Ah, Alomomola, why do you go unloved?

To be honest, I always saw this thing as a supporter, and I think that is what it's built for. Heal Pulse, Wide Guard, Helping Hand, Wish, Safeguard, Healing Wish, it has everything save for Heal Bell. I also think it could be proficient in doubles. What this thing really needs in order to hit top tier (at least in doubles) is telepathy.

This fellow can keep things like Heatran or Terrakion going for a long time, Blocking Blizzards and Earthquakes while buffing Rock Slides and Heat Waves. Heal Pulse and Healer keep your sweeper safe while he tears everything up, and Scald is a backup offensive manuver.

I have to disagree. Perhaps in OU (if one is dumb enough to use Alomomola in OU), HydraRest is better, but in NU, Soak+Toxic screws with his usual counters badly, plus HydraRest is invalid since there is no permanent rain in NU.

Soak Alomomola, like any form of Shuckle, is utterly useless in NU. Why try to get lucky and Toxic a Steel or Poison type when you can just use Wish and switch out, effectively granting one of your Pokemon a free Max Potion?

Now for this PoTW, am I the only one thinking Alomomola should be the evolved form of Luvdisc?

Almonola does not function like Luvdisc at all, and I'm talking about in-game here. Luvdisc is what it is....a disk of Love. NOTHING about Almonola screams love--it doesn't even learn Attract on its own...

Also, saying that Almonola should be the evolution of Luvdisc is like saying that Lapras and Gastrodon are related because they are both snails.

Lol, Alomomola and Luvdisc are both pink, symmetrical fish Pokemon shaped like hearts. Alomomola is also called the Caring Pokemon (which sounds a lot more love-like than the Rendezvous Pokemon). Seriously, if these two are related...

Hey, Power Trick Shuckle sweeps teams. Sometimes.

No, it doesn't, but whatever, lol. And Soak+Toxic still carries Wish, it drops Waterfall, which pretty much makes it Taunt bait. Not that it deals much damage with Waterfall...

I dunno. It's a pretty terrible Pokemon to use at all in OU (although I did mess around with your Calm Mind set on PS last night, I actually swept with it a couple times), but in NU you're better off running a wall set. You could try your set with Rain Dance or Sleep Talk in the last slot as sort of a pseudo-CroCune.

i agree. and CMhydration could be useful, since 2 CMs(+2 sp.atk) makes it sp.atk higher than its regular attack(about 130 base, since mamoswine attack is 130 base, and it has 396 attack.), and just makes it slightly more bulky on the special side, and hydrarest is bad against a weather team, since sandstorm/sun are getting more common.
it unfortunate cant learn SD, so unless u want to right swagger+ psych up, physical attack sets aren't really usable. not to say alomomola cant do it, it just requires too much support.
also, CMrest require you to use 2 move slots, so basically the other 1 (surf if almost a must) must be normal for the best coverage, since normal attacks are .5 against rock/steel, which water is x2 and neutral respectively.

attack:75 base
sp.atk:40 base
+2 max sp.atk = 392, which is kinda low compare to better power houses like mamoswine whose max attack with 0 buff

By the way, in regards to the discussion over Soak, you should never use Soak on Alomomola. It has almost no use whatsoever. Contrary to what some people have mentioned, it does nothing to beat things that Alomomola would usually have trouble with. Taunt still shuts you down, and it's even worse if you choose to run Soak over Waterfall. Substitute users now have an even easier time setting up all over you, and they're bad enough as it is. Powerful Electric and Grass types that could force you out with super effective STAB moves are generally vulnerable to Toxic even without Soak, and so you'd be best off hitting them with Toxic on the switch and then switching back out (or using that opportunity to pass a Wish to something else). The only two notable Pokemon in that group I can think of that aren't already vulnerable to Toxic are Roselia and Vileplume. Roselia has Natural Cure, so it really doesn't give a flip about being poisoned. Vileplume usually comes in one of two variants: cleric and offensive. The cleric runs Aromatherapy, so it doesn't care either. The offensive set OHKOs with Giga Drain unless you predict perfectly and use Soak on the switch, in which case it still 2HKOs. Offensive sets also occasionally run Aromatherapy as a filler move, and so you have to worry about that as well.

Like BH said, 99% of the time you'd be much better off just using Wish as the counter/check switches in and then passing a huge Wish to something else on your team. Even the remaining 1% of the time, you're running the risk of your Alomomola getting statused or taking heavy damage all for the opportunity to possibly using Toxic on a Steel or Poison type. I'd much rather have Waterfall to prevent from being Taunt bait and destroy the Subs of frailer Pokemon, or even Scald just for the chance to burn something.

Once introduced, I thought finally luvdisc will see some use, well it's evolved form at least... But no, alomomola is just another fish in the sea. In it's own right, alomomola has a great support potential. While it's attacking capabilities are majorly lacking, it's defensives ones are not and with a wide support movepool it often succeeds in what it was designed to do. To add to it's usefulness it's regenerator ability makes sure it survives longer and longer while messing with the opponent... I battled alomomola's before and they were a pain to take town especially when alomomola is your opponent's last pokemon and all you have is a pokemon that cannot hit it super effectively as they are the only way of getting rid of alomomola rapidly. (Crits also help).

Most alomomolas are used as wish passers, and toxic spreaders. And using alomomola in a different manner is just a waiste of it's potential. Alomomola can toxic an opponent's pokemon and stall them with wish, and protect until your opponent dies. Alomomola is fairly one dimentional as all the different ones you'll see will be in it's other options. Some run waterfall for a decent attack, but since it won't be doing a lot of damage anyways, and seeing alomomola's low speed, Aqua jet is arguably better for taking weakened foes that have less than 10% HP left as it bypasses it's speed and get's a clean KO. It works greatly with toxic/wish/protect too as you can finish an opponent when health has been drained with toxic before it has the time to attack the last turn if protect has been used the previous turn. Some also use soak for the fun of using it but most importantly to allow alomomola use toxic on steel and poison types... This strategy is fairly decent with steel types not named magneton, magnezone or ferrothorn with power whip. Magneton and notably magnezone can kill alomomola with their stab thunderbolts before it has the time to toxic them and ferrothorn while slower can set up hazards and leech seed on alomomola while she soaks or threaten to KO with power whip. While alomomola is a pokemon that is not majorly affected by status conditions (Burn and poison damage can be healed with wish/regenerator, toxic can be dealt by switching out, recovering some lost HP, and paralysis is not problematic due to alomomola's low speed anyways) leech seed have the ability of recovering opponent's pokemon by a lot of HP seeing alomomola's huge HP stat. Poison types are fairly manageable with soak... but... Soak's problem on alomomola is it's predictability. Your opponent will know that you soaked to toxic and switch out to another pokemon that can take the status effect like other steel or poison types or pokemon with immunity, poison heal or guts!

As a support pokemon, taunt shuts down alomomola completely 90% of the time. Forcing it to switch out while you set up... anything! Taking alomomola out is not that easy but a decently strong electric or grass type will usually 2HKO alomomola except if you were lucky enough to have a crit. Magnezone and magnetone are alomomola's biggest enemies each one in it's own tier as they wall alomomola completely. alomomola is hopeless in damaging those two... All it can do is switch out as even if it wants to wish might mean the end of it!
Substitute will be very troublesome for alomomola to break and you can set up safely behind it as she cannot do anything to you besides of wishing herself out! Toxic will eventually wear alomomola out especially if it was the last pokemon on your opponent's team. Starmie is a decent counter too as it can use thunderbolt to hit it fairly strong and switch out to cure any toxic it might have recieved. Celebi is also on the same boat as starmie... Coming to think about it, there are tons of pokemon that can take alomomola on... It is in lower tiers that the list becomes shorter. Sleep is also a way of shutting alomomola down if it's not running rain dance hydration sets. Butterfree can outspeed alomomola and put it to sleep with sleep powder. Amoonguss will usually force a switch and sporing the next switch in. Or, taking a weak hit from alomomola and sporing it instead or just giga drain it's HUGE HP. Prankster cottonee or whimsicott can taunt it, sub and leech seed on it. Klinklang is mentioned for it's access to electric type attack though magnetone is better in getting rid of alomomola... Ok... there are a lot of checks and counters to alomomola in every tier. If you can keep it from wishpassing you already countered it. You need to watch out from toxic as this pokemon can take even a super effective hit and toxic your pokemon. All this section can be simplified in just one word : TAUNT!

I am not sure if NU changed that much in the last 6 mounths, but I don't think there are enough steel and poison types to justify soak>scald/waterfall and anyway better burn them or damage them.
Well I can't think of ANYONE who didn't think alomola isn't luvdisc evolution. (<-there are probably grammar mistakes here)

OH, Hydrarest is awful too lol. The only Alomomola set I would ever use is defensive Wish (in any tier). Hydrarest isn't a serious set, its more for if you're bored and want to mess around on the ladder.

Is there any real reason to use Alomolomola in OU instead of Vaporeon or Slowbro? Because I can't think of any...

Edit: I suppose it's a matter of extreme niche. In OU, it's pretty much the only physical wall that gets wish, and can heal as it swaps out with it's DW ability. I guess it's kind of the odd one sitting in between the two.

To be fair, Alomomola is stupidly bulky on the physical side. She's far more physically bulky than Vaporeon, and she passes more substantial Wishes. Even Slowbro (and Skarmory, for that matter) can't quite measure up to Alomomola's bulk. She even has enough to escape a 2HKO from CB Terrakion with relative ease, and even a +2 LO Close Combat can't OHKO her. She's also not as frail specially as you might think. She does have enough special bulk to survive some weaker super effective attacks, such as non-boosted Rotom-W's Volt Switch.

Of course, people don't use Alomomola in OU for a reason. Besides Wish passing, she doesn't do much else. Even using her higher offensive stat, Waterfall is pitifully weak, which leaves her as pretty easy setup bait, especially for things like CM Latios and SubCM Keldeo. Scald can burn stuff, sure, but it's hilariously weak. At least Vaporeon has more balanced defenses, great SpA to make moves like Scald and Ice Beam much more useful, and Roar as an extra utility.

Alomolo-whatever isn't THAT bad in OU. The difference is that you have to be aware of the butt-ton of things that set up on it. This isn't actually as big of a deal as it is for other Wish passers because of Regenerator. With Leftovers paired with frequent switches (its main job is to pass Wish, NOT to sit there and wall forever) the sunfish can stay pretty healthy without really ever Wishing for itself.

What this means is that it is very, very good at Wish passing. Its main flaw is that it is setup bait for literally everything. A weak Waterfall + Toxic might slow down a Terrakion or some Latias but anything with a Substitute or something that can tolerate Toxic / isn't weak to Waterfall can switch in on it freely. Its other problems is that despite those defenses and healing ability it doesn't actually switch in on anything in OU besides Terrakion and Tyranitar. Virtually everything else in the tier that it COULD tank the hits from either sets up Spikes, or just Dragon Dances / Subs and kills it.

It does get Knock Off / Icy Wind / Light Screen / Tickle to slow down its counters but that doesn't get around the fact that the main things it switch in on actually beat it. A very good Pokemon in lower tiers, but slightly too sucky to be in OU. If its Special Attack and Attack were swapped it might see more use. Maybe in 6th gen it will get Whirlwind or... or even Haze.

Stall and Annoyence, thats this pok's trait.
I never used it, but I have expercience in Lower tier battleing and this set comes to mind.
Magic coat is an underated move and works excellent on Allomonala (or w/e u spell it) Since your opponent consider this pokemon as easy Taunt bait this is perfect to counter.
Wish is for support and toxic to slowly kill your oppponent, if it takes out an pokemon immune to poison just make sure you have an good partner for allomnala and switch it out.
Aqua jet is for revenge killing but if you seek power go for Waterfall.

I saw some posts about Soak + toxic combo.. But does that actually work? Once your opponent is soaked it will probably be switched out.
And what if an Poison pokemon gets soaked and toxic and switched out and later a while back, will the poison status be gone? Since it will get back its orginal poison type?

Well not much to tell, you have guts to use this pokemon.
