First scene: Eevee in a random lab imitating other Eeeveelutions (like Sylveon and Vaporeon). Two scientists try giving Fire Stone and Electric Stone to Eevee. Eevee touches each stone, and starts glowing, but then nothing happens. The scientists are puzzled as to why Eevee doesn't evolve.

Goh asked Koharu why doesn't catch a Pokemon of her own, she says she already has Yamper (Goh implies that doesn't really count). Also she says something about being a Pokemon professor's daughter, probably because of people expecting her to love Pokemon/catch Pokemon for that reason? Not entirely sure.

Yeah, this Eevee's quirk appears to be mimicking other Pokemon. It mimicks Yamper's behavior too.

The lab people are chasing after Eevee, Yamper helps Eevee escape and leads it to Koharu. Koharu helps Eevee hide from the lab people.

Goh helps Koharu, it seems that both Koharu and Goh thinks the lab people look very fishy/suspicious.

The Eevee can't evolve it seems, in case anyone was curious about who was gonna show off G-max Eevee it's definitely Chloe

This is interesting to me because now that we're applying this rule from the games Pikachu literally can't evolve either, which makes all his development kinda odd in retrospect but obviously this isn't a complaint and more to do with an inevitable quirk as the franchise develops. Like Pikachu and Ash were in a fuss over nothing this whole time lmao

Koharu caught Eevee inside a Pokeball, it's her first official Pokemon.

Also it appears they drew parallels between Eevee and Koharu when it comes to "evolving", and the various possibilities the future holds for them (what kind of person Koharu can become in future and what Eevee can evolve into in the future).

The Rocket Gatchat not working and so TR using Pelliper to fight was the best part of the episode LMAO, tops the blaziken takes care of the torchic food gag for me hehe
Also Eevee is so cute and Chloe really looks great with her, glad she captured it
BUT the most IMPORTANT thing
RETURN OF TR PITFALLS
Omg its been so long since they have been used lol it was funny
This episode on a whole was really wholesome, funny and cute. The epitome of Pokemon :)

PS: Anyone know why Goh went to school today lol? Nice to see Renji helped him with schoolwork

Eh, until the show says Pikachu can't Evolve, I'm considering this a one-off.

Overall I enjoyed the episode, but I think it would have been even better without the Team Rocket segments. They could have dedicated a bit more time to Koharu deciding that she's okay with being a trainer, would have made it much more impactful.

But I'm definitely glad there's actually some meaning behind Eevee being given to Koharu (and not just marketing reasons).

I disagree, TR were hilarious and really fun in this episode, plus Chloe and eevee interactions are a guarantee for coming episodes. After so long it felt Journeys really properly captured TR's charm

I wonder if Eevee can't evolve permanently, or maybe they make it like a mental thing, like Eevee doesn't know what it wants to become, and they play it that way until Koharu decides on her own goal too. And then Eevee will also finally evolve into its desired form.

Na im pretty sure it physically cant evolve
If pokemon can choose to evolve by touching stones Pikachu wouldnt have to worry about the thunderstone

ash too ngl he felt pretty irrelevant I don't think anything would be lost if he wasn't there but as you've said good ep

yh i really think it may be a one off thing, I'd like to believe that's the case anyway

So I think I might be right, it does look like this Eevee is based on the LGPE games. It can't evolve and idk but it seems to be able to use moves it shouldn't be able to which makes me think that it might be using the special Eevee moves which it will learn by trying to mimic other pokemon.

I know Koharu called it Spark but it looked completely different to Yamper's and there's just no way for Eevee to use Spark. The only thing that goes against this theory is that in the games Buzzy Buzz is a special move but idk maybe the anime will take liberties.

Edit: Apparently Bulbapedia says it's using copycat hence why it used Spark. This makes more sense lol.

Anyways, I loved how the connection with Eevee and Chloe was instant, like when they couldn't stop staring at each other. Chloe finally understood what it meant to truly love a pokemon. Yes she bonded with Yamper as well but the relationship feels different here.
