You know, that's saddeningly true. I remember when I first came here in late 2004. I got all these friend offers from people I didn't even know, and not for any reason apart from the fact that I was new here and could use an E-Friend. That was very considerate of anyone. Obviously, since I can't become new again, I can't honestly say if that still happens, but I have a funny feeling that it doesn't.
The reason? Cliques, most certainly. I'm amazed that some people haven't noticed the divisions in people here. Prior to 2006, the only group of people I can remember were the comical Shippings involving ten or so people, and even then, new folks were added into the group all the time. Now, people are much more concerned with their existing friends than making new ones, and thus, a lot of newbies don't get the chance to make new friends. And heavens help the newbie who PMs a 'veteran member', considering 90% of the time, they'll receive a harsh answer and a demand not to be bothered by the person anymore.
It's a shame that so many people have adopted that, "Don't know you, don't care what you think" attitude, but ah well, I guess that's the way the cookie crumbles =/
...Heh, that post came out a little bit more elaborate than I had been intending ^^;; My point is that apathy and sardonic remarks are cool on the Internet right now, and a lot of cliques form because one of the anal members finds another anal member who makes them laugh.
