Blazing Spirit
Nurse Blissey@ leftovers
Nature: bold(+def, -atk)
Trait: natural cure
Ev's: 252 HP, 252 def, 4 sp. Def.

-thunder wave
-softboiled
-double team
-flamethrower/ toxic

This set is good ol' blissey. Thunder wave lowers speed and has a 25% chance of the opponent not attacking. Softboiled is Blissey's own healing move. Double team increases evasion, so they'll be hitting you less. (Basically, you want them to hit you as little as possible.) Flamethrower gives blissey a somewhat ok offensive move with which to protect itself, giving it type advantage over troublesome stuff in this gen. You know who I'm talking about. Toxic is another alternative, which works slow but steady. Anyways... 252 HP means blissey gets extremely high HP. 252 def gives blissey a little extra edge on that spectrum. 4 sp. Def gives blissey one little point in sp. Def that it may need. Bold nature also helps blissey on the defense spectrum. And last but not least, leftovers is for HP recovery.

Hey, wasn't the original point of the Community POTW to have each person not only give their set, but also vote on the next POTW?

Salamence / TTar / Blissey are boring standards. Especially Blissey who only has like two good sets (WishBliss and Softboiled), maybe two-three more if you include crap like CM or Charm Blissey.

Though I have to say the TTar and Salamence POTW were very good. Its true a lot of the sets are obsolete but none of them seem completely unviable (except Rest/Sleep Talk Salamence, I'm sorry Reno but that set is horrible lol). Great job so far!

Reno

so adorable...
well I'll ask serebii about the voting, but it'd probably start when 5th gen pokemon are introduced.

Uni hiatus
Just as Jesusfreak said, the only thing Blissey has going for it over Chansey is the better special attack and leftovers. Leftovers should always be on Blissey. Always. And because of the better SpAttack, always go for the standard Ice Beam/Flamethrower/Thunderbolt standard special moves (maybe Shadow Ball or Psychic if your team really needs it). If you're going to go for the set damage Seismic Toss, you might as well use Chansey, who can't use the special moves, and needs something damaging to use. Just some input for people to consider before posting :)

I know this feature does not usually have much maths, but in the case of comparing Bliss and Chansey the best way to make the comparison clear is by throwing some in, at least the conclusion. If you want some numbers when comparing Bliss and Chansey, assuming 252 HP / 252 Def Bold (the most common for both by the stats).

Blissey:
HP: 714
Def: 130
SpDef: 307
Defensiveness: 92820
Sp. Defensiveness: 219198

Chansey:
HP: 704
Def: 178
SpDef: 370
Defensiveness: 125312
Sp. Defensiveness: 260480

So Evo Stone Chansey takes roughly 1/4 less (25.93%) from Physical hits and roughly 15% (15.85%) less from special hits. Blissey counteracts this by regaining 6.25% per turn from leftovers and being able to use non-Seismic Toss attacks (Ice Beam, Fthrower, Tbolt). It can also do a fair bit more with Counter, though risks being KOed by more physical attacks than Chansey.

Eccentric
Wishing Blissey (pretty standard and IV Gen)

Blissey@Leftovers
Bold Nature
252 HP/252 Def./4 Sp.Def
Ability: Natural Cure
-Wish
-Protect/Softboiled
-Flamethrower/Seismic Toss
-Toxic

Wish for healing partners or herself. Softboiled for extra healing, Protect for stalling Toxic damage, and, along Flamethrower for full coverage against everything, especially Steel-Types that resist poison, and Gengar. Seismic Toss if you are not afraid of ghosts.

Aroma Blissey (cleric)

Blissey@Leftovers
Bold Nature
252 HP/252 Def./4Sp.Def
Ability:Natural Cure
-Aromatherapy
-Softboiled
-Seismic Toss/Flamethrower
-Thunder Wave/Toxic

Aromatherapy for obvious reasons of healing team status. Softboiled to recover. Seismic Toss go well with Thunder Wave, to cripple poisonous ghosts; or may run Flamethrower and Toxic to poison everything and melt Steel-types.... and Gengar.

Bliss... Chansey?

Chansey@Miracle of Evolution
Bold Nature
252 HP/192 Def./64 Sp.Def
Ability: Natural Cure
-Seismic Toss
-Softboiled/Wish
-Aromatherapy/Protect
-Toxic/Thunder Wave

With that miraculous item, Chansey gets more Defense and Sp.Def. than her evolution, at the cost of Special Attack. So with this set, Seismic Toss is the way to go. Then, choose between Thunder Wave, which nicely cripples fast sweepers; or Toxic, that goes great with Wish and Protect, but Gengar may switch and SubSplit Chansey with terrible results. Aromatherapy goes there if you choose Thunder Wave and Softboiled, since you won`t need Protect and it will heal all your team from status. Oh, and another thing, Chansey loses Leftovers recovery.

EV Options
There is a little of controversy of choosing whether maxing HP and Defense, or actually investing a little to improve Special walling. Run for max Defense and Sp.Def if you fear heavy special assaults, such as Choice Specs Users, or if you are going into Ubers. Otherwise, a max HP max Defense set may be better. There is always something that goes in the middle, however, the vital stat to max is Defense, as some Special attackers may have a physical attack in order to attack Blissey.

Less used Options:

Serene Grace: Raise probability of added effects, but status moves are better in a lot of cases.

Healing Heart and Healing Beam: Double and Triple battle use, otherwise useless. Healing Heart has a chance of healing partners`status (Aromatherapy does it better), Healing Beam instead is more useful, as it heals directly a partner.

Counter: Not many Blisseys run this, but if one carries this and resist the attack, better say good bye to the attacker. May run with a Focus Sash, if you actually want to do this strategy, but this way you won`t heal each turn and Blissey will be extremely easy to kill. Mmm, very risky.

Please don't comment about the spambots. All forums have had an influx of them, it's not just us. We're trying to block them but recently the main methods of blocking them was cracked. Just ignore them and use the report button when they are posted.

Before this POTW ends I want to put my input here.

First off is the most important thing. You MUST have a reason to use Blissey over Chansey. That means all Blissey must either carry a Special Attack or run Wish without Softboiled. Chansey's Special Attack is too low to run a Special Attack, its so low it struggles to break Gengar's Substitute with Shadow Ball. The other is that due to Chansey not running Leftovers Wish / Protect is far less useful on it, to the point of being a hindrance, especially when Sandstorm is blowing.

Wish Blissey @ Leftovers
Bold
Natural Cure
84 HP / 252 Defense / 172 Special Defense

Wish
Protect
Flamethrower
Toxic

WishBliss is still usable. Flamethrower hits Doryuuzu and Nattorei hard (sometimes 2HKOing both) while hitting pretty much everything when paired with Toxic. Wish and Protect help heal Blissey, scout for Trick and repair 336 points of damage from anything Wish passes to. This will heal around 85.2% of a max HP Gyarados, and 100% of anything with base 97 or less HP that doesn't invest in it. 84 HP EVs rounds up the Wish healing while the Defense and Sp Defense EVs maximize defenses.

Special Wall Blissey @ Leftovers
Bold
Natural Cure
80 HP / 252 Defense / 176 Special Defense

Flamethrower / Ice Beam
Toxic / Thunder Wave
Seismic Toss / Aromatherapy
Softboiled

Standard wall Blissey. Flamethrower hits Steels and has good coverage with Toxic, while Ice Beam smashes Dragons and has near perfect coverage with Thunder Wave. Seismic Toss is your main damage dealing move, hitting Heatran primarily but also used to handle Substitute users and things that resist Ice Beam / Flamethrower. Aromatherapy can be used as team support though you become slightly more vulnerable to PP stall.

These are the two main sets that probably 95% of Blisseys fall under. But you want variety Reno, so...

Charm Blissey @ Leftovers
Bold
Natural Cure
252 HP / 252 Defense / 4 Special Defense

Charm
Flamethrower
Softboiled
Toxic

Charm Blissey is one of the most effective abusers of Spikes in the game. After a Charm she becomes virtually invincible to most attacks, even Doryuuzu barely manages a 5HKO at -2. Charm Blissey does not work as well on a stall team as stall appreciates Aromatherapy or Wish support, but Spikes Offense in need of a defensive pivot will find Charm Blissey to be a great boon when it comes to racking up Spikes damage or allowing one of your own sweepers a turn of setup. HP and Defense is maxed so you can stay in on the stronger physical moves to launch a Charm.

Calm Mind Blissey @ Leftovers
Bold
Natural Cure / Serene Grace
252 HP / 252 Defense / 4 Special Defense

Calm Mind
Ice Beam / Focus Blast
Thunderbolt / Shadow Ball
Softboiled

With Calm Mind and Defensive EVs Blissey can quickly become very hard to bring down. Boltbeam coverage is arguably best, but "Focus Ball" hits some common 5th gen threats like Doryuuzu, Nattorei, Rankurusu, Tyranitar, Heatran and Shandera harder while still hitting Latios, Sazandora and Burungeru reasonably. The main problem with this set is strong physical moves, which are abundant. Even so, when played right CM Blissey can run through a team. Natural Cure is the best nature here, but Serene Grace can help you muscle through opposing Calm Mind Pokemon through Freezes or Special Defense drops.

Defense Curl Blissey @ Leftovers / Mail
Modest
Natural Cure
252 Defense / 252 Special Attack / 4 HP

Charge Beam
Ice Beam
Defense Curl
Softboiled

You may laugh, but if you don't have any boosting physical sweepers, Calm Minders, Trick or STAB Close Combat you may be swept 6-0 by this Blissey. After a Defense Curl only the strongest of moves will 2HKO Blissey while after a few Charge Beam boosts Chansey can cut through an impressive number of threats. At +5 Blissey will 2HKO any Burungeru with Charge Beam, but will 2HKO most frail Pokemon around +2 or +3. You may run Mail over Leftovers, as this gives you immunity to Trick, further adding to the defenses this Blissey has. In non-competitive terms this Blissey will solo most Gym leaders and can take the Elite 4 on its own, even when 15-20 levels lower.

You like Digimon, so you suck. (Troll Face)

Your sets are all quite amazing, though I am questioning a Defense Curl Blissey. Doesn't seem like she'd be getting in very much when Physical Attackers like Machamp. Substitute helps, alot, but I've never gotten it on such a Physically poor pokemon, even if it can boost, it won't get enough.

That's about it. There was a spelling / grammer mistake in there, see if you can find it.

+1 Blissey has about 12% more defense than max/max Swampert and about the same as max/max Skarmory. Pretty much anything that isn't STAB Fighting or a boosted hit will 3HKO.

Its probably not a top tier threat, but I guess its up to Reno. Its a reasonable fun set to use, but to be honest I don't think I'd ever use it as anything besides a joke.

Its grammar. Did I win?

No, it's in your post. XD

I'll never find it lol. The grammar part is up to reno / whoever writes the POTW.

Yeah, but Dynamicpunch Machamp still kicks it's a*s

Yep. But without STAB fighting or boosted physical moves most things won't take it out. Its still a gimmick set though.

damage inc.

Future 2011 champ
with all of the new fighting types and sweepers like ononosuko, evo stone chansey w/ seismic toss would be best... psycho shock makes it harder, and it will need all the defense it can get

Burakoru

Belly Slide
The Prince & The Pauper, Blissey style!

Blissey must have a partner for this, it may be double or triple, but not single, my example will include Starmie, but you could use any pokemon that learns Light Screen & Reflect.

Blissey's Attacks, Softboiled, Growl, Sing, & Refresh.
Starmie's Attacks, Light Screen, Reflect, Blizzard, & Confuse Ray.

Blissey's item, Leftovers
Starmie's item, Light Clay

Blissey's ability, Serene Grace
Starmie's ability, Natural Cure

Natures, Blissey, Impish, Starmie, Timid

Reasons for attacks:
Blissey: Softboiled, for healing itself & it's partner. Growl, for lowering opponents defense(Optional). Sing, to put opponents to sleep, making it easier for it's partner to defeat opponents(Also optional). Refresh, to take away status problems it gets.

EV's, Blissey: All are maxed, especially Defense & HP.

Thus, stats at Lv. 50 accumulate, HP: 362 Attack:68 Defense: 68 Spattack: 139 SpDefense: 405 Speed: 117

It especially helps to partner it up with a speedy partner like Starmie, & give your partner some good attacks,(Preferably ones that attack both opponents) it's symbiosis between Blissey & the partner. This specifically Double or Triple battle, NOT single battle.

GarSlizer

Earthshaker
I dont think anyone has mentioned this, but Chansey AND Blissey can be used together for double the special walling. Also, Blissey dreads Ghosts with Substitute, they laugh at Blissey. Behind a Sub Blissey cannot break with Seismic Toss, they can set up (CMers can shrug off any attacks Blissey has) and/or hit Blissey with Focus Punch--a supereffective move that strikes Blissey in it's weaker defensive stat. One example of a Ghost-type Sub-CMer is Mismagius, an example of a Sub-Puncher is Goruugu (who also has Iron Fist). Fighting types also are a problem, they can absorb statuses for Guts boosts and can leech Blissey's health with Drain Punch or boost with Bulk up. Roopushin is an excellent example.

Sceptile Leaf Blade

Nighttime Guardian
Something worth mentioning is Blisseys weakness to Leech Seed. With her insanely high hitpoints stat, pestering it with Leech Seed makes an effective healing tactic, especially if Blissey lacks Flamethrower or Ice Beam to deal with your grass type. Combined with Blisseys fairly lack of direct threat it becomes frustrating to take down leech seeders.

Nattorei is one that can use Leech Seed against Blisseys without Flamethrower since it's indifferent to Ice Beam. Nattorei can also use Leech Seed together with either Spikes or Stealth rock on the same set for more fun (although it can't use both entry hazards at once while running Leech Seed due to breeding conflicts). Entry hazards punish switching, Leech Seed punishes staying in. Nattorei can also use Blissey to set up curses.

Celebi, Tangrowth, and Shaymin are also worth mentioning as Leech Seed users, as they are especially potent with Subseeding against it if it lacks flamethrower or ice beam with their potential 101HP substitutes, pretty much forcing blissey to switch.

And Drain Punch is a move more threatening to Blissey, another move to take advantage of her high hitpoints. It grew from a forgettable base 60 to base 75 and, whilst it won't really take out Blissey in one hit usually, it will restore your own life points a whole lot more than Blissey can hope to damage.

For the same high hitpoints reason, Pain Split is also fun to use against it.
