Just a quick question; what's a good, safe and effective way of cleaning a GBA's game port, or whatever you call the place where the game goes.

no, don't blow in stuff, when you blow spit particles come from your mouth, over time this can pretty much kill your consoles, I recommend trying to find a PC shop that sells cans of compressed air, thats the best way to fix things.
