this episode showed how crule some trainers can be but it worked out great in the end

This was one of my favorite episodes. Lol, that Damian sure got what he deserved. Charmander was a good Pokemon, I'm glad that Ash has Charmander back then. And of course, Charmander was one of my favorite Pokemon.

What I don't get is why Damian had a whole bag full of occupied pokeballs. I get that he had caught all these pokemon and must have been pretty skilled to have done so, but how could he have so many pokemon in his party? He may be an a**, but he is still obligated to keep a limit of 6 pokemon with him at any given time, not an entire garbage bag full of them.

Maybe the Pokeballs were empty. Or he bought billions of Pokeballs. Yeah, it was weird, how he could carry that many...

Could be. Maybe they just temporarily decided to forego the "6 Pokemon to a party" rule for the sake of a dramatic image of an insolent kid who's just abandoned a Pokemon gloating over his horde of Pokemon.

I remember thinking that Charmander was so cute when I was little. Lol. But I was annoyed at how Damien abandoned him, it made me mad. I also was scared when Brock said it was going to die! But it all worked out in the end :) Although -looking back-, as much love & affection Brock showed for it, I think he should've caught Charmander. But I guess Ash wanted to be greedy...

I give this episode a:
7.9/10

Charmander is so awesome! And his voice is good too!
Who would've thought that he would evolve into one o ash's strongest pokemon?

Poor Charmander, it was so weak, but Brock and Ash saved it.
Damien was so mean, Charmander was too loyal to him, it was sad...

Let's go to the beach, each.
Very interesting. Finally, an abusive trainer appears.

I liked it, it was very dramatic with Charmander possibly dying if it's tail flame went out :(

I'm glad it stayed with Ash, even though Brock was the one who worried about it the most :/ 6/10

So hot he's on fire.
Eheheh. My obsession with Damian is back, and I've been capping this ep like a madwoman.

I don't care if he was an abusive jerk, he's gorgeous and his accent is super-sexy. 8D Also (i think i actually said it first time i commented on this thread) I hate Charmander and its evolutions, so seeing one of my least favorite Pokemon get shafted by one of the sexier CoTD's just kinda made me drool all over myself. O_O

I think this episode is important for understanding Charizard's mindset and his reasons for later disobeying Ash. As in, his abusive childhood - and of course, when he remembers that Ash and Co. saved it from Damien, he later regains his loyalty.

The only thing I liked about Damien was that he had caught a lot of pokemon and I always liked that scene with him and all the pokeball's on the table, but he was a downright jerk. I'm glad Ash & Co. saved Charmander from him and his abusive ways. He was the Paul before Paul and Charmander was the Chimchar before Chimchar.

That's one of things that I remember liking the most about Charmander. It's voice. Damien was very cruel to charmander and it sure showed Damien in the end how strong it was. Reminds me of chimchar and Paul right now.

A.J seemed to have more than 6 Pokemon as well as do a few other characters, especially those who specialise in several of the same kind of Pokemon.

One thing I didn't get was how Charmander was able to go into Ash's Pokeball the second time he tried to catch it. It should have bounced off if it was already Damien's at the time.

He had more than 6 but I think most of them he just took from home or from Oak.
As for Charmander I think that after that he burned Damien and the pokeball, it was considered that he was released.

No, I meant when Charmander was still on the rock, it went into Ash's pokeball before getting back out again.

I believe Charmander at the rock stump was still owned by Damian. That time, he may have abandoned it, it wasn't officially released until he ran away when Charmander burned him, along with Pikachu.

A very moving episode indeed. Poor little charmander endured so much pain for the sake of loyalty. Glad Ash and Brock saved it and took it away from that Damien f***tard.
