Has anybody in this thread ever stated they haven't play the new games but they still hate them?

As I said earlier, in one of the many recent "moan and whine about new Pokemon" threads, it was stated several times over.

But the other things I'm talking about over shadow the main goals.

No they don't.

"The metagame" is a fan made invention that doesn't impact the in-game journey one iota. Considering that the "metagame", and by that I'm discounting the official tournaments, largely takes place on battle simulators, it is ridiculous to think that what happens largely on battle simulators and a handful of battling-specific websites affects how the Japanese game makers make their game.

"Fighting the mascot Pokemon" has been happening since Gen I, depending on which starter you chose. When you played Red, did it "ruin" the game if you chose Bulbasaur and ended up fighting against Blue's Charizard?

"Mini games" completely optional. Feel free to ignore them. Many of them are restricted to local wireless anyway, which is something that works in density heavy populations like much of Japan and not so much in the more spread out populations of Europe and the US. Also have been around since Gen I in the form of the casinos.

"Busy work activities"-...again, don't do them.

Not a single one of these actually impacts the "main goal" of Pokemon, which is going on a journey (via the 8 gyms and the E4, for most people) with your favorite Pokes.

Is there some other main goal that I'm missing?

When have you ever been forced to EV train a Pokemon in the game in specific stats? I must've missed that part.

I Sure the main goals are there but you barely have any motivation to them and though you can avoid some of the "side" goals some them are just unavoidable.

Like?

If that activity is boring you won't want to do it and then all it does is make you wonder why they didn't put in something more entertaining or engaging or having to do with the actual plot.

Just because you don't like it doesn't mean no one does. I've never been into Contests or Pokethlon. Instead of complaining that they get included, I go do one of the several activities in Pokemon I do enjoy.

Oh course they do, that's how most game companies get people to come back time after time. Why do think Game Freak keeps trying to balance Pokemon and give them new overly complicated attacks, items and abilities? So people will have a reason to make a team in the new games rather then making one in the old games.

No, most Pokemon gamers are picking up the games for the first time. The "returning" fans are just a cherry on top that just so happen to be more vocal online since online demographics skew heavily to teenagers and 20 somethings. The reason old Pokemon get updates is because that is what they've been doing since Gen II. Considering that the vast majority of the Pokemon fandom doesn't even know what an "IV" is and that the in-game hints of the complex formulas that are behind Pokemon are just that, it is clear Pokemon's games aren't affected by the "metagame" one bit.

So from the sound of it, the only thing you've ever liked about Pokemon is the 8 gyms E4 Champion journey. If that is all you like, then stop playing after that's over! Not every game is going to enthrall you forever.

I love BW, they were the only games with a storyline so far...
Oh, and how the **** is Ducklett a cartoon character?
By that logic, they all are.

Every game has had a storyline.

I suppose the user is referring to Donald Duck, or Daffy Duck, or one of the many Duck cartoon characters...of course that really means nothing, Animals are commonly used to make characters out of...and when I say "commonly" I mean...I mean seriously there are just so many shows out there with Animals being used as cartoon characters, but again, that means nothing for Ducklett, just because it's a Duck and there has been Duck cartoon characters doesn't mean it's a cartoon character, if so then nearly all Pokemon are cartoon characters(...Well technically they are, Pokemon has an Anime, nearly all Pokemon are shown in the Anime, but I suppose that's not really the point). Ducklett is a Pokemon in the end though, all Pokemon are Pokemon, trying to say one isn't is just ridiculous.

Well.....I like Gen 5, but Gen 4 is just....predictable. I was sitting one day trying to think of animals that they haven't made Pokemon for. I thought beaver, skunk, scorpion, and rabbit. Then they made those in Bibarel, Skuntank, Drapion, and Lopunny. That just was not fun to be able to know what they were about to do. Gen 5 was better since the Pokemon were based on concepts rather than animals.

Wouldn't Eevee sort of count as a rabbit?

So you only thought of 4 Animals never used? That's it? Or did you compose a larger list of which plenty ended up not being used?

I'm pretty sure there is a list somewhere around going over all Animals never being used, they are obviously going to use new Animals each generation, it's not predictable, there's nothing to predictable other then "They'll use an Animal they haven't used before, which is a lot".

Generation 5 had a ton of Animal based Pokemon, just like all of them had. Generation 5 brought a:
Prairie Dog/Chipmunk/Meerkat/Groundhog(Patrat and Watchog)
Leopard or something of the sort(Liepard)
Pigeon and some other Birds not used before(Pidove and it's line)
Zebra(Blitzle and Zebstrika)
Centipede(Venipede and it's line)
Bass(Basculin)
Hermit Crab(Dwebble and Crustle)
Archaeopteryx/Caudipteryx/Velociraptor(Archen and it's line).
Chinchilla(Minccino and it's line)
Swan(Swanna)
Flying Squirrel(Emolga)
Electric Eels/Lampreys/Bublapedia lists a few things(Tynamo and it's line)
Polar Bear(Cubchoo and Beartic)
And some others that I can't bother listing, left out most different species of Animals as well(In other words, I left out Lillipup despite it being based on a different breed of Dog, like wise with Woobat and Bats, among others).

I like Gen 5 but some of the designs like Vanilitte or Klank are just plain weird. I never actually imagined theyd make a PKMN with non-animated objects, nya~

Is weird suppose to be bad or something?

Haven't we had non-animated objects since the very beginning? And haven't we gotten new ones each generation?

Nostalgia, probably. And I totally understand it.

I'm a Gen I child (first game was Yellow, saw the first episode of the anime when it premiered, etc.) For the longest time I stayed that way, only dealing in Gen I and II games (and Gen III for a short time), and basically shunning the rest (as did most of my friends). People of a certain age like me (20-24 year olds) tend to like the original series better, simply because we grew up with them, and we have the fondest memories with those games. But, having an open mind is good, too.

Last year, I decided to check out the BW anime, and you know what? It's actually pretty fun! Some of the Pokemon in Gen V, I admit, look unusual, but so do some in the previous gens. But some of them look awesome. Like Braviary, an awesome Eagle Pokemon that looks mad patriotic. Cofagrigus, a Pokemon that looks like an Egyptian sarcophagus? So excellent! And Vanillish. He's an ice cream Pokemon! How epic is that?
I think that if you open yourself up to new things, you just might like it. I'm getting my first DS later this week, and getting Pokemon Heart Gold with it (to ease myself into Gen IV). Later this year, I'm jumping straight in, feet first, into Gen V. Can't wait to start that brand new adventure! :)

Eeeeeeexactly. As you can see, every generation has Pokemon based on inanimate objects.

Generation 1: Geodude, Graveler, Golem, Magnemite, Magneton, Grimer, Muk, Voltorb, Electrode, Exeggcute, Koffing, and Weezing.

Generation 2: Pineco, Forretress, and Corsola.

Generation 3: Seedot, Lunatone, Solrock, Baltoy, Claydol, Chimecho, Beldum, Metang, and Metagross.

Generation 4: Drifloon, Drifblim, Bronzor, Bronzong, Magnezone, and Rotom.

Generation 5: Roggenrola, Boldore, Gigalith, Trubbish, Garbodor, Vanillite, Vanillish, Vanilluxe, Ferroseed, Ferrothorn, Klink, Klang, Klinklang, Litwick, Lampent, Chandelure, and Cryogonal.

Okay, I admit, Generation 5 has the most inanimate objects. But I still can't see why people are complaining about them. Some inanimate Pokemon have nice designs, and others have great stats and movepools (such as Ferrothorn and Chandelure). Plus, every generation has at least SOME Pokemon based on inanimate objects. So why the complaints, Genwunners?

I like to use my favorites. And, unfortunately, I have strange tastes in favorites and most of them are in the NU tier: Articuno, Pidgeot, Meganium, Unfezant, Liepard, Quagsire, etc. Therefore, people wonder why I use them, but I don't battle competitively anyways so that doesn't matter. As long as I can use my favorite Pokemon in-game, I'm happy. That's why I don't battle competitively - I can't use my favorites.

Lulu_used_SunnyDay

Petal Blizzard
Stunfisk, Emolga, Madibuzz, Simipour... and many others XD

I use Charizard and Serperior
Yeah, those as well. can understand Charizard that's weak, but Serperior besides being cool is also pretty strong :p

Probably the most powerful attack dealt by the most unlikely of pokemon...

I recently thought of this set,

Smeargle ;235;

Moveset:
Spore
Belly Drum
Stockpile
Spit Up
Item: Focus Sash

I thought this would work because since Smeargle can put almost anything to sleep, he would have enough time to stockpile 3 times, belly drum for max attack, and spit up for 300 base power + STAB Bonus. this would easily be able to kill most opponents who aren't resistant to normal. If the pokemon wakes up before you stockpile the focus sash prevents smeargle from fainting and you can put them back to sleep.

K, Spit Up works offa Special Attack. Belly Drum works off of Attack. It isn't denting anything.

...And there's no way it's going to be able to Belly Drum because Smeargle needs that Focus Sash just to survive the first turn with another Pokemon.

...And Taunt... Sorry, but this just wouldn't work.

Fear Strategies are not what he's looking for; he's looking for stuff like Max Special Attack Heatran's Eruption in the Sun with Choice Specs.

Somebody's already figured out the most damaging attack, and it is a max power Rollout on a Max Def. Power Trick'd 10th turned Metronomed Shuckle on a Ledyba. I may have missed a few numbers, but the proper scenario does like 16 million damage.

Oh my.

Shouldn't this be in the Competitive section?
