• Hi all
Just a notice, we recently discovered that someone got into a moderator account and started hard deleting a load of key and legacy threads...around 150 threads have been lost dating back to 2007 and some weeks ago so we can't roll the forums back.
Luckily no personal data could be accessed by this moderator, and we've altered the permissions so hard deleting isn't possible in the future
Sorry for any inconvenience with this and sorry for any lost posts.

Character Customization Discussion Thread

I'd like to be able to select more hair options at the start, like length, color (pink, blue, green, purple, blood red etc.) We should also be able to pick our height. The ability to remove hats should be a thing again. And for us girls: dresses in varying lengths: very short (for those that want to be skimpy I guess), short, medium (knees?), tea length (past knees) and floor length (formal etc.).

Pfft I don't think floor length formal dresses would be very convenient or practical for running in tall grass or through snow, marshlands, rain, deserts, etc.

It's Pokemon, though. When has realism ever been part of it?

If we speak of this strictly in terms of customization, realism had kinda sorta existed ever since customization had become a thing. For example, available hair colors have mostly been what we might see irl, such as blonde, brown, and black.

I remember seeing wine red as a hair colour in the Pokémon games before but that’s the only unnatural hair colour I’ve seen. I think they’ll eventually go out of realism and use unnatural colours for hair.

Pokemon has always been practical with it's clothing. It's almost all active or lightweight clothing with travel in mind.

Each region also has a fairly unique fashion style which I like. I'm looking forward to a new region with a new style.

I think it’s more influenced by regional culture more than practicality. However practicality does play a role on the influence on culture. I just feel that they’re more or so representative of that culture rather than if it’s a wise decision to wear it or not.

Point is that I'd like them to give us options that may not necessarily be practical. It's customization after all. I see that a lot of us here want the anime hair colors.

It would. But it would probably be funny too. The main thing I'd like is to be able to pick our age and height while also being able to adjust the length of our hair at the start.

While I would absolutely love to pick my height and age (gimme day facial hair option pls), I feel like it's just a pipe dream.

Unfortunately, that might be. But there's always hope that Game Freak will knock it out of the park. I do have a feeling they'll at least give us more hair colors to choose from.

They did expand customization in SM compared to XY. They increased the amount of hair colors from 5 to 9. They also increased the amount of hair styles from a paltry 4 for boys and 6 for girls to 6 for boys and 8 for girls. SM also added the ability for girls to customize how they style their bangs, as they can be either sideswept, straight, or completely absent. SM also added the ability to take off the player's hat, as well as the ability to wear glasses and other eyewear. Girls can now also wear lipstick as well. The player can also dye white clothes through the Festival Plaza. The Lens Case (which allows players to change their eye color) has more options available and is now given in a plot relevant cutscene as opposed to the player having to go to an optional area in order to receive it. USUM further increased the amount of hair styles, adding 2 new styles for boys and 1 new style for girls.

Girl bang editing was in XY. They also replaced a few of the hair styles rather than just adding in new ones and keeping all the XY ones.

The fact that there are more options to choose from is what matters.

Sadly, it appears that character customization has been removed.

SAYYYY WHAT???

I don't think so. You can see that the characters do change their clothes in certain parts of the trailers such as for the football game. It's too early to say that. They even kept it in LGPE so I'm safely assured they wouldn't get rid of one of their most popular features.

Lol way too soon to say. When SM got it's big reveal in May, we had no sign that customization was returning.

Exactly. We didn't even see a skin tone change for the characters until MONTHS later. It's way too early to call that on the first trailer. When more gameplay comes out then I'll decide it.
