Colosseum Animation < Stadium Animation ?

am I the only one who really thinks most of the battle animation in Colosseum isn't as good as the animation in Stadium?
What I'm getting at, is that it seems like they really skimped on a lot of the animation in Colosseum. Sure the graphics are better, but some of the battle sequence is just lacking...
Examples:

-When a pokemon is frozen, it just gets blue sparkles around it. I remember they actually had a block of ice around them in Stadium.

-When pokemon exited the pokeball in Stadium, they each had a unique little entrance they did. in Colosseum, they just sorta pop out and stand there.

-Rain Dance and other weather conditions only come up for like 2 seconds, then they're gone until the turn starts again.

-Not part of animation, but the sound is REALLY lacking in Colosseum. In Stadium, if a large pokemon fell over, I remember it actually made a loud noise upon hitting the ground. Plus, attacks like screech and roar don't actually make any noise. Logic???

there's a lot of other situations, but i can't think of any others at the moment. it's not just me though, right?

Not really "unique", per se. The same animation was used for certain attack sequences as well.

Still, you're right. The Stadium Series was rich in details when it came to battles. And to be honest, those details were cool.

The Pokémon made a taunt when it came out. If a not-very-effective Move hit, the Pokémon would stand there, as if nothing had happened. Certain attacks were dumbed down (Most notably is Seismic Toss.). If there was any Weather, it'd appear while you were choosing Moves. And Freeze looked better.

And several attacks appear cut off. Even in XD. But most notably in Colosseum. Colosseum's Hydro Pump is awfully sloppy. Fly is glitchy and has the Pokémon standing in midair (A fault I attribute to the format change.). Thunderbolt is badly vectored in XD and appears cut when hitting some Pokémon or when taken by some camera angles (Use it on Murkrow. You'll see.).

You mentioned the sound, which is also true. However, I think that has to do with the fact that Factor 5, the company in charge of the sound in the Stadiums, stopped working with Nintendo or didn't provide their knowledge to those new projects. That's the likely reason behind the removal of the spiffied-up cries, the cronist and the overall better sound effects.

In short... you're not the only one. But bear in mind that Colosseum and XD hold a plot, several places and characters. Unlike the Stadiums, they don't focus solely in battles. Yes... rather sad. But it's a reason nonetheless.

XD's fainting animations skimped even more that Colosseum's, but they had better attack graphics. There were many things better about the graphics of the N64 games, they had some better attacks, weather staying while you chose the move and throughout the whole time and more. Basically what *Orion* said.

I for one miss the entrances a lot. At least if your pokemon got OHKO'd you got to see it do more than sit/stand/float/fly in one spot.

I also noticed in Colosseum and XD, the attack action only works if it'll hit.

Yeah! that was another thing I forgot, was that attacks only actually happened if they hit.

But you are right. the game is focused on the storylines mostly, so it makes sense if the battles aren't as tight.

I believe alot of the smaller details were removed to save time in battles for the story modes in XD and Colosseum. The Gameboy games had an option to remove animation for quicker battles, but you really can't do that with a 3D game, so they cut down on needless animations to make training/playing through the game go at a quicker pace. That makes sense when considering that XD's fainting animations were cut even shorter than they were in Colosseum. While the extra details were nice, they'd make playing through an entire battle heavy RPG a very tedious experience.

However, it would've been nice to have seen more animation in Colosseum's battle mode at the least.
