One of the generation 7 Mythical Pokémon, Magearna has had a far greater degree of success in doubles as opposed to its other mythical brethren thanks to the utter insanity that is Soul Heart. Unlike Beast Boost/Grim Neigh, which requires the user to knock out a target, Soul Heart triggers whenever a Pokémon on the field faints (besides the user of course). This allows Magearna to get out of hand very quickly, for not only can its partner knock out targets to get escalated, but Magearna's own teammate getting knocked out can make Magearna stronger as well. And that is fairly likely considering Magearna possesses the utterly busted Fairy/Steel typing, giving it a plethora of resistances to compliment its great bulk, making it difficult to take down without strong Ground or Fire attacks. And it has all the coverage it would ever desire, along with potent Speed control options in Electroweb and Trick Room. Expect to see a lot of Magearna in the final VGC format, for Magearna's abilities to runaway with games is unparalleled.

Magearna doubles set. Dazzling Gleam and Flash Cannon star as STABs, having fantastic power, Dazzling Gleam being an amazing Fairy type spread move while Flash Cannon's coverage is poor, it is a decent secondary STAB and strikes neutrally against other Steel Fairies like opposing Magearna and Zacian. Trick Room doesn't always need to be set, but can be a great way of disrupting opponents relying on Tailwind/Weather Sweepers. Protect rounds out the set, and is as always the best attack in a doubles format, scouting, stalling out beneficial conditions, etc. Pair Magearna with a strong partner able to pick up KOs quickly like Kyogre and Calyrex Shadow Rider, and Magearna will quickly escalate out of control with Soul Heart.
