Chapter One

Bug Maniac Marc

Bug Pokemon Fanatic
This is chapter one of my epic saga...

The gray morning sky sunk Benjamin’s hopes of winning the gym battle that day. He already had doubts due to the fact that he had never beaten his rival Philip since the day they had both started their pokemon journey. Ben’s 13 year old features could barely be seen in the dark and dank Viridian Forest. His short blonde hair was the only way anybody could recognize him. It had been 2 years since his training began, but he still felt that he was a rookie. His footsteps echoed as he stepped into the marble floor of the Viridian Forest gym.

“It’s nice to see you again, my old friend.” It had been over 6 months since Ben had seen Philip last, but he could recognize Philip’s voice anywhere. Philip walked into the light and Ben noticed that he hadn’t changed. Philip was a tall and slip fellow, and 20 years older than Ben. He had taken care of Ben and they had lived together until they both left on their journeys. Both kids were orphans, and treated each other as brothers. But even that could not stop both of their determinations to win. “Shall we begin?” Philip continued. Ben nodded, and they both stepped into their positions in the arena.

A cloaked figure, supposedly the referee, stepped onto the field. “This will be a 3 on 3 battle with no time limit.” He announced. Both trainers nodded as the tensioned mounted. Ben sent out his Shuckle to start things off. Philip lightly chuckled and sent out one of the pokemon he was known for, Günter his Armaldo. Armaldo resembled a dinosaur with 8 rainbow feathers sprouting from his neck, while Shuckle resembled a yellow enigma with a turtle like shell. Günter started out with ancient power as his first attack. Several boulders flew out from the gym wall and crashed into the small turtle like pokemon Shuckle. Ben knew that even his extremely defensive pokemon Shuckle could not withstand too many attacks such as ancient power.

Ben commanded his companion pokemon to use toxic, an attack that would eat at Armaldo at an increasing rate. Günter reeled in pain as the poison leaked into his body. Armaldo, even in pain, quickly retaliated with an earthquake attack. The whole building shook as the dinosaur like creature stomped the ground. Even after this grueling attack Shuckle still had some fight in him. The small turtle like creature was commanded to use rest, and fell asleep almost instantaneously. His wounds seemed to vanish as he slept.

“Very impressive Ben!” Philip’s voice could barely be heard above Armaldo’s yelp of pain as the poison depleted his health. “But using rest has left you open.” Armaldo then attacked with three successive ancient power attacks, fainting Benjamin’s Shuckle. Ben winced at his lost and reluctantly returned his pokemon. Ben reached for the pokeball at his belt and tossed it onto the field. It opened and suddenly a small yellow rodent like creature appeared on the field. The Raichu looked playful and was happy to have been chosen to fight. The small creature’s calm expression quickly changed into one of determination as he raced across the field. Ben yelled out for his Raichu to use Thunderbolt. Suddenly the pokemon’s cheeks started to glow. Small sparks could be seen flying out in various directions. Suddenly, one very large bolt came flying out of the rodent’s cheeks, hitting Günter directly and fainting him.

Philip recalled his pokemon without a word and sent out his next one, a Claydol. This new pokemon resembled an Aztec statue with many pink eyes around its head. This creature floated in the air, making any attempt to use a ground attack on it futile. Raichu quickly, without being given a command used another thunderbolt on the creature. Claydol was not fazed by any means. “Looks like you need to retrain your pokemon!” Philip smirked. Ben scowled and realized that Philip was right. Philip’s pokemon were very obedient while his had too much independence.

Claydol responded to the failed attempt of an attack by producing a toxic attack and shooting it out at the thunder mouse. Ben was dumbfounded by the fact that Claydol could learn such an attack. Raichu was slowly affected by the poison and seemed to lose its competitive perk. Ben had sadly only taught his Raichu electric attacks, and could now only either wait for Raichu to faint of poison or switch out. He chose the latter, hoping that Raichu could help him out later. He returned the mouse and sent out his pride and joy Lapras. Lapras represented a dinosaur like fish with blue skin and a grey shell. Lapras was Ben’s most powerful pokemon and Ben expected it to win the battle for him. “Claydol Explosion!” Philip knew that Lapras would destroy Claydol in one attack, so he decided to sacrifice his own pokemon to destroy his opponent.

In a matter of seconds, the statue like pokemon started to glow red, and then spontaneously exploded. The blast was no small thing. The greenery in the gym lit on fire and the few windows shattered under the explosive impact. Both pokemon lay fainted on the stadium floor. Both trainers returned their pokemon and sent their final hopes to win the battle. Ben sent out his weakened Raichu reluctantly, but hoping that Philip would send out a water or flying pokemon. Sadly what Philip did send out was not water or flying, but a Cacturne, a grass/dark pokemon. Even though Raichu had an edge with speed, he was poisoned, and electric attacks would not affect Cacturne because of his grass element. Philip would not sit by and let Ben think over what attack to use. He commanded his Cacturne to use Hyper Beam. The blast blew the poor mouse through the wall of the gym and into a nearby tree.

The match was over and Philip was the victor. Even though Ben was disappointed, he was not angry. He walked up to Philip and congratulated him after recalling his Raichu. He vowed that he would be back to claim Philip’s badge, and he headed for the door.
“Good work my student” Ben snapped his head back as the referee’s voice echoed through the building. The cloaked figure walked towards Philip and removed his robe, revealing his face. Ben gasped in shock when he saw the referee’s face. The man was no other than Giovanni, the boss of Team Rocket!

“You!” Ben yelled out. “You trained Philip?”

“Leave now Ben” Philip retorted. “You have already seen too much”
Ben ran out restraining tears. His friend, and the one that he thought of as his brother had been working for evil the whole time. He ran and ran until he reached Pewter city. Ben collapsed in the center of the city too tired to find a suitable place to sleep. That night nightmares haunted the young boy, Nightmares of Team Rocket taking over the world. Ben woke the next morning with a terrible back ache. He decided that he would visit the Viridian Forest gym that day, and try to learn as much information as he could.

When he reached the forest, it was if his nightmares had really come true. The gym was burnt down as was the entire Viridian Forest. All that remained were miles and miles of burnt branches. A flock of Murkrow soared above the carnage, looking for a possible meal. The bird’s black silhouettes were barely visible in the cloud of grey smoke. This had to be stopped. That was the first thought that ran through Ben’s head.

And so Ben’s quest began….. End of chapter 1

Chapter 2:
Ben could hardly think straight with all that had happened in the last day. His friend working for the enemy all along. They thought brought a bitter taste to his mouth. Ben returned to the sight of the fire later that day to find a burnt note addressed to him. It read
-Ben, I know that there are things that I need to explain, but I cannot right now. Stay out of Team Rocket’s affairs or we will be forced to take more drastic actions than we already have.
-Philip

A sudden surge of emotion flooded through Ben. He had to stop Philip. Whatever sick plans that Team Rocket was plotting had to be stopped, and to do that, he would need all the help that he could get. Ben set out for the next gym immediately. He figured that the next gym badge he hadn’t received was at the gym in Rock Tunnel. The Journey would be long, but to stop his new adversary, he would need to reach the elite 4.
---------------Back at rocket headquarters--------------

“You have proven yourself worthy, but what is it that you want” The boss rocket’s voice echoed slowly through the grand hall.

“I need to find a certain trainer, and get revenge on what he did to me” Philip responded slowly, unsure if Giovanni was testing him.

“Who”

“His name is Red…. I met him 6 months into my journey. It was the final for the Hoenn league, and I was handed a truly humiliating defeat, and the only one I have ever had. I must get revenge on him and reclaim my honor.”

“This can be arranged; however I do need a favor in return……”

The journey to the gym was nearly complete. The entrance to the fabled Rock Tunnel lay before Ben. It was truly a grand thing to see. He stepped in slowly unsure of what he would find. Small lanterns lit the two passageways that the entranced branched off into. A small wooden sign stood, barely readable, in the center of the two. The sign read.
< Passage of the man----------Passage of the child>

Swallowing his fear Ben headed into the dim light of the left passage hoping to find the gym. After receiving several cuts and bruises stumbling in the dark, Ben reached what he was looking for. A huge building cut into the inside of the cave lay before him. Statues of various pokemon were cut into the “walls” of the gym. Even the very sight of the gym left Ben thinking that the battle would be hard. After studying the various beautiful statues that surrounded the building, Ben walked in.

“Well, it has been quite a time since I’ve seen a challenger in my gym.” The booming voice cracked through the air like a roll of thunder. “I take it you want a badge?”

“Uh…Yes” Ben was almost afraid of the man he saw. He was very muscular, looked to be just average height and had short black hair. The man seemed to be in his middle ages but seemed to be very fit.

“Well, let’s get to battling! I think a one on one should be suitable.”
Without any hesitation the man threw out what looked like a stone pokeball. Ben took the leaders lead and sent out his pokeball too. The two creatures stared each other down. Ben had released his most reliable pokemon, a Buterfree. This creature resembled a large butterfly with a blue furry body complemented by two large white wings.

On the other side of the gym was what could be thought of as an opposite to Buterfree. The gym leader had sent out a Nidoking. The Nidoking resembled a large purple rhino like creature that stood on its hind legs. The Nidoking snarled and growled, as if ready to tear through any of its opponents.

“This should be interesting” the gym leader yelled from across the gym. Ben nodded and commanded his Buterfree to use Supersonic. Ben covered his ears as the shrilling noise echoed through the arena. The attack was successive and Nidoking began rampaging in his confusion. The man however had no glint of dismay in his eyes and his expression was still.

Ben was surprised at the effects of Nidoking’s confusion. The beast rampaged around the gym occasionally smashing into the walls. If this was to continue, the whole gym would collapse. Ben had to take advantage of the situation. “Psychic!” he called out. Buterfree instantaneously responded by going into a Trance like state. Suddenly the purple beast was lifted off the ground, a bluish light coating him. Nidoking stood still in the air for a few seconds before he was thrown into the nearby wall, leaving an indentation about 3 meters thick. Unfortunately, this attack snapped Nidoking out of confusion.

“Nidoking, Rock Slide.”

The man’s voice was still it’s surprisingly calm self, as if he was also in a Trance like state. The rhinoceros like creature stomped the ground and knocked Ben off his feet. Suddenly several boulder sized rocks fell from the ceiling directly above Butterfree. Ben smirked at the obviousness of this attack, and knew that his pokemon would dodge out of the way. Then, a sense of terror swept over Ben. His Butterfree was still in a trance from using psychic!

“Butterfree!” he called out.

The small creature shook its head and looked around, not aware of the impending doom.

“Quick use Psychic” Ben was almost crying at the cause of the terror that was before him. At that moment Buterfree began to glow… everything in the gym froze. The trainers froze, the pokemon froze, and the boulders froze. Suddenly, the rock slide that was soon to be Butterfree’s death was flung across the stadium and smashed into Nidoking. As the ruble cleared, the victor of the battle was seen. Butterfree had won.

Ben was given the Terra badge, and congratulated on his quick thinking. Ben was troubled though, as to what the leader had said when he handed him the badge.

“Boss won’t be happy.” That single thought ran through his head as he left the gym.

Despite all the grammar errors and typos, it definitely looks interesting. Just try to tidy up a bit, it is VERY messy, though. I'm not going to run down the errors since that would take a while (to say the least); copy-paste it into Microsoft Word and it'll correct most of these spelling mistakes for you.

Yeah... looks interesting, some backstory would be nice...
and one complaint
"dark and dank viridian forest"
i've only heard dank describe one other thing before...
and it means humid...
guess that could work,
but kanto really isn't all that tropical...
sorry for the nitpicking... that word just grabbed my attentionXD

I didn't even know dank existed XD I thought they meant damp (ie the synonym XD), which would have been an interesting twist to the usual 'spooky forest' thing. That would have been much better, in my opinion.
