Time for the next Pokémon of the Week. This time, we get a Unova Pokémon

It's Alomomola. This Pokémon isn't the most powerful Pokémon, but it's a great support Pokémon

    Go nuts
  2. SkyDriver

    SkyDriver Hiding in the grass

    Alomomola @ Leftovers
    252 Hp/252 SpD/4 Def

Epic fish has big walling capabilities, and passes huge wishes. Soak+Toxic let it poison every opponent badle, as well as getting rid of STAB that hits hard. Waterfall is STAB of choice, but Aqua Jet can be used to revenge kill (like 2% health only) and Wish is for wishpassing.

    Ability: Regenerator
    Item: Leftovers
Moves: Aqua Ring, Waterfall, Safeguard, Wake-Up Slap
  4. Sala-imence

    Sala-imence Rock type trainer

    Item: Leftovers
    Nature: Impish
    EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 Atk
    Ability: Regenerator
    - Aqua Jet
    - Wish
    - Tickle
    - Protect

Wish combined with tickle makes for good recovery. Or just switch to heal another pokemon as well as yourself thanks to regenerator. Tickle can force switches and make it easier for your teamates to set up. And aqua jet takes down any sturdy pokemon.

    Rain support

    Alomomola @ Wet Rock
    Careful nature
    Ability: Hydration / Regenerator
    252 Def, 252 Sp.Def, 4 HP
    -Rain Dance
    -Rest / Waterfall / Toxic
    -Rest / Waterfall / Toxic

If you have team mates that can benefit from rain, Alomomola can set it up. Wish is good support with your massive HP stat. Rest is instant full recovery in rain with Hydration, Toxic can be used to inflict damage, and Waterfall if you want to have an option under Taunt, and in rain it might actually do damage as well. Run Rest with Hydration, Regenerator if you don't run Rest.

Alomomola is quite unique in NU in this role as a bulky rain dance setter. It has the bulk to set up Rain Dance multiple times in a match, and unlike other bulky waters in NU like Lapras or Walrein Alomomola it is not Stealth Rock weak, and it has additional Wish support, which is its niche over Phione. Wish can set up rain dance sweepers like Shell Smash Carracosta or Curse Bibarel if they've been weakened previously to allow them another go.

    A troll in NU...

    Alomomola @ Leftovers

    Bold/Impish nature
    Ability: Regenerator
    EVs: 252 HP/DEF, 252 HP/Sdef, at your choice
  7. LC-Vulpix

    LC-Vulpix anti-weather trainer

    double/triple battle support
im surprised no1 put this already.
    item: left overs
    ability: healer/regenerator
    - helping hand
    - heal pulse
    -wide guard
    -wish/soak/aqua ring/safe guard

completely support. wide guard is a monster in double/triples, as it stops your whole team (or maybe just 2 in triples depending on the position of alomomola (will edit when i find out) from being hurt my earthquake, surf, rock slide(who ever uses it anyway). this would also be a great counter to the more increasingly common cresselia + garchomp double battles.
the last option depends on your team and your ability:

-if your using the ability healer, safeguard is a no although it could still be used, as healer heals your allies from status (33% chance), but it doesn't heal yourself.
    - aqua ring could be helpful to heal off any damage dealt to your during the turns wide guard is 'recharging' since its like protect.
    - wish+ regenerator for what people have previously said, heal an ally on the switch, and heal yourself on the switch.
    - soak, useful if your partner carries toxic, although just partner it with a earthquake user, but it does help if your opponent is a flying type, remove the typing, they get hurt by earthquake.

Also, as extra options, there's pain split, magic coat (anti-taunt move), an offensive set(physical or special, but the latter requires alot of effort to set up), knock off, bounce, even mirror coat which reflects attacks that hit its weaker side.

counters: taunt.... taunt any set, and he/she/it will struggle(literally), no more wish passing, no more supporting, no more stat boosting, no more 'helping hand', taunt basically shuts alomomola down. spikes and stealth rock also hurt alomomola, making wish passing more dangerous, toxic in general stops alomomola that isn't using regenerator. AKA the normal counters to bulky pokemon.

also note. it isn't an illegal set this time(yay!)

    Moves to consider:
-Substitute - Alomomola's Minimum Level 100 HP with a 0-3 HP IV and 0 HP EVs is 440, so 101+ HP Substitutes are always happening with Alom'.
-Pain Split - Being as beefy on HP as you are, a low-HP use of Pain Split on something like Snorlax, Chans-Eviolite, or Blissey will get a major chunk o' your health back.
-Aqua Ring - A Leftovers effect on something with that much HP that actually stacks with Leftovers.
-Wish - Starting to see a pattern with Alom's huge HP Stat yet?
-Toxic - You don't have much in the way of offense, so you may want to fling Status Effects.
-Soak - To make sure Toxic sticks and that you negate STABs and immunities. Try using it on your allies, too - a Rock/Ground Type, Rock/Fire Type, or Ground/Fire Type changing to a Water Mono-Type is a good way to stick it to your opponent in Doubles/Triples if they plan on spamming Surf.
-Dive - Why this is considered when you have Waterfall and/or Aqua Jet? Stalling for Toxic or Wish, of course.

About the last PoTW (going off-topic)

Who wrote this is a genius, the set descriptions were so hilarious.

Now for this PoTW, am I the only one thinking Alomomola should be the evolved form of Luvdisc?

Ah, the Luvdisc ripoff. Unlike Luvdisc, this one is a great wall, with that massive HP stat.

    Nature: Calm/Careful
    EVs: 252 HP, 252 SpD, 4 def
Moves: Soak, Toxic, Scald, Aqua Ring
    Ability: Regenerator
With Alomamola (I know I spelled it wrong), It's like "TOXIC ALL THE THINGS!" Soak allows you to Toxic them annoying steels and get rid of your opponent's STAB. Aqua Ring is to stack with Lefties and in case yopur HP is getting low, switch out and get a third back.
  11. Monster Guy

    Monster Guy Fairy Tale Man

    Alomomola @ Leftovers
    Trait: Regenerator
    EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SpD
    Impish Nature
    - Wish
    - Toxic
    - Protect
    - Waterfall

Wish support and Toxic stalling in one set. Between Toxic, Protect, and Wish, your opponents will scream in frustration. Waterfall is there so you're not Taunt bait. Useful in NU, where there aren't many Steel types to get in the way. (NU only has six Steel types.)

Wow. Um... What purpose does this creepy thing serve? Physical wall? Yeah, let's go with that.
Outside of OU, this creepy-looking thingamajig isn't bad at being a physical wall. But, really? This?
Healer - Unless you are in Doubles or Triples, this is a 100% waste.
Hydration - Can be fun on rain teams, but your third option is way better.
Regenerator - I think we all have come to the agreement that this ability is one of the game's best. As a Wish passer, Alomomola loves it.

The only thing Alomomola will ever do to have a fulfilling lifestyle:
    Nature: Impish/Careful
    Ability: Regenerator
EVs: 252 HP and special defense, 4 defense
    @: Leftovers/Lum Berry

    Aqua Jet

Not much of a movepool, but enough to make this set. Wish is the bread and butter of Alomomola's success. Protect ensures Wish safely heals Alomomola if you don't decide to switch. Toxic is something to do and Aqua Jet is there for two reasons. 1) to not be Taunt bait. 2) to shave off that last little bit of HP when needed.

Other Options: (believe it or not, there are a few)
A set built around Healing Wish can be attempted. Good luck with that though.
Refresh cures status if you lack something with Heal Bell or Aromatherapy.
Safeguard PREVENTS status for your team.
Scald can spread Burns. This is actually not a bad alternative to Toxic. Not a good one either though.
Knock Off can mess with people.
  13. Liltwick

    Liltwick Life Cheating Game

We have Alomomola this week, one of those Pokemon that have a Palindrome for there names, others include Ho-Oh and Girafarig, but we're not here to talk about a Giraffe or flying phoenix/turkey thing.... We're here to talk about one of the best walls in NU (IMO), the giant, heart shaped, fishy blob Alomomola!

    Bread & Fish Butter
    Alomomola (F) @ Leftovers
    Trait: Regenerator
    EVs: 252 HP / 8 Def / 248 SDef
    Careful Nature (+SDef, -SAtk)
    - Waterfall
    - Wish
    - Toxic
    - Protect

This is Alomomola's standard walling set, it doesn't seem like much, but it's effective. The EV spread is there to give maximized defensive support, even though being arounf the two-hundreds isn't a great thing, it can tank a lot of the weaker attacks in NU, but will really struggle in OU to take these hits with out team support from the likes of Ferrothorn or Amoongus, but if you want a Physical-Pseudo Blissey, here's your choice.

Waterfall is our main attacking move here, playing off Alomomola's higher attacking stat, it won't deal to much damage but it's there to just make it not be taunt bait, and can hit some Pokemon, Like Shell Smash Toarkal, pretty hard. Wish is what makes Alomomola one of themost useful Pokemon in NU, next to it's ability Regenerator. THis combo allows Alomomola to set up a wish for her teammates and then recover health while you have a weakened teammate come in being able to take the wish, making her very useful, and forming the annoying Amoonmola core. Toxic is every wall's choice in a status move, and it cripples everything but Klinklang that even dares to attack it, but most people will try to kill it or at least taunt it. Though, Klinklang is banned from NU, making Alomomola able to go rampant in her water rampage of healing. Protect is there to stall out Toxic poisonings and getting free wishes.

Counters to this set are any grass-type that can hit hard, and fast. Victreebel comes to mind, able to absorb toxics like no tomorrow, and then counter with STAB Power Whip or Leaf Storm. If using Alomomola in upper tiers, Klinklang is an excellent counter in RU, and in OU and UU, she'll just get annihilated, so please keep her in RR/NU.

Mommy, can I be a special Fish?
    Alomomola (F) @ Leftovers
    Trait: Regenerator
    EVs: 252 HP / 8 Def / 248 SDef
    Calm Nature (+SDef, -Atk)
    - Calm Mind
    - Wish
    - Ice Beam
    - Scald

Her EVs are the same from the last set, as there her best Evs she can run, max HP for powerful wishes, and decent defenses, the only difference is her nature is calm, that's right this is the Rare Calm Mind Alomomola, which is useable

The gist of this set is to get around +4 with Calm Mind Boosts, which is pretty easy for Alomomola, and then proceed to start destroying the opponents team with the Water/Ice Combo, which is resisted by only Lapras and other of the typing. Scald is the preferred choice here, as it has reliable accuracy, unlike Hydro Pump, and a Burn chance, unlike Surf, even if it has less power. Ice Beam is to take care of Grass-types who think they can switch in and run over Alomomola, well unless it's Sawsbuck, then he will run over her. Wish is a stable on Alomomola sets, it allows free healing due to her giant HP.

Counters to this set included Sawsbuck, Liepard, and Victreebel. Both Sawksbuck and Victreebel can come in and hit hard on the physical spectrum, hoping to be able to kill her. Liepard can come in, Taunt, and make Alomomola fodder. THat's basically it for this set.

    Almomomla, the White Mage Fish
    Alomomola (F) @ Leftovers
    Trait: Regenerator
    EVs: 252 HP / 8 Def / 248 SDef
    Careful Nature (+SDef, -SAtk)
    -Helping Hand
    -Wide Guard
    -Heal Pulse

This is Alomomola's set for Doubles and Triple battles. Here her EVs are more useful then ever, as she'll most likely be double attacked, making her switch in and out game very important.

Helping Hand allows her partner Pokemon to get a huge boost during there next turn, so pokemon like Shell Smash Gorebyss would really love this boost to destroy the opposing pokemon. Wide Guard is to fend off common moves like Surf, Earthquake, and Heat Wave. Heal Pulse is actually useful, making her able to instantly heal her partner as well, and Waterfall is there if she has to attack.

Since doubles is different, she's going to have to handle a lot more threats. Trick Room teams, Ferrothorn, Sableye, the possibilities of what she's going to face is endless, so keep Alomomola safe, like your White Mage or whatever, as she'll be very valuable.

    Checks and Counters
Sawsbuck, Victreebel, Liepard, Klinklang, and most of UU/OU. They can come in, either OHKO her, debilitate her with statuses or taunt, or just use her as set up fodder. It''s not all hearts and roses for her as well.

    Other Options
Facade- If you want to run a wacky Physical set, this and Return are pretty much your only options
Psychic- On the calm mind set if you really need fighting coverage
Shadow Ball- For Misdrevous and Lampent, but that's pretty much it
  14. LukeS

    LukeS Some People

    Alomomola (M) @ Leftovers
    EVs: 252 HP, 252 Def, 4 Sp.Def
    Bold Nature (+Def, -Att)

This set puts particular emphasis on annoying the opponent. Back in the days when Amoonguss was NU, this set was your best chance of dealing with it. Soak changes the opponents type to water. Meaning that the opponents pokemon (even if steel or poison type) could be poisoned, unless the ability prevents it. Meaning that common walls in NU, such as metang, who are immune to toxic normally can still be poisoned by Toxic. Wish and protect are mainly there to just stall out for Toxic damage. With proper team support (mainly something to absorb the taunt), this set can be a tool of incredible annoyance.
  15. Dragonquester

    Dragonquester Fear the dragon

Put on a coat or you'll get soaked

Item:leftovers(combine with aqua ring for best effect)
    Mirror coat
    Pain split
    Soak/aqua ring/aqua jet
    Nature:calm(+ sp.defense,-attack),quiet(+sp.attack,-speed)

Pain split is good for healing if you're trying to outlast, or wish for more healing and no damage. Mirror coat can rebound most moves for high damage, and because of its huge health, it can take more damage and dish out more in return. Soak to screw up pokemon type advantages and STAB. Aqua ring can keep you alive just a little bit longer, particularly if used on the first turn in the fight, and aqua jet is for priority and gets STAB.

Bit of an insult if you ask me. To be honest, I'm glad Luvdisc doesn't evolve into anything. Keeps it into perspective of how non-viable it is aside from a source of Heart Scales. Alomomola has a huge HP stat and a large enough Movepool for its role - *Dr. Evil voice* Luvdisc don't.

Alom's biggest asset after HP has to be Regenerator, fins down. Use Wish to heal your ally by 50% of their Max HP and healing 33.333...% Max HP yourself is a huge asset. Full HP Pain Split an Ally in Doubles/Triples, then switch to have a net loss of 16.666...% Max HP to Alom' before your opponent's interference (a.k.a. the poor man's Heal Pulse).

Mirror Coat and low Sp.Def combined with that solid HP makes Alom' a poor man's Wobbuffet on a Special Countering set. Unlike Wobb', Alom' has access to recovery Moves and Regenerator.

Gimmicky Toxic Wall set I pulled out of my ***.

    Alomomola @ Leftovers
    Impish - Regenerator
    252 HP, 252 Def, 4 Sp. Def

The gimmicky combination of Soak+Toxic lets it Toxic stall anything in the tier not named Zangoose. Plus, Soak forces a lot of switches, so it's especially good with hazard support from the likes of Garbador. Wish+Protect is his best healing outside of Regenerator and also lets him scout for surprise Toxics. All in all, a fun set that lets him **** with his usual counters, but certianly no gem worthy of any use in higher tiers.

Also, I'd like to point out that he's clearly an instance of Gamefreak trolling us. "So, we made a Luvdisc evolution... But then we forgot to let Luvdisc evolve into it. Sorry!"
  18. Blue Harvest

    Blue Harvest Banned

Soak is useless. If you want a gimmick that also doesn't work but is SLIGHTLY better than Soak try CM Hydration.

Calm with 252 Special Defense / 252 Special Attack (or just 252 sp def / 252 defense if you don't care about damage output)

    Calm Mind
Ice Beam / Miror Coat / Knock Off / HP Fire / filler lol

With 252 SP Def and a Calm Mind Scarf Rotom W only does like 35% with Volt Switch. Even LO Celebi Leaf Storm isn't guaranteed a OHKO (meaning you can Rest the damage off back to full health). Hydration + Rest gives you immunity to status and a free 100% healing move. Scald is hella weak but with max Special Attack and Rain the damage is passable (comparable to Vaporeon's Scald though it becomes fairly destructive in the Rain after a CM).

You can even run Air Mail to completely **** with Trick. Losing Leftovers is tolerable when you have free 100% healing. USe it with Rain and Toxic Spikes and it can potentially wipe out an entire team on its own.

I find Alomomola to be a very successful Pokemon. I am inexperienced in the lower tiers, but in OU, I have a very defensive team that employs the following Alomomola:

    120 HP, 136 Def, 252 SpDef
    Careful (-SpAtk, +SpDef)
    Magic Coat/Mirror Coat/Knock Off/Light Screen/Protect/Safeguard/Aqua Ring/Refresh

As you can see, I struggled with many options in my last set. I stuck with Magic Coat has it helps reflect Taunt as well as other status moves. I could've very easily used Protect as so many other people have suggested, but I find I don't really need it. I've listed many other support options as well.

Contrary to what Blue Harvest said, I like Soak a LOT and it is my most frequently used move. It helps ruin STAB, in other words, dropping the power of opposing attacks by 33%. Also, by removing resistances, it can either exploit a new Grass/Electric weakness or allow Flying Pokemon to be struck hard by Fighting attacks (and likewise).
The most common usage, of course, is poisoning Steel and Poison Pokemon. Sure, if the opponent catches on, they might switch. However, this means an opposing Pokemon will have to switch into the Toxic. Of course, the opponent might have multiple Pokemon immune to Poison. In that case, I can actually spam Soak, making it similar to Yawn. This racks up hazard damage.

There are, of course, many other plausible options Alomomola can use, but I've had a lot of success with that set. In Doubles, you would use Healer and Heal Pulse. Alomomola could be used on a Rain team, but it'll seem outclassed. Otherwise, a Hydration set with Calm Mind has potential.

Scald is acceptable on any set if just for the burn rate. Otherwise, Waterfall is a passable attack. Other options include Tickle and Toxic.

Counters to Alomomola include Electric, Grass, and Water-types that can resist status.
  20. Divine Retribution

    Divine Retribution Well-Known Member

I have to disagree. Perhaps in OU (if one is dumb enough to use Alomomola in OU), HydraRest is better, but in NU, Soak+Toxic screws with his usual counters badly, plus HydraRest is invalid since there is no permanent rain in NU.
