In terms of counters I see, other than the duely noted ones...
- Jellicent is immune to Fighting-type and resists Fire-type attacks but fears Wild Charge.
- All Rock, Dragon, or Water and Ground-types (any of the first three types with a combination of Ground-type) resist all of Emboar's Reckless attacks but should be wary of Superpower.
- Physically bulky Water-types like Slowbro and Suicune can switch into Flare Blitz with relative ease but are almost always 2HKO'd by either other Reckless attack. Suicune gets points for being faster and thus being able to Rest off the damage, causing more pain for Emboar while Slowbro heals as it switches out which helps with a mis-predict. Kingdra has x4 resistance to Fire-type and thus can check Emboar quite well. Bulky sets can even prevent Flare Blitz from breaking Substitutes.
- Heatran's ability to nullify Flare Blitz and general bulkiness is useful for checking while Earth Power does considerable damage. Other Flash Fire users are good but weakness to Stealth Rock and Emboar's access to Head Smash limits their switching-in ability.
- Regirock and Gigalith both have huge Defense stats and can take Flare Blitz well while not fearing Wild Charge or Head Smash. Superpower and mix sets with Grass Knot should be watched for. Another Rock-type to mention is Terakion since it also resists Head Smash.
- Water or Ground-types with powerful STAB attacks like Starmie with Surf/Hydro Pump and Excadrill with Earthquake can force Emboar out but must either predict carefully or switch in freely to avoid OHKO's.

On a side note: Fire Blast deals more damage than Scald (180 vs. 160) to things like Gliscor and Grass Knot hits Rock/Ground-types harder than Scald. Scald would be for Camerupt and Magcargo. Also going to mention Adamant CB Flare Blitz KO's standard Jolly Gliscor over 90% of the time with SR down.

@Below: True, added. Kingdra with 252 HP / 68 Defense can put up a Substitute that will never be broken by Adamant Flare Blitz.

You know, Kingdra wouldn't be all that bad. It has no fear of Scald or Flare Blitz, and a Surf or Waterfall would really hurt, and Waterfall even has that Flinch chance, which can be utilized thanks to Emboar's bad speed.

A pig on fire is a bad curse

Curse
Flare Blitz/Heat crash
Hammer Arm
Wild Charge/gyro ball

Nature: Adamant/brave
Ability: Reckless/Blaze

Good with Trick Room. Heat crash and Gyro ball if you want to play safe if it has Blaze.

Specialist

Flamethrower
Focus Blast
Scald
Over heat

Nature: Modest/ Quiet
Ability: Blaze
Item: White Herb

A Physical one is better. this is just an option for those who are considering raising one. If Quiet; will work well in Trick room.

This pig asures pain

Will-o-wisp
Swagger
Assurance
Flare Blitz

Nature: Brave
Ability: Blaze until you can get one with Reckless

Exploiting its low speed the swagger/assurance combo can work quite well. will-o-wisp would lessen the damage the foe will take from confusion but can save Emboar if they don't hurt themselves(in a way it can protect him from big damage). Flare Blitz can add some more pain if needed. in turn this set won't work very well in Trick Room.

Overall Emboar looks like he would become a good choice if you put him in a Trick room team(if his nature is Brave or Quiet). he can hold the iron ball just slow him down more.

A Terrakion could do it. A Stone Edge would outspeed it and destroy it.

Wild charge, super power, and EQ say "Hi."

Kingdra isn't that useful unless its in the rain. Since most emboars carry flame charge, the flinch is meaningless. Gliscor, as the usual physical wall, makes one of the best counters. Since it's got a good chance with either W-charge or EQ to come in for free and takes so little from emboar's fighting moves, they may as well be free too. Plus, its STAB'd EQ is super effective against emboar.

Bulky mence would be good too for the similar reasons plus the intimidate drop.

-Fire Pledge
-Focus blast
-Scald
-Grass knot

This Set should be partnered with Serperior with Grass pledge as you can create a "sea of fire" which could help chip away at the opponents hp for 4 turns and the rest is for good coverage and SpAtk options. Flamethrower could be used over grass knot or scald if you want a More relaible and stronger fire type move. This set should only be used when partnered with Serperior Or another grass pledge user.

What about a support Emboar?
-Toxic
-Protect
-Earthquake
-Sunny Day

Dragon master
Emboar is a pretty cool pokemon altough I hate his typing.

Emboar@Leftovers/life orb
Nature: adamant(255HP/255Atk)
Reckless
-Bulk up
-Flame charge
-Earthquake
-Wild charge

Bulk up and then flame charge for the speed boost and massive damage. Wild charge gets rid of water and flyers that want to try anything funny. Earthquake is just for great coverage against the much slower rock and steel types.

What about a support Emboar?
-Toxic
-Protect
-Earthquake

No STAB moves? And nothing to abuse his own Sun?

A better Support set might work like this:

Emboar w/ Leftovers
Sassy Nature (-Speed/+SDefense), 252HP, 129Def, 129Sp. Def
Will-O-Wisp/Scald
Protect/Toxic/Rest
Roar/Sunny Day/Sleep Talk
Hammer Arm/Flamethrower

Will-o-Wisp has a 75% chance to inflict a burn, factoring accuracy, while Scald has a 30% chance, but also deals damage, noticably hitting fire-types, which are immune to burning, for Super-Effective damage. Burn is a great status, cutting the opponent's attack in half, as well as ranking up gradual residual damage. Protect can help stall for burn damage and Lefties recovery, though Toxic allows you to run a dual-status set, adding an 85% chance to badly poison (factoring in accuracy), helping to break down walls much faster. Roar, well, phases and racks up hazards damage. However, if you have reason for sun, and either want a back-up sun setter or can't get your hands on a Drought Ninetales, Sunny Day can work too. The last slot prevents you from being Taunt bait (Though Scald prevents being shut down by taunt, too)- Hammer Arm is the better choice, coming off your greater attack stat and hitting 5 types super-effectively, but Flamethrower may be better if you're running Sunny Day. Alternatively, you can abuse Tepig getting Sleep Talk as an egg move and run a Resttalk set, which could be interesting. The Sassy nature is chosen over a Relaxed nature as burn will already be cutting physical attack's power in half.

'Wisp always inflicts burn, and has a 75% accuracy.
And Toxic always inflicts Poison, and has 85% accuracy

That's... what I said.

adding an 85% chance to badly poison (factoring in accuracy)

Emboar doesn't have the defenses to pull of a stalling or support team.
Just go all out Attack, or all out Sp. Attack.

HP Value. That is all. He may excel at offense, but he can most certainly pull off a support set in the lower tiers.

Emboar @Leftovers
Modest
EVs: 252 HP, 252 Sp.atk, 4 Spe

Flamethrower
Scald
Hidden Power (Dragon)
Grass Knot

Flamethrower provides STAB, and when combined with Hidden Power (Dragon),
gets perfect coverage. Scald beats ground type pokemon, and Grass Knot takes care
of heavy pokemon.

Why would he carry Flame Charge? It's only a base power of 50, and the speed boost really won't help that much.

Incorrect- It would help him tons on an offensive set. As in, he can actually outspeed things after a Nitro Charge. A +1 boost is the same as holding a Choice Scarf.
