I just had a questions about the friends...
[SPOIL]There is a bigger relationship that is growing throughout the adventure between you and your rival. Josh mentionned that rival to be Shauna (as he is playing the boy). Do you think it's true ? How would it work if you are playing the girl ?[/SPOIL]

That's what I'd like to know.

Oh, why can't Saturday come already? It's always the last days of waiting that make me craziest. I'm still not use to some of the Gym Leaders designs, and most of the E4's really, but I figured once I play I'll grow to like them all more.

...Someone seriously needs to teach me how to use spoiler tags; since I know 80% of what's being spoiled and am feeling a bit left out in these conversations. CX

Valerie is cool, but in my opinion she really isn't doing anything, design-wise, to alleviate Fairy Type's stereotype of being full of "girly, fluffy pink balls of happiness". And this is coming from someone who loves the Fairy-Type and will definitely use them in game. I was hoping for a person (a male, honestly) whose appearance advertised our new type as something more...unisexual, if that makes sense to anyone.

Does this mean that I mind/dislike Fairy being feminine? Absolutely not (Fighting-Types are almost packed with pokemon who feature masculinity, so why not have a type whose main draw is femininity? GF may gain a new audience for thier trouble!). I'm just tired of naysayers making sexist remarks about how "girly" or weak Fairy is in their eyes.

I don't know how to use spoiler tags either. I did it once, but don't remember how. One of my famous internet noob moments XD

The only thing I'm not crazy about with Valerie are those eyes. They are creepy.

You can either type out (remove the spaces): [ S P O I L E R = *whatever you want to title it* ]*whatever you want to spoil*[ / S P O I L E R ]

Or you can go advanced, highlight the text that you want to hide, and then click the "Spo" option on the bottom line of the HTMLwhatever code panel and then enter the title that you want in the pop-up box.

Or just emulate this when you respond to this post:

My favourite is the eighth gym leader, Wulfric!

Let's go to the beach, each.

I know what you mean. I like Valerie's design; it slays almost as much as Wulfric's imo, but it doesn't help the Fairy-type stereotypes. Although granted, it's not like Gamefreak should worry about that stuff, but still. If Ramos could break the Grass-type Gym Leader cliche, I'm sure Gamefreak could've done the same thing to the Fairy-type Gym Leader.

Everything stays.
To use the spoiler tags, you just need to do this;
[ spoil] to open and [ /spoil] (without the spaces) to close the tag.
[spoil]This is a spoiler![/spoil]

and if you want to had some sort of little message before opening the spoiler tag, you just need to do like this;

[ spoiler=MESSAGE] to open and [ /spoiler] to close (without the spaces).
MESSAGE

Is Ramos the first male Grass Gym Leader? I could have sworn we had at least one more. We don't have too many Grass Gyms.

We had Cilan!

Wow, MegaGreninja'd.

I personally don't really count Cilan since aside from Pansage he also used a Normal-type in battle, and he was no longer a Gym Leader when he finally had a team of Grass-types. Ramos at least has three Grass-type Pokemon when he's battled in the games so I feel that it makes him the first true male Grass-type Gym Leader. :p

I think the stereotypical female Fairy specialist was a good way to introduce the new type. A male, masculine Fairy user would be a better addition once the type has been around for awhile.

I guess Cilan is who I was thinking of. I wasn't sure if he counted or not.

Hi

Thanks, you guys--this was killing me for a while. XD

...But on topic, I really have no problems with how any of the Gym Leaders/E4 look. Olympia just screams Rose from Street Fighter, though (this is my second mention of that series in less than a week...obsessive fan is obsessive); so she really stands out from the crowd in my eyes.

How didn't I notice that? God, yes! A tall, elegant, purple-haired psychic. I like Olympia even more now.

Maybe that's what their gameplan was with fairies in general. Mainly stereotypical fairies (excluding some like Xerneas and Klefki) until we get more used to it, and maybe next gen we'll get more on the mythological side....

Cilan, Cress, and Chili seem to be, for all intents and purposes, considered actual Grass-, Water-, and Fire-type Leaders, respectively. In the PWT, they each battle with a team composed entirely of Pokémon of those types, so even if they technically didn't "count" in BW1, that doesn't seem to matter as far as their respective type specialties are concerned.

And let us not forget about Volkner, who used an Octillery in DP and was still considered an Electric-type Leader (to say nothing of Flint in the Elite Four).

Also, on the Shauna/opposite rival topic from earlier, Josh just said this when asked which one it was who shows affection for you:

"even at the mansion you're with Shauna and she talks about how happy she is to have this memory with you while you watch fireworks together and another time you watch the lights on the not eiffle tower light up and shes happy to have another memory with you

Serena just wants to battle you over and over and its nothing more than that.

Its shauna."
So yes, I am now very curious to see how this will play out if you choose Serena.

Not to mention they do take part in the Type Expert tournament for their respective types.

It's just that BW had a policy of "no Gym Leader can use Pokémon that the player hasn't found yet", so the only Pokémon of their types they could use were the elemental monkeys (and the Starter Pokémon, but I guess Game Freak wanted to leave them just for the player and the rivals).
