Bug Pokemon Fanatic
This is chapter one of my epic saga...
The gray morning sky sunk Benjamin’s hopes of winning the gym battle that day. He already had doubts due to the fact that he had never beaten his rival Philip since the day they had both started their pokemon journey. Ben’s 13 year old features could barely be seen in the dark and dank Viridian Forest. His short blonde hair was the only way anybody could recognize him. It had been 2 years since his training began, but he still felt that he was a rookie. His footsteps echoed as he stepped into the marble floor of the Viridian Forest gym.
“It’s nice to see you again, my old friend.” It had been over 6 months since Ben had seen Philip last, but he could recognize Philip’s voice anywhere. Philip walked into the light and Ben noticed that he hadn’t changed. Philip was a tall and slip fellow, and 20 years older than Ben. He had taken care of Ben and they had lived together until they both left on their journeys. Both kids were orphans, and treated each other as brothers. But even that could not stop both of their determinations to win. “Shall we begin?” Philip continued. Ben nodded, and they both stepped into their positions in the arena.
A cloaked figure, supposedly the referee, stepped onto the field. “This will be a 3 on 3 battle with no time limit.” He announced. Both trainers nodded as the tensioned mounted. Ben sent out his Shuckle to start things off. Philip lightly chuckled and sent out one of the pokemon he was known for, Günter his Armaldo. Armaldo resembled a dinosaur with 8 rainbow feathers sprouting from his neck, while Shuckle resembled a yellow enigma with a turtle like shell. Günter started out with ancient power as his first attack. Several boulders flew out from the gym wall and crashed into the small turtle like pokemon Shuckle. Ben knew that even his extremely defensive pokemon Shuckle could not withstand too many attacks such as ancient power.
Ben commanded his companion pokemon to use toxic, an attack that would eat at Armaldo at an increasing rate. Günter reeled in pain as the poison leaked into his body. Armaldo, even in pain, quickly retaliated with an earthquake attack. The whole building shook as the dinosaur like creature stomped the ground. Even after this grueling attack Shuckle still had some fight in him. The small turtle like creature was commanded to use rest, and fell asleep almost instantaneously. His wounds seemed to vanish as he slept.
“Very impressive Ben!” Philip’s voice could barely be heard above Armaldo’s yelp of pain as the poison depleted his health. “But using rest has left you open.” Armaldo then attacked with three successive ancient power attacks, fainting Benjamin’s Shuckle. Ben winced at his lost and reluctantly returned his pokemon. Ben reached for the pokeball at his belt and tossed it onto the field. It opened and suddenly a small yellow rodent like creature appeared on the field. The Raichu looked playful and was happy to have been chosen to fight. The small creature’s calm expression quickly changed into one of determination as he raced across the field. Ben yelled out for his Raichu to use Thunderbolt. Suddenly the pokemon’s cheeks started to glow. Small sparks could be seen flying out in various directions. Suddenly, one very large bolt came flying out of the rodent’s cheeks, hitting Günter directly and fainting him.
Philip recalled his pokemon without a word and sent out his next one, a Claydol. This new pokemon resembled an Aztec statue with many pink eyes around its head. This creature floated in the air, making any attempt to use a ground attack on it futile. Raichu quickly, without being given a command used another thunderbolt on the creature. Claydol was not fazed by any means. “Looks like you need to retrain your pokemon!” Philip smirked. Ben scowled and realized that Philip was right. Philip’s pokemon were very obedient while his had too much independence.
Claydol responded to the failed attempt of an attack by producing a toxic attack and shooting it out at the thunder mouse. Ben was dumbfounded by the fact that Claydol could learn such an attack. Raichu was slowly affected by the poison and seemed to lose its competitive perk. Ben had sadly only taught his Raichu electric attacks, and could now only either wait for Raichu to faint of poison or switch out. He chose the latter, hoping that Raichu could help him out later. He returned the mouse and sent out his pride and joy Lapras. Lapras represented a dinosaur like fish with blue skin and a grey shell. Lapras was Ben’s most powerful pokemon and Ben expected it to win the battle for him. “Claydol Explosion!” Philip knew that Lapras would destroy Claydol in one attack, so he decided to sacrifice his own pokemon to destroy his opponent.
In a matter of seconds, the statue like pokemon started to glow red, and then spontaneously exploded. The blast was no small thing. The greenery in the gym lit on fire and the few windows shattered under the explosive impact. Both pokemon lay fainted on the stadium floor. Both trainers returned their pokemon and sent their final hopes to win the battle. Ben sent out his weakened Raichu reluctantly, but hoping that Philip would send out a water or flying pokemon. Sadly what Philip did send out was not water or flying, but a Cacturne, a grass/dark pokemon. Even though Raichu had an edge with speed, he was poisoned, and electric attacks would not affect Cacturne because of his grass element. Philip would not sit by and let Ben think over what attack to use. He commanded his Cacturne to use Hyper Beam. The blast blew the poor mouse through the wall of the gym and into a nearby tree.
The match was over and Philip was the victor. Even though Ben was disappointed, he was not angry. He walked up to Philip and congratulated him after recalling his Raichu. He vowed that he would be back to claim Philip’s badge, and he headed for the door.
“Good work my student” Ben snapped his head back as the referee’s voice echoed through the building. The cloaked figure walked towards Philip and removed his robe, revealing his face. Ben gasped in shock when he saw the referee’s face. The man was no other than Giovanni, the boss of Team Rocket!
“You!” Ben yelled out. “You trained Philip?”
“Leave now Ben” Philip retorted. “You have already seen too much”
Ben ran out restraining tears. His friend, and the one that he thought of as his brother had been working for evil the whole time. He ran and ran until he reached Pewter city. Ben collapsed in the center of the city too tired to find a suitable place to sleep. That night nightmares haunted the young boy, Nightmares of Team Rocket taking over the world. Ben woke the next morning with a terrible back ache. He decided that he would visit the Viridian Forest gym that day, and try to learn as much information as he could.
When he reached the forest, it was if his nightmares had really come true. The gym was burnt down as was the entire Viridian Forest. All that remained were miles and miles of burnt branches. A flock of Murkrow soared above the carnage, looking for a possible meal. The bird’s black silhouettes were barely visible in the cloud of grey smoke. This had to be stopped. That was the first thought that ran through Ben’s head.
And so Ben’s quest began….. End of chapter 1
