuffle, and he glanced down at it. Out of the pocket popped small, silver wolf head. Argent was allowed to bring Claros with him; the miniature wolf was too small and quick to be contained unless magic was used, and since only his grandma, and maybe a few of the instructors, knew the spell, they didn't take any chances of their magic somehow affecting the wolf. Fact was, it seemed that the wolf always got slightly bigger or slightly smaller whenever Argent teleports him, which was why he always opted to keep his familiar close.

"G'mornin' to you, Claros," Argent whispered, petting the wolf's head with a thumb. Claros pressed against his thumb before giving out a small whine, making Argent smile a bit wider. "Wait a little longer; we're almost there."

And then his ears found the louder and more excited voices. He glanced at where it got louder and stood up straight at the sight of Goldensclae Magical Zoo. He really loved going to that place, with all the animals, mythical or otherwise.

'Then that means that we're getting close,' he thought as he noticed that Claros decided to hide back into pocket. He sighed; he knew what was coming next, and he knew how louder the first years would get; he'd rather avoid that.

He closed his eyes concentrated for a few seconds, letting his mind focus on a single area on the boat where he wouldn't be bothered until they arrived, and then in a blink of an eye, he disappeared.

He reappeared back where he left his things. He was spared the mild dizziness and nausea that came with teleportation because he was already used to it.

He opened his eyes slowly and knelt down, grabbing a nearby bag. Beside the bag was his staff; an old relic that was given to him. It rattled as it hit the ground, making Argent reach for it and putting it right beside him. He only used it when conjuring the most complex of spells, and when he had to protect himself.

He then took a seat, bag on his lap and staff right beside him, and he waited.

Alex sat back in his seat eyes half closed as the waves rocked the boat, Thorn was spread out in the next seat, his head resting on Alex's lap, it was a long journey from their house to the dock where they caught the boat,a journey that had to be made at night and which left them all tired, a glance out the window confirmed that they were not there yet and so alex closed his eyes and went to sleep.

Alex was woken a hour later by a scream, he looked up and saw some first years standing, rooted to the floor, Thorn who had already woken up was sniffing curiously at them, alex felt a pang of hunger that wasnt his and saw that one of the students had some food.

With a chuckle he called Thorn over and threw him a biscuit before walking out onto deck with the silver wolf tailing behind him, and stood at the front of the ship, a cool sea breeze blowing over him as he gazed into the deep blue water.

As he stood there lost in his memories he thought back to his last two years at CAVD, the good times and bad times, the excitement of seeing the castle for the first time...

Suddenly a flash of gold caught his eye and he saw the railings of the zoo came closer, followed by the gleaming white castle, smiling Alex started to head back under the deck to collect his belongings.

The boat docked. Mia followed the crowd out onto the island. Older students were rushing through the marble gateway into the school, but like many of the first years Mia stood gaping up at the magnificent castle. It was brilliantly white with thousands of windows. There was a huge tower with a mammoth C carved from stone. She figured that stood for Clearheart. She knew was even bigger than it looked, because her grandma had told her that there were extensive basements including the Aguaspell and Dafi-lore dorms. Her grandmother had also told her of the Vamtorat dorms, which she herself had been in, those were in the attic. Mia looked up the castle walls as high as she could, they somewhere up there.

A short troll (MightOx), probably no taller than 5 ft, stood next to the gate. He had large curly black horns, horribly crooked yellow teeth and rough greenish-grey skin. He wore a kilt of sorts and held a large wooden staff and silently watched the students as they went it. Most of the older students ignored him, a few acknowledged him with a wave or a nod. Some of the younger students however stared as they went past. Often he would smile at them showing off his grotesque teeth.

Just inside the gate there was an instructor (Prof. Garnet), he was sickly pale, thin, and tall, with short black hair and very active eyes. Maybe it was just his eyes or his sickly looks, but Mia thought he looked nervous. Mia could hear him calling, “Welcome first years, if you could all gather here, I’ll take you to the auditorium to get your house assignments and first term schedules.”

The boat had docked by the time I gave my empty mug of hot chocolate back to the nice cook and got back up onto the deck. A tide of students were rushing past me and heading off the boat onto the dock and up the path to the castle of CAVD. None of them had luggage. The luggage was brought up to the dorms during the arrival dinner. We were supposed to go to the main hall for dinner upon arrival although we were allowed to just go up to our assigned dorms straight away if we wanted to. I didn’t really know what to do. All my friends had disappeared somewhere and felt tired but also hungry as well.

Sighing loudly, I walked into the flow of people heading off the boat, seeing people of various years running around excitedly. Carefully walking off the gangway, I made my way towards the front gates, which were marking the boundaries of the school. I nodded to the grinning troll as I walked passed him, who waved back.

Then I saw him. I don’t know why I liked him so much and to be honest, he wasn’t much of a looker. But I couldn’t help but blush as the movement of the crowd brought me closer to him. I saw him help out a first year with that kind grizzled face of his and saw him look up…at me. It was only a brief look and a nod at me but I felt my heart skip a beat and if I could blush anymore, I did. Maybe it was something brilliant and wild about his gold eye or his animal-like appearance, which attracted me. But before I knew it, a cascade of people hurriedly trying to get to the castle drowned me and pushed my out of the way.

I sighed heavily once more. As if Argent would notice me. I was completely different from him in every way. I was the pretty rich girl and all my friends were ‘rich people’ who had power. I suppose I was a little arrogant and obnoxious sometimes but that didn’t mean I wasn’t a nice person. I looked up into the greying and clouding sky for some hope. It looked like it was going to rain tonight.

I was so lost in my troubles that I didn’t notice my best friend Victoria Marshal running towards me with her radical style of punkishness, her dyed red, black and purple hair, tied back in an ornate style and her shocking robes, tight and bright red and black. She was wearing her usual large amount of black eyeliner again and her face was marked with the usual wide mischievous grin.

‘Mi! There you are! Come on, I have to tell you something now!’ said Vicky quickly. Without warning, she grabbed my arm and dragged me surprisingly quickly into the foyer and then straight into the main hall of the castle where dinner was going to be held. We quickly ran towards the Clearheart table and sat down at our usual places on the long table.

‘What is it you wanted to tell me Vicky?’ I said, annoyed slightly. This was the wrong thing to do. Before I knew it, the gossip of the whole school was being thrown at my face and I sighed in despair. This was the one thing you had to put up with occasionally when you’re Vicky Marshal’s friend, her absent-minded chatting.

‘At least she’s a good mate…’ I thought quietly at my best mate rattled on. Students were filling up the hall very quickly and I thought I spotted Argent in a group of people enter but my attention was brought back down to earth with Vicky shaking my arm.

‘Are you listening to me Mi?’

‘Yes, yes, of course I am, Daniel Griffis has been working out and now he’s extremely hot according to you. Anything else you wish to tell me?’

Anthony slowly steps up the ramp onto the boat. Turning around for a brief second, he waves to his parents as he goes to find a place to relax.

"Hmm... Looks like we have alot of new students this year..." He sighs to himself as he plops down in a shady corner of the boat. Glancing down at his hands, he looks perplexed as they seem very blurry to him. Anthony slowly blinks his heavy eye lids as he realizes he forgot to sleep the last night.

"Yaaawwn..." He lets out stretching his arms and rubbing his eyes. "Maybe it won't be a bad idea to sleep for a while" And with that he falls asleep.

~~~~~~~~~~~
"Ahhh, jolly good day ol chap?" Anthony asks to a young woman in a red dress. "Would you be so kind as to dance with me?"
"Oh, ofcourse Anthony! And your top hat and monocle are to die for!" She replies in delight as she grabs his hand and runs off to the dance floor
The scene is a beautiful antique ball room in a magnificent castle. All the royal guests have arrived, and the party is alive and great.
"Some wine, Madam?" Anthony asks pouring two glasses of red wine.
"Oh!... But we are underaged!" She replies a little taken aback.
"I won't tell if you don't tell, my lady" He replies slyly. He then hands her the glass as he takes a sip of his own.
"G'day, cheerio!" A fat red haired man states walking over to Anthony. "Have you heard of the dreaded render?"
"i'm afraid I haven't, what exactly is this dreaded render, my good man?" Anthony replies respectfully
The fat man looks left and right as his face grows pale. "We... We arent supposed to talk about it... It's dangerous..." He states quivering.
"But, whatever do you mean?" Anthony asks quizzically
All of a sudden a great glowing arm crashes through the mansion and a storming rain floods into the house. Screams of terror flow through the house and people run screaming.
"Anthony, save me!!!!!!!!!" The red dressed girl screams as the giant hand lifts her through the wreckage.
"Oh no, we're in a pickle now arent we?" Anthony states calmly as he pulls out an umbrella and floats away.
~~~~~~~~~~~

"Gah!" all of a sudden, Anthony bursts awake and looks around suprised. "Oh... What an odd dream..." He says rubbing his eyes. "oh we've docked?" He groggily steps off the boat down towards the school.

"Hmm..." He can't help hearing Mi, discussing hot guys, so he decides to walk over to the crystal eyed girl. "So, chasing the hotties again this year?" He says laughing slightly. "well... I don't mean to be rude... Was the question rude, or the way I asked it rude? Hmmm... That reminds me of something..."

Anthony starts scratching his chin looking up in deep thought.

Ikan stroked Munch's soft little head as the boat docked. Waving his staff around, he made the mist ball disappear. "Munch, we're here," he said calmly, putting Munch on his shoulders. Following everyone else off the boat, he quickly became immersed in the crowd going into the school. Looking up, he saw the immense C, and he smiled. It was great to be back at CAVD. Waving at MightOx, who had helped him out of a sticky situation last year, *which involved a couple hexes on him from a group of hateful students) he entered the castle.

Ikan waved at Michiko, who was also in Clearheart, but she didn't seem to notice him. She was always being dragged along by her friend Vicky, so he didn't mind. Slipping in and out of the crowd, he eventually found his sister, who was in Year 7. "Hey sis, how was your ride?" he asked her. SHe was looked at a notice board and turned around, with her gerbil on her shoulder.

"Hey Ikan, it was great. Joshua actually talked to me!" she said, and she began to go on about how he complimented her hair, and Ikan's mmind began to wander. "Oh, and Dash had fun too," she said, stroking the dark brown gerbil, who was in a deep conversation with Munch. After a few final squeaks, Munch turned to Ikan's sister.

"Hey Clara, Dash wants more food. He feels like he's being underfed," Munch said, then turned to Ikan. "Come on, better get back to the table before we lose our seats," Munch said, nipping Ikan on the ear.

"Alright, I'll go. "See'ya at the feast, Clara," he said, waving to his sister. Walking with the crowd, he entered the main hall, and sat down at the long table for the Clearheart students. Taking Munch off his shoulder, he set him down to run around on the table before the feast began.

Argent smile lightly as his ears picked up the sound of the boat docking. 'Sounds like it's time to get off,' he thought, glancing at a nearby window.

True to its sound, the boat had already docked, and a multitude of students of various ages were alreadt going down. He stood up and took his staff and muttered a spell his grandmother taught him to minimize it to a smaller size; it would only last for 6 hours, if he remembered correctly. He never really went anywhere without it unless he had to.

This time, he had to walk to the deck; teleporting there would not be a good idea lest he wanted to draw any attention to himself.

He frowned at the uproar of excited chatter. This was one of the times he didn't really like upon arriving; the loud noises always bothered him to no end. He had grown to tolerate it, but that didn't mean he liked it.

--

Ignoring the sounds of loud voices and the stammering of feet, he approached the front gate, smiling and nodding at a troll, who was shorter than he should be, and was rewarded with an awkward smile. When he was a first year, MightOx was one of the few that had been able to help him cope with his intimidating features.

He stopped when he spotted a first year, who looked to be only nine years old or so, trip. He frowned; being part wolf made him a bit protective to those a lot younger than him. And his instincts always shadowed his shyer personality that came around those new people around his age.

He walked towards the child, ignored by the other students because of his demeanor and face.

When he reached him, he knelt down and held out his hand for the boy, who stared at him with wide blue eyes and slowly reached out.

Smiling softly, he pulled himself and the boy up. "Th-thank you," the boy stammered, looking a bit surprised. He had short, ruffled blonde hair and was rather short. He also looked to be a bit on the thin side.

"I was just helping," Argent told him over the loud bustle of other students. "Now go on, you wouldn't want to be late," he added, gesturing with his head the way to the gate.

The boy grinned at him. Surprisingly, the boy took his hand and asked, "Can you come with me?"

Blinking, Argent stared at the boy in surprise. And then he smiled lightly, saying, "Alright then." The boy smiled wider at him and lightly pulled.

As the boy pulled him along, he looked around. He spotted one of his sparring partners, whose name was Mi, and nodded at her, the small smile still placed on his face. He briefly wondered if she was alright when he noticed her face a bit flush.

--

After a while, Argent had to let go of the boy, whose name he found out was Miles, so that he could join the other first years, but promised that they'd see each other again. He rarely made friends, especially to the younger kids, so he was a bit happy.

He walked towards the Aquaspell's table, which was rather large. He took a seat that he frequently took; the one near the edge of the table. He found out that it wasn't as noisy near the edges. To his relief, the seats beside him weren't being taken, so he started to look for anyone he knew so that he/she could take the seat and spare him the mindless chatter of someone that he wouldn't want to or didn't know.

ROAWR!
Karmas walked off of the boat. To him that had been one of the world's most boring rides.

"Well I'm glad that's over with," commented Karmas to his white Maremma Polly.

The dog stared at him in a curious manner before jumping over Karmas' head and landing on a girl that was sneaking up on Polly's master.

"Stop it!" screeched the girl, "Karmas call Polly off!"

Karmas realised who the girl was before shouting out, "Polly! Get off of her!"

The dog looked at her master before getting of the girl.

"Cindy I'm so sorry," babbled Karmas as he helped his girlfriend up.

Karmas had met Cindy in the third year when he was being attacked. By using her magic, which was to freeze people, Cindy had stopped Karmas receive another beating. They had been going out since.

"So have you seen Cameron and/or Matilda?" asked Cindy as she brushed herself off.

"I think that they are starting school a couple of weeks late because of their mum," replied Karmas.

Cameron and Matilda were identical twins that Karmas had become friends with in the first year of school. Cameron was telekinetic and Matilda was adept at making love potions (and had made a big profit form this talent).

"Well we better get to our professors," said Cindy after planting a huge goodbye kiss on Karmas' lips.

In a dreamy state Karmas nodded and started to walk ... only to run into a pole.

Off Topic: VampirateMace, if you read this can you please PM me the dorms that Karmas' friends would probably be?

Mia followed the Instructor, Prof. Garnet, into the auditorium. Inside tables were apparently set for dinner, and it looked as though students were sitting by house. An old wizard stood in front of the teachers’ table, “Welcome new and returning students, I am Headmaster Torm. I and my assistants have reviewed the first year’s application forms over the summer and compiled your houses accordingly. Please get into the appropriate line, and we’ll get through pass these out as quickly as possible.

Mia got in line. Well, this was boring, no magic hat like in Terry Cotter. Inching forward towards the front of her line, Mia could feel her consciousness slipping. She fell asleep for a moment bonking on of the other first years in the head with her skull tipped staff.

“Ow,” he squealed looking back to see who had hit him. His scream woke Mia who quickly apologized. Finally she got up to the front of the line.

“Name?” asked the withered old witch at the front of her line.

“Mia Lin,” she answered. The wrinkled old woman handed her a sheet of paper. Mia Lin, Vamtorat house. Mia didn’t know whether to celebrate or not, she’d kind of expected it, and kind of dreaded it. They were supposed to have the most crowded Dorms, and surly they’d gotten worse since her grandmother’s time.

Crystallized decay
Erica leaned on the railing on the ship to be alone and get a whiff of the fresh ocean breeze but instead, all she got was loud outbursts and people beside her were throwing up over the sides. After seeing the yellow puke wash over the sides and into the water for the fifth time. She decided to go below deck, to avoid getting nauseated, and get one of her new astrology book while she was at it. Artemis her dove, was already loose and probably had reached Vamtorat attic.
And while she tiredly tried to open her bag, she couldn't help notice a speck of blonde between two black bags. Erica walked over, and noticed to her relief, that it wasn't an animal, but it was a human, a boy to be exact, about her age sleeping on the two bags as if they were pillows. He was wearing an elegant white button down shirt, and smart black dress pants, so much for following rules by wearing robes.
She had an urge to make a small piece of ice and drop it on his face to wake him up, but just suddenly the teen stirred.
He opened his eyes revealing two emerald orbs and uttered an "Uurrrmmfff."
"A hello to you too," she said dryly.
The boy snapped out of his sleepy reality and realized that someone was talking to him and his demeanor quickly changed from the sleepy look to giving a sly smile and a flirty glance, "You are...?"
"Someone," Erica said bored tone.
"Ah," he replied still with that sly smile, "I'm Dien Seatoak?"
Erica grudgingly decided to tell him her name, what harm was there? "Erica De'Tudorre." She blandly said.
"I see," Dien said and gave a yawn, "Sorry, jet lag, I just came from Australia."
Erica couldn't help but be interested. "You live in Australia?" she asked.
"Naw! My grandmother lives there. I was just visiting her."
"Oh."
"Why?-were you wishing for a chat with someone more interesting than I?" And Erica noticed he couldn't stop grinning at her, and giving her looks.
"No, just someone who can help me get a book out of my bag." She replied, maybe he would stop if she just ignored his glances.
He gave a concerned look and the stupid smile appeared again on his face, "I can do that."
They walked over to Erica's bag and the boy fiddled with his pocket and took out a wand, then suddenly the bag's zipper opened. Erica fiddled around inside the bag and finally found the old book. "That was clever." And she couldn't help but grin.
"It was nothing," he replied and scratched his back, "But we're not supposed to remove stuff from our luggage, weren't people supposed to come and bring the stuff to our rooms? And we're probably not supposed to be here."
Erica nodded, "But if I hide this in my robes, they won't suspect a thing, and the unloaders don't come in here until most of the students are eating, trust me."
"Mmm, why are you wearing your robe right now? Are we supposed to?" He questioned.
Erica gave a surprised look, "You're going to be first year?"
Dien sheepishly nodded, "Yeah, I'm starting late, even though I'm a first year, I'm 16. I'm guessing you're a 4th or 5th year."
"Wrong, I'm in my 6th year."
Dien looked astonished and hastily said, "Well I should change into my robes I think we're going to be boarding soon."
Erica gave a mute nod it was true, the ship was slowing down. "The boy's bathroom is upstairs on the deck; you'll see it once you get out."
Dien gave a silent 'thank you' and used his wand to open his bag and his black robe floated in the air into his outstretched arm, then he turned to the stairs leading to the top of the boat, but before climbing up, he turned around. "See you Erica, thanks."
"No problem," she replied.
Dien gave a mischievous wink and headed up before she could say anything else.
Erica rolled her eyes, boys...she didn't get them. But Dien was right. The boat had slowed down considerably and Erica had a feeling that they had docked, so she put the book back into her bag, because she didn't feel like taking a 3 pound book with her on her first day back at CAVD.
Climbing up the stairs, she could see that the majority of students had already left, and Dien wasn't with the remaining group. Erica sighed and headed out onto the dock, and into the gleaming white castle'. She was in Vamtorat and it was overcrowded beyond measure, what a great way to spend the whole year. One more reason to be in Clearheart (she heard that they had lofty big dorms of luxury), but then she wouldn't be able to do late night astrology. She also got a glimspe of one of her friends Mi in the dining hall, and gave a wave, then headed toward the Vamtorat table. She sat in the left corner like she always did, and waited for some of her fellow students and friends to come. She saw a glimpse of someone with the same unruly dirty blonde hair as Dien heading toward the Aquaspell table. Was it him? Erica couldn't see his face because his back was facing her.

Chase Your Dreams
Alex stretched his arms as he walked off the boat, sunlight beating down making him feel warm after the cool shade on the boat, Thorn bounded off of the boat and began running around, with a few muttered "excuse me"'s Alex pushed through the crowed so as to not lose sight of the wolf tearing off towards the castle.

Alex caught up with Thorn at the start of the path leading up to the castle, clipping a collar round the wolf's neck he walked up to the gates stopping to give MightOx a quick "hello".
After walking into the foyer Alex was looking around the entrance hall, which was full of groups of students greeting each other again when he felt a tap on his shoulder and turned round, coming face to face with his best friend Sharmon,
“Hey Alex! Long time no see”, Alex and Sharmon had become friends in their second years after a potion Sharmon was making exploded over the two( He had never been good at potions, he was better at elemental magic like alex), which Alex saw the funny side of fortunately, he was annoyed about having pink hair for a week but still…

“Come on lets go and have some dinner I’m starving after the boat journey”
A rumble from their stomachs agreed with them and chuckling they walked into the hall.

John, having slept through most of the boat ride, was awakened very abruptly. He stepped of the boat into the bright day, looking up at the school which had been his second home since he was 11. Lion stirred on his shoulder, having been sleeping there, he must have been awakened by the change in the amount of light around him.

"We're here Lion." He said to the monkey. "Time for a new year of magical learning! Let's go to dinner!"

Lion gave a small, quiet, "Squaaa." of approval.

John ran toward the castle, giving MightOx a quick wave as he passed. Once inside he saw the Dafi-Lore head ushering the first years to the auditorium, John however headed to the Dining Hall (or whatever you call it) to have his first meal at CAVD as a fourth year. He made his way to the table with the other Clearheart students, among them his best friend, Paul, whose magic was very much like his. (I hope this is ok with you VampirateMace) He then waited for dinner to begin. While he did so he asked Paul about his summer.

"Oh, I did nothing unusual, just hung out, my family and I went on vacation." Paul answered.

"I didn't do anything," John sighed "It was the most boring Summer in a while, I'm glad I'm finally back at school."

Literate

black cat, black cat
Katsuri had a very good reason to be one of the last ones off the ship. One, she hated being jostled in the crowd; two, the noisy, obnoxious teenagers were annoying her very guts (she knew she was being hypocritical and all since she was a teenager and she was equally as irritating, although for another reason besides oogling at boys.) The fourteen-year-old waited until the crowd thinned out and she trailed after, occasionally lifting a bored/amused eye at the catsle tower deemed Clearheart's dorms. Shadows fell into her sight as she walked under the gates, the troll recieving many a wave and smile. She used to wave at him, the first year and second (mostly out of pity), but now that she saw that he got enough attention, she could do without acknowledging his presence at all.

Her book safely tucked under her arm, Katsu followed the messy and noisy crowd into the grand auditorium, her expression falling back onto the bored one. Her mind was buzzing though.

'There's so much food... and people... I wonder if anyone would start a food fight. They should. But they're probably going to be found out and expelled anyway, so there's no use in trying,' she concluded, inconspiciously drifting to the Dafi-Lore table. Inconspicious enough not to attract attention, but conspicious enough for some people to blink at her. But as long as she thinks she not being seen, she's satisfied.

'There's four who just turned their head away from me.'

Out of- what? Thousands of students? She sighed, sinking into an empty space, painfully aware that the other obnoxious teenagers (who likes to show off their wealth) were chatting their mouths off. The girl normally fared well in crowds, as long as she doesn't convince herself that everyone's talking about her (while most of the time, they aren't). Once the headmaster started talking, however, she tuned out all sound and stared at a fixed space in the wall behind the old wizards.

'Yada, yada, I hear this speech every single year. I'm starving. Can we eat?' she complained in her head, irritated,eyes portraying no emotion whatsoever. But when the first year's house-assignments came up, the teenager perked up and watched with eager eyes as the first-years walked up. Katsu normally did that every year; she was curious to as which house they go in, whether they seemed good enough to tease or not to, whether they were up to her standards of socialization. She couldn't help but giggle slightly at the sight of one of the young girls (probably around her age) hit someone else on the head (accidentally).

'Reminds me to make a magnetic based potion.'
