Right, time for the next Pokémon of the Week. We're doing an awesome Unova Pokémon this week

637.png

This time it's the amazing Bug/Fire Pokémon Volcarona. It is capable of doing so much, despite being weak to Stealth Rock.

http://www.serebii.net/pokedex-bw/637.shtml

Go nuts

Incidentally, its pre-evolution Larvesta is capable of being a weak but sort of usable Pokémon since it differs completely from it

First time as first and Fisrt ever POTW post, so lets go!!!!!
Standard Special sweeper
Nautre: Modest ability: swarm
Spread : 252 SP atk 252 speed 4 hp
iteam :focus sash
-Firey dance / fire blast
-quiver dance
- psychic
- bug buzz

The common special sweeper set, the point is to execute one quiver dance then using focus sash, then attack. Fiery dance is accurate and gives a nice boost, while fire blast trades accuracy for more power. Bug buzz is stab and gets the swarm boost, psychic for coverage.

Try Swatting this
Nautre: bold/calm ablity: Flame body
Spread : 100 SP atk 252 hp 76 def 76 spe def
iteam :leftovers
-morning sun
-protect/bug buzz
- firey dance/flamethrower
-toxic

Volcarona carries some surprise bulk, made all the more annoying by the morining sun recover it would gain on a sun team. Heal with sun kill with toxic, the set is simple. Protect can annoy but another attack like bug buzz is welcome. firey dance/flamethroweris STAB and kills immune steels. Flame body activates burn, which can also drain hp in place of poison.

Counters: Blissy, special walls, bulky waters and...
Stealth rock

Attack of the Mothra
Volcarona @ Life Orb
Trait: Flame Body/Swarm
EVs: 4 HP/252 SAtk/252 Spd
Modest (+SAtk, -Atk)/Timid (+Spd, -Atk)
- Bug Buzz
- Fire Blast/Fiery Dance
- Hidden Power Fighting/Ground/Grass
- Quiver Dance
This is kind of a standard Volcarona Quiver Dance sweeper. Volcarona is amazing and is definitely OU material. Choice of Hidden Power is up to you as long as you can take out Rock types. Rapid Spinner recommended so that Stealth Rock does not strip you of half your health.

Sweeper(Volcarona) (M) @ Leftovers
Trait: Flame Body
EVs: 4 HP / 252 SAtk / 252 Spd
Modest Nature (+SAtk, -Atk)
- Bug Buzz
- Quiver Dance
- Fiery Dance
- Substitute/Morning Sun

This is quite simple, just set up a few Quiver Dances and just sweep your opponent's team. Be sure to get rid of Stealth Rocks before switching in to this thing, SR really cripples Volcarona.

Sala-imence

Rock type trainer
Volcarona

Item: Leftovers
Nature: Timid
EVs: 252 Spe / 252 SpA / 4 SpD
Ability: Flame Body
Moveset:
- Quiver Dance
- Fire Blast
- Bug Buzz
- Fire Spin

Shame it can't have swarm yet,so flame body for now. Quiver Dance is amazing. One use is enough then Fire Blast kills most stuff. Bug buzz for extra coverage, and fire spin to trap the opponent, while you quiver dance.

Ttar's stone edge

League Legend
Ahh, volcarona. Everyone uses it, but no one does it properly, and stealth rock annihilates this thing. Spikes as well. (just for reference, it will be left with 25% if full spikes and rock switch. That's only one.) However, if it gets a spin assist, this thing can cause DS's to fly to the other side of the room

Quiver with fear
Volcarona @ Leftovers/lum berry
Trait: Flame Body
EVs: 4 HP/252 SAtk/252 Spd
Modest (+SAtk, -Atk) or go with Timid (+Spd, -Atk)
- Bug Buzz
- Fiery Dance
- Hidden Power Ground
- Quiver Dance
This is THE set. Ground for pesky fire types that absorb fire attacks and your usual boosting move +STAB moves. Fiery dance>Fireblast cos of +Spatk chance raise.

Opinion: This thing is pretty sweet. It can devastate teams if used properly, but a spinner IS essential. No choice at all.

Next week: Dunno why i try to guess, 1 in about 300 or something chance, but i'll say kingdra

A great example to a pokemon which stealth rock weakness is not all in the meta game when you have excellent stats typing (except the SR weakness) and the right moves you get a Huge moth

I saw a nice set on some people teams:

Rain Volcarona
@leftovers/lum berry/flying gem
252 sp.attack, 252 speed, 4 defense
modest/timid
flame body
-Hurricane
-Bug Buzz
-Hidden Power Water/rock
-Quiver Dance

rain volcarona? but... why? well volcarona have quiver dance and it is awesome plus starmie is one of the best rapid spinners and he work better on rain, hurricane is barely resisted in OU mmost teams don't care about a flying weakness too much.. and the fightiers are too many, Bug Buzz is a STAB, Hidden Power water is pseudo Stab that hits heatran hard and some steels too, rock hits dragonite harder.

Parthners Politoed, Starmie/tentacruel/delibird, espeon/xatu

from smogon mainly:
Sun Volcarona
@life orb/leftovers
248 HP, 40 def, 212 speed, 4 sp.attack (I put some random evs to put some bulk but keep the speed I don't wanna look at smogon)
Timid/Modest
Flame Body
-Fiery Dance/Fire Blast
-Morning Sun
-Bug Buzz/Hidden Power rock/ground
-Quiver Dance

bulky volcarona to abuse the sp.def boosts and being able to sweep better fiery dance vs fire blast is immediate power vs. long term power. Morning sun= healing especially when you are so weak to SR it is essential
Bug Buzz is a second STAB, HP rock and ground are coverage ( rock for dragons balloon heatran, ground for terrakion and none baloon heatran.

Quver Dance is obvious.

Mine:
Totally unexpected
@Choice Scarf/Specs
252 sp.attack, 252 speed, 4 defense
modest/timid
Flame Body
-Bug Buzz
-Fiery Dance/Fire Blast
-Fire Blast/U-turn
-Hidden Power rock/ground

Who expect a scarfed *4 weak to SR answer: no one
good if you can keep SR away and if not you still have a high chance of getting a kill on something.
Bug Buzz STAB
Fiery dance STAB and very good when you revenge kill, Fire Blast for more power
U-turn use only if you are confindent you can keep SR away (you have espeon or a spinner or both)

Pokemon Breeder
YAY! ONE OF MY FAVORITES!

Volcarona is amazing. It can use Fly and it has Flame Body! It's the perfect Pokemon for someone like me who hatches eggs in certain places!

Volcarona is greatly hindered by its defense and since almost all Rock moves except for like... two are physical it has a hard time surviving. Its pre-evolved form, Larvesta, is also fast and powerful, but lacks a little in the dfense department. However, it's one of few Pokemon that starts as a Pokemon that's strong in Attack and then becomes strong in Special Attack.

Flame Body: Good for the rare chance that you might land a burn on your opponent.
Swarm: Probably better since your Bug Buzz will be stronger than Fire Blast but only if you're low on HP.

Sun Volcarona
Flame Body
Modest/Timid
252 SpAtk/4 Def/252 Spd
Life Orb

Morning Sun
Fire Blast/Heat Wave/Fiery Dance/Flamethrower
Solarbeam
Bug Buzz

In the sun Volcarona really shines. It can learn Morning Sun which in the sun brings it back to full. It learns a wide array of fire-type moves. Fire Blast is super powerful yet it has a low accuracy. Heat Wave has a somewhat less than perfect accuracy, however, in a double battle it can hit all of te opponents. Fiery Dance never misses and it can raise your Special Attack. Flamethrower's like a reliable Fire Blast, only less powerful. Solarbeam doesn't have to charge and it's useful agaisnt your one major weakness. Bug Buzz is just there because it's a really strong STAB.

Simple Sweep
Flame Body
Modest/Timid
252 SpAtk/4 Def/252 Spd
Life Orb

Quiver Dance
Bug Buzz
Fire Blast/Fiery Dance
HP Water/Hurricane/Solarbeam

You'll need a partner that can use Simple Beam or some way to get simple to Volcarona. Even without it though it's still pretty good. However, if it can last long enough to use it on Volcarona your opponent's going to be in for a beating. Quiver Dance raises three stats, Sp Atk, Sp Def, and Spd by one stage. With Simple it DOUBLES all of those stats making Volcarona a very deadly force. Bug Buzz is a strong STAB. Fire Blast is a super strong STAB. Fiery Dance could potentially make your Special Attack triple what it originally was. HP Water can hurt both Chandelure and rock types. Hurricane provides a strong move if you're hit by rain and can take out pesky Ludicolos wherever they may sprout up. Solarbeam's good in the sun and can hurt water types as well as rock types.

Edit:
Suicide
Flame Body
Adamant/Jolly
252 Atk/4 Def/252 Spd
Eviolite/Life Orb

Flare Blitz
Double Edge
Morning Sun
U-Turn

With this set you use your strongest moves; Flare Blitz, Double Edge, and U-Turn. Heal with Morning Sun. Works best in the sun. You can either use Eviolite to boost your defenses which is very common in the LC metagame or Life Orb to make your attacks even stronger, but with LO recoil AND attack recoil from two of your moves it probably isn't the best idea.

Slightly Mad...
Rain Volcarona???
-Bug Buzz
-Hurricane
-Fire blast/Fiery Dance
-Quiver Dance
Item: Life Orb
Nature: Timid
252 SpA, 4 SpD, 252 Spe

A weird set, but it helps rain teams counter threats like Ferrothorn. Bug Buzz is for stab. Fire Blast is preferred for that extra power since rain nerfs your fire, but Fiery Dance works as well with its possible SpA boost. Hurricane destroys things in the rain, and Quiver Dance helps outspeed Scarfers while powering yourself up...

I think volcarona got some checks but it depend of his HP: Terrakion (resist everything except HP water/ground KO with STAB), blissey/chansey (wall to death maybe not in the sun..) Heatran (wall + roar if there is not HP ground), Dragonite,Salamance (reisst STABS), speially defensive quagsmire should work (need calculation) and the best volcarona check: Stealth Rock

Revenge killers: azumarill, carracosta, ferligartor (aqua jet users), scarf fast physical attackers can so good damage.

almost everything with a rock move KOes.

Some ideas:
Sub + 3 attacks set
Sub + quiver dance + Stabs set
^ both need spin support

LC:
Larvesta @choice Band
Flame Body
some weird stats.. but 160 attack, 160 speed (I think it grant max), rest in Def
Jolly
-U-turn
-Flare Blitz
-Wild Charge
-Zen headbutt/Return

with great attack of 85 choice band will kill everything with 60 speed it can work I am not too experienced in LC though..
well STAB, STAB VS. waters which are your counters and vs. mienshao or a more accurate move.
need spinner too

Tribute to generation 5 for bringing us a large number of bug pokemon that don't really suck or extreamely weak. Volcarona is one of the best bug typed pokemon in the game and that's not just because of her sub fire typing. In fact her sub typing is more of a hindrance, bringing to it a more crippling stealth rock weakness. But one must admit, Bug/Fire is too much of a cool typing that one can hate just because of stelth rocks!! Frankly, I hate stealth rock, it cripples most of my favorite pokemon and it's a very very common very overrated move! Black and white introduced magic bounce and the ever present rapid spin making stealth rock and all entry hazards easier to avoid or remove.

Before making this a review for stealth rock, volcarona is a very fearful sweeper, a special one indeed. With access to quiver dance, one of the best boosting move in the game (The same move that made butterfree a very good sweeper in NU), she becomes very difficult to stop even after a single boost. Her movepool is also stuffed with very good coverage moves allowing her to damage many check or sure counters.

On the downside, Volcarona has a terrible ability in flame body (Since swarm is not yet released) because this moth is not made to take too many hits on the physical side. To make things worse flame body has a low 30% chance of burning meaning repeated hits will be needed to cripple an opponent's pokemon except if you are lucky.

Volcarona@life orb/leftovers
Ability:Flame body
Nature: Raise speed lower attack
EVS: 252 Sp ATT/ 252 SPD/ 4 HP or Sp DEF
Moveset:
-Quiver dance
-Flamethrower/ Heat wave/ Fire blast/ Fiery dance
-Bug buzz
-Hidden power Grass/ Solarbeam
Pretty basic stuff. Quiver dance your way to a sweep with the following moves. Choose your fire type move depnding on your liking for consistency or power. Overheat is not peffered here since the sp ATT drop will means that you need to switch out making you vulnerable to stealth rock. YOU DON'T WANT TO SWITCH OUT! Bug buzz is you strongest bug type move. Round up the coverage with a grass type move that hits water, groung and rock types hard that otherwise will wall you/kill you! Solarbeam is here if you are in a sun team if not, go with hidden power grass.

Volcarona@life orb/Leftovers
Same as above in everything
Moveset:
-Hurricane
-Quiver dance
-Bug buzz
-Fire blast/Overheat
Say hi to a rain teamed volcarona. Easy and efficient. With a sky high special attack, Volcarona's hurricane will hurt a lot of things. Bug buzz is an alternative stab move and quiver dance is your main boosting move. In the last slot a fire type stab move is a definite choice to take out common steel types and to a lesser extent ice types. Sure under rain you will have their power cut by half but by choosing high powered moves will be more than enough to dent them with your huge special attack. Plus, If the rain gets turned off you'll have a powerful alternative to hurricane.

Espeon and Xatu are the best partners for volcarona, not only they have magic bounce to protect your team from entry hazards, they have access to reflect to increase volcarona's physical bulk allowing her to abuse her flame body ability and some other moves like whirlwind and morning sun making it a very potent shuffler with some hazards support.

This is my first ever post about sets, and I'm still a newbie to setting up movesets. I'm bound to get some things wrong ^ ^'

O.K., Volcarona... one heck of a pokemon in raised properly, but takes AGES to evolve XD

Drawn to the light
-Morning sun/Rest
-Heatwave/Solarbeam
-Quiver Dance
-Struggle Bug/Sleep Talk
E.V's- 252 Special Attack, 252 Speed, and whatever's left into HP

This is a Mix and match set, but I'm putting in a couple of pointers. First off, Only use Solarbeam if you are using it on a Sunny Day team. That's it's main use. Morning sun can heal well, but if your not using a sunny team, it's probably best to use rest. Finnally, Quiver Dance is one of the best new boosting moves. Higher Attack, Special Attack, and Speed fits into lot of sets well. It is almost nesiccary.
As for the items... you'll be needing a Fire Gem, or if your using rest, a Chesto berry.
I'm happy I finaly posted :)

Volcarona

Stealth Rock is its worst nightmare. Other than that, its unique typing offers several possibilities.

Nature: Timid/Modest

Item: Life Orb

Moves:

Quiver Dance
Psychic/Solarbeam
Fiery Dance/Fire Blast
Bug Buzz

Quiver Dance boosts your three best stats, so you'd have to be crazy not to use it. Solarbeam is for sun teams, Psychic otherwise. Fiery Dance has a chance to boost your offense, Fire Blast has more power. Bug Buzz is general STAB.

Charizard Lizzy

BARRELS!!!
Since the best of Volcarona’s sets have already been mentioned and I’d be a broken record here, I’ll attempt to come up with some stuff for Larvesta for a change.

For a pre-evolution, Larvesta’s stats are interesting. Its strongest offense is its Attack at base 85, and it has a Physical movepool rather than a Special when grown-up. With the Eviolite, both its defenses go from puny 55 to a better 83 (rounded up) - although they’re still backed up by a fragile base 55 HP. Base 60 Speed is lackluster, but still puts Larvesta comfortably in a Trick Room. Of course, Larvesta could potentially increase its Speed thanks to Flame Charge if so desired.

Abilities:

Flame Body - Is Larvesta’s only option right now. It’s not too bad; potentially burning the opponent will give Larvesta a boost in Defense.

Swarm (Dream World, currently unavailable) - gain a 1.5x Bug boost when Larvesta’s health is below 1/3. Also a very nice ability. Larvesta especially could use any boost it can considering it’s a little weak. Too bad it’s not available yet.

:636:
Bulky?
Item: Eviolite
Ability: Flame Body
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Atk / 4 Spd
Nature: Jolly (+Spd, -Sp. Atk)

- Amnesia
- Will-o-wisp
- Flame Charge/Flare Blitz/Flame Wheel
- Wild Charge/Morning Sun

...Yeah, this set’s gimmicky all right. But hey, Larvesta has the awesome Amnesia to sharply boost its Special Defense. Will-o-wisp takes away the opponent’s health as well as raise Larvesta’s Defense against a Physical sweeper. Flame Charge boosts Larvesta’s Speed. If in a Trick Room, though, Flare Blitz is Larvesta’s strongest physical Fire-type move. Don’t like the recoil and are in a Trick Room? Well all that’s left is Flame Wheel to use. Wild Charge deals recoil, but lets Larvesta fight Water- and Flying-types, both of which it’s weak to. Morning Sun recovers health (especially in the sun).

Larvesta’s only worthwhile Physical Bug move is U-turn, but unfortunately in this set it wouldn’t be very beneficial as you’d wipe out all your stat boosts.

:636:
KILL EVERYTHING WITH RECOIL
Item: Life Orb / Leftovers
Ability: Flame Body
EVs: 252 Atk / 252 Spd / 4 HP
Nature: Jolly

- Flare Blitz
- Double-Edge
- Wild Charge
- Flame Charge / U-turn / Morning Sun

Want the strongest raw power you can find for this little bug? Behold, the trio of recoil moves it learns! Flare Blitz gets Fire STAB, Double-Edge... is Normal-type but still strong. Wild Charge against Water- and Flying-types. Flame Charge boosts Speed while dealing damage. U-turn can scout (although Larvesta’s pretty slow). Morning Sun recovers recoil from Life Orb and its trio of recoil moves.

Ghosts of the Forums

Who Ya Gonna Call?
These are the only sets you will ever need:

637.gif

Volcarona @Sash/Lum Berry/Lefties
Timid
Flame Body
252Sp.Atk, 252Spe, 4Hp-Fiery Dance
-Bug Buzz
-Quiver Dance
-Hidden Power (Ground)
You get your dual stab, and I find fiery dance is the only way to go, although a lot of people prefer fire blast. I'd rather just boost my sp.atk when attacking, but that's your call.

Volcarona @Chesto Berry/Lefties/Lum Berry
Bold
Flame Body
240Hp, 240Def 40Spe
-Fiery Dance
-Bug Buzz
-Quiver Dance
-Morning Sun
Works very well in sun, fiery dance boosts your special attack, quiver dance lets you set up, bug buzz is for stab, and morning sun heals, although you could run hidden power ground somewhere.

EDIT: Larvesta set for lc:

636.gif

Larvesta @Life Orb/Eviolite
Flame Body
Jolly
236Atk, 196Spe, 76Hp
-Flare Blitz
-U-Turn
-Wild Charge
-Morning Sun
With this set, larvesta reaches 18 attack and 16 speed, and 23 hit points. Larvesta's moves provide maximum coverage, and morning sunallows it to recover health lost to LO recoil or rocks.

Volcarona. It's got an awful Defensive typing, it's got a surprisingly tiny movepool and it's very predictable. How the heck is thing... oh yeah Quiver Dance. It's got pretty good offensive stats and decent Spdef but Volcarona's true strength is being the best user of Quiver Dance. In fact, since Volcarona can't defend or use Choice items( thanks to a certain rock-based entry hazard), EVERY Volcarona set makes use of Quiver Dance.
Hopefully, countering it is going to be easier than last week.

Counters
Stealth Rock. There's no denying it. Stealth Rock destroys all Volcarona and means that it gets 2 switch-ins at most unless it has Lefties. Bear in mind that all good Volc users have a Spinner on hand such as Tentacruel or Donphan. make sure you eliminate the Spinner or have a Sinblocker like Jellicent on hand.
Phazing moves or the Red Card are a great way of forcing it out.
Taunt stops it from setting up in the first place. Haze also ruins it's boosts.

And now onto specific Pokemon:
Balloon Heatran can take everything bar a stray HP[Water] or something. He also gets Stealth Rock and Roar which is great. He can't damage Volc after a few boosts though.
Jellicent is adequate if you're struggling for team spaces but it can only use Toxic in the end. ChestoRest or Substitute Volc own it though. Of course you could just surprise him with Specs Water Spout if you wish.
Scarf Terakion in Sand is probably the best Counter. Resists it's STABs, can take a Hurricane or HP[Ground] if necessary thanks to Sands Spdef boost. It still outspeeds Volcarona even after a Quiver Dance boost and OHKOes it to hell and back with Stone Edge. Alternatively, you could just setup with Swords Dance while you're opponent switches out. Even out of the Sand Terakion has Volcarona quaking in it's boots. It doesn't even have to worry about Flame Body.
Dragonite can smack it's weaker Defence with Outrage, cripple it with Thunder Wave or phase it with Dragon Tail. All the Dragon/Flyers do well actually.
CBScizor with Quick Attack makes a nice lure since you have a very good chance of OHKOing offensive variants after SR. Also, chances are the Volc won't attack as it'll be expecting a switchout when in fact it's being crippled unless your opponent removes hazards
There's a ton of more niche/obscure stuff I can't be arsed listing here such as Rain Dance Poliwrath with Swift Swim or Keldeo.

Volcarona seems threatening but with very clear cut counters and weaknesses it's easy to play around. He's still a very powerful sweeper who can 6-0 an unprepared team so be wary. Keeping Stealth Rock up is (literally)half the battle, but once he's out and forces a switch the true war begins.

matgonor

Too cool for SSB4
volcarona is an awesome pokemon.great stab, stellar special stats, great coverage moves, and one of the best boosting moves in the game.sadly, its physical stats arent that great, but resistance to 4 priority moves is awesome.but it suffers from the same curse charizard and yanmega do:a 4X weakness to stealth rock.but dont let these things fool you, since after 1 boost it can sweep trought an entire team.

DROUGHT SWEEPER
@life orb
-quiver dance
-flamethrower/f.blast/fiery dance
-solarbeam
-bug buzz
252 sp.atk and speed, 4 sp.def

with the sun in, after a quiver dance, volcarona is a BEAST.
any of the 3 moves will kill almost everything in the game.
solarbeam for these pesky rock types and water types that switch in.bug buzz is for finalizing its coverage.just take care w/ solarbeam once the opponent switchs in a wetaher inducer.

Struggle bug is too weak volcarona don't learn sleep talk and solar beam is only worth in the sun and not instead of the fire stab.

.
What s so terrible in Flame body it is not like you will be all the time: "come on volcarona BURN! it is a nice ability which can criple somme attackers.

This is the only set you will ever need:

637.gif

Volcarona @Sash/Lum Berry/Lefties/Chesto Berry
Timid/Bold
Flame Body
252Sp.Atk, 252Spe, 4Hp OR 240Hp, 240Def, 40Spe
-Fiery Dance
-Bug Buzz
-Quiver Dance
-Morning Sun/Rest/Hidden Power (Ground)
This is it. The only set you should ever need. You can go bulky with chestorest or morning sun, or go all-out attacker with hp ground, which is needed to kill heatran. But morning sun is only for sun teams. You get your dual stab, and I find fiery dance is the only way to go, although a lot of people prefer fire blast. I'd rather just boost my sp.atk when attacking, but that's your call.

It would be better if you separate the two sets.. if the evs are that different then it is two sets the attacker and sun bulky in this case.

Sorry for posting a lot I had to make some points clear

ClefairyRox

Nintendo Fan
Finally, Gamefreak did a butterfly/moth Pokemon right! While other Pokemon based on butterflies and moths are wimpy (Beautifly, Mothim and Dustox) or at best somewhat usable (Butterfree, Venomoth), THIS one is a monster. I mean, it takes its name from volcano and corona (the "atmosphere" of the sun), has a typing unique to its line, has some INSANELY high stats, and has a movepool that works perfectly with it. It also resists the most common priority moves (Bullet Punch and Mach Punch). Really, this Pokemon's danger level rivals that of Mothra, and every player in OU should be prepared to take it on.

Recommended tiers: OU-Uber

Flame Body gives Volcarona a 30% chance of burning a foe that makes contact with it. This is a pretty gimmicky ability, but its the only one legal as of now.
Swarm multiplies the power of Volcarona's Bug-type moves by 1.5 when its HP falls below 1/3 of maximum. This further increases Volcarona's already incredible destructive power, and it will likely become the standard once its released.

As I said before, Volcarona's movepool fits perfectly with its stats. Its most dangerous move is, without question, Quiver Dance. This move was no doubt MADE for Volcarona. It increases Volcarona's Sp. Attack, Sp. Defense, and Speed by one level, and these are all its best stats! Not only does Quiver Dance make it a threatening sweeper, but it also makes it very difficult to KO with special attacks. After just one Quiver Dance, a Timid Volcarona with max Speed and Sp. Attack can reach over 550 Sp. Attack, 492 Speed, and 369 Sp. Defense! That is just terrifying. Volcarona also has a very powerful move exclusive to it: Fiery Dance. While it is weaker than Flamethrower at just base 80 power, this move has a whopping 50% chance of raising Volcarona's Sp. Attack one level! It also has Bug Buzz to turn to for STAB. Hurricane is unreliable, but an option if, for some reason, you want to use Volcarona on a rain team. Psychic is another special filler option. Lastly, it has Hidden Power. Ground or Water is preferable, since Fire types (especially Heatran) resist Volcarona's STAB. Will-O-Wisp is decent for bulky Volcarona, as is Morning Sun. Oddly, it gets Magnet Rise, but since its not weak to Ground, that move is better off unused. This may not look like a lot, but it's all Volcarona need to rain destruction on your opponent.

Double and Triple options: Volcarona's Heat Wave is only second in Chandelure in terms of power. It also has Rage Powder to redirect attacks. Beware of Rock Slide and Surf, however.

Countering Volcarona: Stealth Rock. Stealth Rock murders Volcarona, cutting off half of its HP every time it switches in. Spikes and Toxic Spikes are also effective, though not as much as Stealth Rock. Volcarona has low physical Defense, so physical attacks, especially Extremespeed, can be used. Heatran is a solid switch-in to Volcarona; its highly resistant to Bug and immune to Fire. Just watch out for Hidden Power. Revenge killing Volcarona can be done, though it is difficult once it sets up. Your Pokemon needs at least 493 Speed to outrun a Timid Volcarona with one Quiver Dance up! Blissey can sponge Volcarona's power and cripple it with Thunder Wave, but she can also be used as set-up fodder for Quiver Dance. Jellicent can also work, but it will probably need Toxic to help with Sp. Defense raises from Quiver Dance.

OH! I have one in my tailwind team and it's great!
This guy can also serve as a flier and an egg hatcher, so if you already have an EV trained one, go catch the wild one for that purpose.

You don't want this moth in your closet!
Nature: Timid
EVs: 252 Sp.Att, 252 Speed, and 4 Def
Item: Sitrus Berry
Moves:
Quiver Dance
Heat Wave
Bug Buzz
Hidden Power (Grass or Water)/Morning Sun/SolarBeam (sun teams only)

Your average moveset and most competitors can see it coming, but once it's pulled off, it can cause devastating results!

Countering Volcarona:
It may be the worst pest in history (by eating your clothes and then setting your house on fire), however, setting up a stealth rock trap can be very effective. If it quiver danced a whole lot, you use clear smog or haze (the moves that should be used more often). Prankster Murkrow can easily pull it off.
