Hey folks, Absolutely loving this thread, just like I enjoyed the thread in the Competitive 5th gen section a few months ago. I mostly lurk here, but this was just too good.

And as to the topic, Here on serebii as well as other forums, I have seen a lot of hate for Smogon and its users/tiers/mods/forums etc in general. Sometimes the poster tries to justify this with a "they do the same to us" comment, accusing smogon users of using the term "serebii noob".

I thought I would just add that for at least a year now (maybe more), AFAIK the smogon forum has had a policy of infractions for using that term. Do a search in their forums for "serebii noob" and you will receive a handful of returns, the majority of which are before 2010. The latest is only on the 6th feb, and as you can see, was shut down pretty fast.

There are more uses of the term "serebii noob" here on these forums, and on others than smogon's.

Most of the hate is made up from misconceptions, bad experiences with players using sets found on smogon, and just a little splash of wilfull ignorance. Not just on serebii, but more universally (well on pokemon sites anyway). This changes when experience is gained, and maturity is gained.

just for kicks i battled red in SS with 'steal pokemon' hack on. I took his blastoise and it's name was BadEgg. idk if that's the same thing lol

Same thing for me on Diamond, except with Barry's Empoleon. I prominently turned off the game, and I never hacked Pokemon again.

Diz tends to dislike those who know what they are talking about. -_-

It's still your choice if you want to follow smogon's policies.
/thread.

A Bad Egg doesn't exists in a non-hacked game, you'll probably want to restart your as the egg most likely will not hatch

Yes, you can.

PRNG manipulation only allows you to do things you could normally do anyway.

What are the odds? Moreso than finding a shiny Pokemon, which RNG can do too. It's not the fact you could do it, its that you can do it extremely fast, and consecutivly, which you alone can't do.

Doesn't matter. Your point was that it was impossible; it's not.

Encountering any Pokemon is using the PRNG. PRNG manipulation allows you to predict the exact sequence you need to go through to obtain a flawless Pokemon, which is the same end result as encountering 900 million Pokemon and releasing the 899,999,999 that you don't use.

So many people are ignorant, that is what causes the uneeded hatred towards Smogon. It's as plain as that. They don't understand that Smogon uses a fair system, and that tiers are used not to stop you from using your favourite pokemon but to make the battles more fair. Playing competitivly means you want to win the game not just have a casual battle with friends. You need to see who is the best battler, and if you consistently use pokemon like Kyogre when fighting a Scizor what will that prove? You need rules for a metgame like Pokemon to be enjoyable otherwise your wins are just transparent.

Smogon is a secular site and isn't elitist any sort of way. A lot of other pokemon have adapted to use their system as it is good and the norm in many cases. You don't need to be related with smogon in anyway when battling on a cartridge. Pokemon Online is a programme specifically tailored for Smogon. Smogon is a community made for themselves, there is no reason to hate if you don't like how they play. You associate with smogon on your own will.

On another note if you don't know what the difference is between a competitive battle and a casual battle I advise you not to voice your opinion.

I believe I saw a quote somewhere that someone might have even put on this thread that went like "when no one was looking I moved my monopoly piece three spaces foward, but I didn't use my action replay so its ok."

,-, not to start an argument but really if your going to spend all this time doing all these little details then why not hack? its much easier IMO, although I've never rnged. I read about it though, and it looks difficult.

I've never heard of one either but if it's 'bad' then let it hatch and then release the pokemon via the PC :).

Basicly bad egg is nintendoes way of saying "DONT USE THIS" XD I recall my friend used to get bad eggs all the time because he hacked. There's no way to get rid of it as far as I know, and I used to hack, so..

It doesn't hatch- I tried. and if you go into battle with it your game freezes. D: that was funny sending out an egg though. xD

I wouldn't forgive them if they cheated/hacked in the perfect Pokemon, which is a shiny and somehow has about 50 pp for each move n such, but I would forgive them if they hacked a pokemon in that they wanted but would not be able to obtain.

No offense, but this is signature-worthy. :D

Bad Eggs are gotten by:

1. Having a pokemon who's ID number doesn't exist, such as #958
2. 32 IVs I guess.
3. Glitch Dx

Once when I was little, I had an Action Replay. So I tried a bit of hacking in Ruby so I could get Kyogre. I ended up with an entire box of Bad Eggs and level 2 Rattata. This is why you should not hack, and avoid trading with hacking pokemon. Always check to see if it's legit.

What are you talking about? They've had effort points since before you were (probably) born. Your logic really astounds me. They ASSIGN pokemon in the game effort values and then YOU DEFEAT them to gain said points. The whole system was purposely put into the game to be used, which is why they have a CHECKER just for that. (And they have, since like, Hoenn.)

There is no way that you can prove EV'ing is cheating. While RNGing, on the other hand...

So don't try to "drag" EVing down by making it seem dirty when in reality you can't think of an excuse to prove that RNGing is cheating/not cheating.

You are an imbecile. Please re-read your post before you make yourself look more stupid.

If you ask me, Cheating is obviously forgivable because people in the competitive leagues allow RNGing, which is cheating whether you like it or not, as well as Cloning. You can't find a flawless in the wild by yourself, therefore, you manipulate the game with an outside mechanism (Timer/whatever) which then tells you when you'll find it. Abusive cheating at it's finest. Also, cloning is obvious. You do an in-game activation of a glitch that allows you to get a replica of the original Pokemon. Nah, you can't normally do that.

Prove it. Or at least explain, cause your example was stupid.

Battling random opponents you're bound to get at least 1/2 of everyone cheating, so I don't really care. No harm done, it's just a videogame.

There really shouldn't be any argument here.. Some people hate Smogon, some people love it. It's not a big deal, and people shouldn't need a reason for liking it or disliking it. Personally I don't care about it either way.
