Cheated Carts and Participation in Nintendo Events

Say I got an Emerald from a friend. He has used a cheating device on the cartridge. But if I were to do a factory reset erasing everything he had, would this still invalidate my entry to Nintendo Events?

Macho man!
You probably still couldn't get in. But, I'm not sure. You should just buy your own from a place like EB Games or something that isn't used.

Eh... I don't really feel like getting 4 new GBA games though... my Ruby/Sapphire are also traded to me...

Does anyone have an official answer from Nintendo?

The PokeMaster!
Sorry if this is in the wrong place, but a guy used a Slaking Lv. 100 against me in a Nintendo Event. The weird thing was, it was sent out in a Master Ball! Fishy? You bet, seeing as nobody in their right minds would use a Master Ball on a Slakoth. He wasn't new to Pokemon either, seeing as he
flogged me...

theoreticly a factory reset should fix up any problems caused by a cheat device, unless there are glitches that are still showing up at a later stage even after a factory reset and after all cheats have been removed. most cheats use the save file that is erased once a F/R is done.

It's possible he got it from a trade.

Well, either way, it's almost definitely a cheated Slaking. If nothing else .. who uses their Master Ball on a Slakoth?!

I don't have an answer for you, though .. I've never gone to a Nintendo promotion, let alone played a legal copy of any Pokemon game (yeah, yeah .. I know ...).

maybe the slakoth was a accidental catch >.> i caught a magikarp in a masterball in my ruby buy accident and ive been playing pokemon since i was 6

almost the 7th year aniversery on christmas ^_^

my friend got into the mew event and got mew and he had infinite amsterballs >.<

I think a factory reset would validate your game.

About the Slakoth, is it possible to use the cloning glitch on a Masterball? I never used it so I don't know, but that would technically allow them to catch Slakoth in a Masterball.

Of course you can clone Master Balls. It's no different than cloning any other item.

Pardon me for sounding stupid, but what is a factory reset?

And if I went to one of those events but didn't use any of my cheated pokemon, would i still be disqualified?

fuk yo couch ***** !
a factory reset normally does the trick. i dont think ive heard of any cases where it hasnt worked anyway, so you should be okay with it. if not, well, you'll probably need a new cart.

Yes you would, because if you advance far enough, they eventually send in your cart to be tested. They would easily spot the cheating. And a factory reset is holding down all the buttons at the startup of the game, and then saying "Yes" when confronted with the reset question.

My guess is it would validate it, but I don't know the first thing about official tournaments and stuff like that

Ok I got an official answer from Nintendo:

Nintendo said:
Hi,

When erasing the save file, the detection of cheat devices is also removed from the save file. Essentially, erasing the save file brings the cartridge back to the same condition is was when it was new.

Guess a factory reset would do the trick ;)

So I wonder why a normal reset (new game) wouldn't erase cheating?
