colosseum mode mt. battle help- earthquake or solarbeam?

Okay, right now in my colosseum game, in colosseum mode, in mt. battle i am in area 7. I'm trying to get ho-oh, but that's not the point. I read a guide at gamefaqs.com, and it said that the Mt.Battle Master has a kyogre.

I have my groudon with me to help me through it, and it knows earthquake and solarbeam. I want to use it against the kyogre, but which is more powerful?

a STAB'ed earthquake with high attack power?

OR

a super effective solar beam?

which should i use? i heard that groudon's solarbeam devestates kyogre, but i'm not sure whether to use it or earthquake. Which should i use for maximum damage?

Its easier to use Thunder on Kyogre(my Raikou took it down in one hit with that and the drizzle abilty helped) but if you don't have it, go with Solarbeam. It's basic attack is higher than Earthquake's plus it will do 2X damage instead of 1.5X. Just be careful if your Groudon's faster then the Kyogre. In that case, Kyogre's drizzle will be in affect instead of Groudon's Drought, causing Solarbeam to take two turns to charge instead of one and the damage to be cut in half(I think). Also, if Groudon's attack is much higher than its special attack, it might be better to go with Earthquake. And go by Kyogre's defenses too(since I don't have a guidebook with that info I don't know which is higher). I wish you luck in beating Mt. Battle.

Hmmmm. I'd go with a STABed Quake over Solarbeam---Groudon's attack power is very high compared to its special attack, and Kyogre's special defense would render Solarbeam a bit weak on it.

Really, either tactic can work.

well, i'm using groudon/kyogre/rayquaza for this challenge. kyogre has thunder, but i want to beat his kyogre with my groudon. Rayquaza's at a serious risk if his kyogre has ice beam, and i don't want to waste my kyogre since it's the main sweeper on my team. groudon is expendable, since it's going to get beaten anyway, so i might as well make the most use of it. could an earthquake 1HKO his kyogre though?

Hmm...
I think u should first get Kyogre against it and use thunder.
If it faints, send out Groudon, and the sun will activate. And then u can kill off the rest of Kyogres HP with Solar Beam.
For me, it was easy to kill Kyogre, even without usin ubers...
Good luck, anyway =)

^Ditto. BTW, you do not have to use urbers to pwn kyogre. My haunter managed to kill it.

i have to be honest with you guys, i really just want to get it over with so i can get ho-oh. I know i'll get pokecoupon deductions, but i just want to get it over with so i can go back to XD. Thanks for your help everyone. I'll go with earthquake. This can be closed now.

They should be about the same.

Solarbeam would have higher base power because of weakness, but Groudon has lower Special Attack and Kyogre has higher Special Defence.

EDIT: I calculated the damage, using Groudon and Kyogre's max stats. Note that it will not be 100% accurate but it should give an idea of which one to use.

Earthquake: 156-183 damage

Solarbeam: 139-163 damage

I would go with EQ.

personaly it depends. When you go to battle the kyogre if the sun is shining brightly I would use solarbeam. Also it would help to give groudon a seed hold item( i think it was called miracal seed and raises grass power).

Good luck. That's what I'd go for too.
Although to be honest, I don't think it will matter which one you choose. Personally I think speed is the best ally in that last battle, regardless of what move, or even what pokemon you have in your team.

My 100th battle was far more dramatic than I had intended!
To cut a long story short, things went a bit pair shapped. After defeating the previous 99 trainers easilly, I accidentally lost my two pokes that had effective attacks against Kyogre in the first 30 seconds! I found myself left with a Blaziken who was only supposed to sweep away the 100th trainer's other pokes, and was never intended to actually face Kyogre.

Definietly not according to plan! especially when my sky uppercut missed. I knew the next hit would be super-effective and end my challenge (although I still had something like 94 continues), but then his Kyogre missed too!

My next attack fainted him and the rest is history.

The moral of this story.. EQ or SB.. either way I'm sure you'll be fine, just so long as you can get the drop on him.

The very best of luck with Ho-oh!

You wanna hear a story about a thrilling 100th Mt. Battle match? Easy, I can provide one.

Mt Btlmaster Infin. The guy with the Kyogre.......but he played it as the last of his three picks.

What did I have left when he brought the titan of water out?

A Milotic.

That's right, a Milotic and nothing else.

It went down to the ropes, my Surf versus his Body Slams......and thanks to the help of Recover, I barely managed a win.

is Infin the hardest trainer on Mt. Battle? Because i think Area leader 9 has all three regis, trainer 77 has a jirachi, and Area leader 8 has a groudon. I can handle groudon, since all three pokes of mine have surf/solarbeam, but is jirachi something to look out for?

I shouldn't think so... If I remember correctly it went something like:

ME: Flamethrower.
HIM: Wish.
Me: Flamethrower.
*Jirachi fainted*

There are overpowered sweepers, and then there are Blaziken ;)

i'm guessing the regi's won't be a problem either?

The regis can be a pretty big problem if you don't take them down early. I was almost beaten by I think Registeel, whichever one had Sandstorm, Toxic, and Iron Defense. It took down my Lapras and Raikou with those two residual damage moves and almost took out my Blaziken too. I would've lost if Blaziken's Sky Uppercut missed. I lost to Infin once because I switched my parlyzed Blaziken when Kyogre came out for Raikou, which was imediatly knocked out by a Hydro Pump, but I nearly swept the battle with only Raikou on the retry.
