His only serious drawback is his speed. Combine this with the fact that most of his attacks won't hurt allies, Emboar would fit very nicely in double or triple battle with a classic TrickRoom team, putting him in a niche that Blaziken and Infernape can't touch with their speed. Plus, a a partner can give him healing support to help counter his Reckless recoil.

Also? His design is not that bad. But his typing is unoriginal and he has a lame name.

Emboar this week Serperior last week no guesses what it will be next week...

Reckless Set

-Flare Blitz
-Head Smash
-Wild Charge
-Superpower
Ability: Reckless
Nature: Adamant (+Att -Special Att)
Hold Item: Leftovers / White Herb / Choice Band / Life Orb

A power sweeper set maxing out attack and using powerful moves. Reckless to double the power of Flare Blitz, Head Smash and Wild Charge with Superpower giving STAB. Leftovers can heal recoil, White Herb for recovering stats reduced by Superpower but probably best using Choice Band or Life Orb for additional power!

Gyro Set

-Gyro Ball
-Hammer Arm
-Curse
-Flare Blitz
Ability: Reckless
Nature: Brave (+Att -Spd)
Hold Item: Choice Band / Life Orb

A set which involves reducing Emboar's Speed to increase the power of Gyro Ball. The Brave nature works well as while increasing Emboar's Attack while lowering its Speed to further increase the power of Gyro Ball. Curse reduces Speed and increases Attack and Defence, Hammer Arm also decreases Speed while inflicting damage. Flare Blitz for STAB and increased power by Reckless.

why use a brave nature on the reckless set because your not using any special moves so you might as well use an adamant nature so you don't get the speed drop.

Yerrr...Emboar's gonna be compared to the the other fire starters...Emboar doesn't quite match up to it's fellow starters..Charizard has the Belly Drum Niche,Blaziken has Swords Dance,Typhlosion has Eruption...and Infernape is Infernape..Does the pig have anything that can match the others?,Apart from the Reckless Ability =/
A VERY empressive movepool compared to the others, wild charge,Scakdm Heat Stamp,Head Smash,Stone edge and yawn. He may be slow but hes the hardest hitting physically of all the starters, and he doesnt lack special attack. Emboar isnt that bad, He could actually work pretty nice in a trick room team running Brave with no speed investment.

I can't find much, if anything Emboar can do that the other fire/fighters can't. Maybe a Bulk Up set as Emboar can easily survive a STAB Surf. Theres also the Reckless suicide set I guess.

My stache' is better
I'd personally use Emboar as a suicide bomber. He can be used defensively, but isn't supportive, has a lack of a healing move, and isn't the best defensive pokemon.

My idea of a Emboar moveset

The Pig that has no weakness

Nature:Niave
Abilty:Blaze/Reckless
Hold Item:Grass Gem
Moves:
Hammer Arm
Head Smash
Assurance
Solarbeam

Hammer Arm is good against Ground types.
Head Smash is great against Flying types.
Psychic don't stand a chance against Assurance.
Solarbeam takes out all bulky waters.http://www.serebiiforums.com/images/smilies2/surfinpika.gif

Mr. Marowak

was wrong about Gen6
Three things about Emboar; Rhyperior arms, Typhlosion neck, overdesign. It's a freakin' fusion!

This is true: Emboar is slow enough to function well in Trick Room. The only problem is in order for him to be good in Double Battles, he needs a healing partner which makes him a very inflexible member of the team. Why use him when you could use Rhyperior, Reuniclus, Scizor, or Machamp who don't require a Heal Beam every turn?

A VERY empressive movepool compared to the others...
Emboar cannot compare to Infernape's impressive movepool (SD, NP, Close Combat, Stone Edge, Encore, Stealth Rock, U-Turn, Endeaver, the list doesn't stop). Emboar does, however, have many options that his abiliy can assist and so he is the most focused, I would say, in terms of the starter movepools.

Pure Power Emboar

Bringer of Fiery Demise!
-Earthquake
-Flare Blitz
-Poison Jab
-Brick Break
A straightforward pure physical set, and makes use of STAB. Not much to it, just a simple set that uses Emboar's impressive attack.

i think i am gonna start typing like this, clearly it is the cool thing to do

Not gonna argue, Infernapes movepool is pretty sexy, but I am mostly talking about not having to rely on thunder punch for electric coverage, and being the only fire type able to learn boiling water makes him ok in my books. I wish he was a fire steel type so people would stop comparing him to the other to though.

Emboar Counters

Emboar Counter:
I think that Chandelure would be a great counter. It can switch in to a hammer arm/ superpower or a flare blitz. If Emboar is locked into hammer arm it’s game over. If it has flare blitz, Chandelure can burn Emboar and practically absorb its attacks. Gliscor also resists both stab moves plus wild charge so can switch in to all. Then Gliscor can get easy KO with earthquake. I think Chandelure is better though. What do you think?

I agree, both would work well as counters. Especially Chandelure (who makes a fantastic revenge killer in general). My set for him includes Psychic, which should be able to net an OHKO. As for Gliscor, there is very little that Emboar has that poses a threat to him (barring Scald), so he'd get a very easy switch in.

That's why I recommend against just slapping a Choice Item on Emboar, as it does not really function well with one.
Chandlure Burning Emboar...lol.
Gliscor DOES fear Scald, although a STAB Fire Blast or even Flare Blitz WILL do a lot of damage (Gliscor does not resist Fire).

Pre-Evolution Corner
Anyway, Pignite, point for point, outdefends Emboar when Pignite has an Eviolite. On the other hand, Pignite does not have access to Scald or even Bulk Up (it gets Curse and Work Up though). Pignite exchanges Reckless for the polar opposite Ability Thick Fat, although with Pignite's natural resistances this is rather moot. Still, if you would like to use defensive Pignite, play at your own peril. Should Emboar find itself banned from the lower tiers, Pignite can also find itself utilizing the Flame Charge or Choice sets, albeit with significantly less power due to no Reckless.
Tepig does not have a niche to find itself in for LC. If you wish to utilize Tepig, Curse, Flame Charge, and Choice sets are all still perfectly viable. After all, Tepig does still have access to Flare Blitz, Head Smash, Wild Charge, and Superpower.
