White Kyurem
White Kyurem, similar to Reshiram, had a big impact on Ubers. With a base 170 Special Attack Stat, only second to Deoxys-A, it has the most powerful Draco Meteor and Ice-type STABs in the game. Even Blissey is 2HKO'd by Choice Specs Draco Meteor, and 4/0 Kyogre is 2HKO'd by Blizzard. B2W2 also gave it a bit of salvation in the form of Fusion Flare and Earth Power, which patches up its previously lacking movepool. If that weren't enough, it has 125 / 90 / 100 defenses, rivaling even Dialga. With great power comes some downfalls though. Its movepool is still fairly barren compared to other Uber titans such as Dialga. While its typing is one of the best in ubers offensively, it leaves it weak to four attacking types, three of which are plentiful in ubers. While its base 95 speed lets it outrun the common base 90s, it leaves it tied which Rayquaza, and outpaced by many other dominant threats, including the feared Choice Scarf Palkia. These setbacks can be overcome however, with the right team support, and White Kyurem will show its true potential of razing large cities.
Ability
Turboblaze: Negates the effects of abilities that prevent attacks from landing. This includes Sturdy, Multiscale, and Flash Fire. This means it can OHKO Skarmory and Forretress at full health, usually OHKO Multiscale Lugia with Ice Beam, and hit Heatran with Fusion Flare, all provided it is positive-natured, and has Choice Specs. Great ability overall, since White Kyurem will always want to break down these walls.
Choice Specs
Item: Choice Specs
Nature: Modest / Timid
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
- Draco Meteor
- Ice Beam / Blizzard
- Fusion Flare / Earth Power / Dragon Pulse
- Earth Power / Focus Blast
Choice Specs White Kyurem is arguably the most powerful wallbreaker in ubers. Ice Beam is the main STAB, and is perfectly suited for a metagame where many common Pokemon are weak to Ice-type moves. Its so powerful it will OHKO Max HP Multiscale Lugia 88% of the time, as Turboblaze ignores Multiscale. Blizzard has the power to destroy almost anything, so is an option if you run a timid nature, but requires hail to be reliable, and it is hard to maintain in ubers. Draco Meteor is White Kyurem's main selling point. It is the most powerful move in ubers, only potentially second to the rare Choice Specs Deoxys-A's Psycho Boost. Spam it and it will even 2HKO 252 / 252 Kyogre, and that variant isn't even used very much. Fusion Flare is for Steel-types who are resistant, neutral, or immune to the rest of your moves, although if your team doesn't have sun support, Earth Power is a respectable replacement. Dragon Pulse is useful in situations where you think you'll have to stay in londer. Earth Power is mainly recommended in the last slot to hit the remaining grounded Steel-types who are neutral to Fusion Flare, such as Heatran. Focus Blast can be used if you are using Earth Power in the third slot.
Non-Choice
Item: Life Orb / Haban Berry / Leftovers
Nature: Timid / Modest
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
- Draco Meteor
- Ice Beam / Blizzard
- Focus Blast / Earth Power / Fusion Flare
- Roost / Substitute / Focus Blast
While the Choice Specs set aims to tear through teams with the sheer power of its attacks, this set aims to last longer and be able to switch attacks. Ice Beam is still the main STAB move, which still scores an OHKO on max HP Groudon and most formes of Arceus weak to it aft r a bit of prior damage if it holds a Life Orb. Blizzard will guarantee a OHKO on all these, but once again needs hail to be reliable. Draco Meteor will still OHKO Calm Mind Dragon Arceus, and will usually OHKO it after it has gotten a Calm Mind. Focus Blast is recommended in the third slot to give it perfect neutral coverage, but the other two coverage moves are usable if you don't like its poor accuracy. Roost keeps Kyurem healthy, Substitute takes advantage of the switches Kyurem causes, and Focus Blast can be used if you are running Earth Power or Fusion Flare in the third slot.
Choice Scarf
Item: Choice Scarf
Nature: Hasty / Timid
EVs: 4 Atk / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
- Draco Meteor
- Ice Beam / Blizzard
- Focus Blast / Fusion Flare / Earth Power
- Outrage / Focus Blast / Sleep Talk
White Kyurem's staggering base 170 base Special Attack and decent base 95 Speed make it one of the best Choice Scarf users in the tier, as it still hits very hard without any boosts. The moveset is similar to the other two sets but is slightly modified to defeat some Pokemon that it normally has trouble getting past. Outrage is viable in the last slot on this set due to White Kyurem's boosted speed, which allows to revenge kill more threats. It also allows it to 2HKO Blissey on the switch, and OHKO Calm Mind Latias. Sleep Talk allows White Kyurem to absorb Darkrai's Dark Void and potentially defeat it.
Other Options
Kyurem-W's movepool is pretty shallow. Stone Edge can hit Ho-Oh, but nothing much else. Icy Wind is a gimmick, but can slow down switch-ins. It generally is a waste of a moveslot though.
Counters
The only Pokemon that can truly safely switch into Kyurem-W is Chansey, who is even 2HKO'd if it has taken a bit of prior damage. Revenge killing Kyurem-W is a bit easier though. Choice Scarf Palkia outspeeds any variant and will OHKO with Spacial Rend after a bit of prior damage, while Draco Meteor will OHKO regardless. Choice Scarf Terrakion does a similar job, except it strikes at Kyurem-W's lower Defense and will OHKO it with Close Combat. The Non-Choice set also falls if you can predict what move if is about to use. For example, Palkia doesn't mind a Fusion Flare at all, and outpaces it naturally. Ho-Oh with a lot of investment in Special Defense also walls it bar a rare Stone Edge, but is usually 2HKO's by Draco Meteor. Lastly, Kyurem-W is vulnerable to all forms of entry hazards, particularly Stealth Rock. Losing 1/4 of its health every time it switches in is no fun at all.
Black Kyurem
With one look at its stats, you may think Kyurem-B is a monster. base 170 Attack passes even Rampardos, and is only second to Deoxys-A. It wields the most powerful Outrage in the game as well. It can easily rip through unprepared teams with it. However, its movepool is what largely lets it down; It lacks a reliable physical Ice-type STAB move. Like its brother, it is vulnerable to all entry hazards and weak to common attacks. Despite these shortcomings, it will still be a force to be reckoned with.
Mixed Attacker
Item: Life Orb
Nature: Naive
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpA / 252 Spe
- Dragon Claw / Outrage
- Ice Beam
- Fusion Bolt
- Roost / Focus Blast / Substitute
Like Zekrom, Kyurem-B can function as a great mixed attacker thanks to its huge base 170 Attack in addition to its great base 120 Special Attack. Dragon Claw is the most reliable STAB move, dealing heavy damage to those who don't resist it. Outrage has the power to crush large cities, but due to Kyurem-B's middling speed, it might not be too appealing. Ice Beam hits reasonably hard, despite minimal investment, and can be useful to pick off Landorus, Gliscor, and Shaymin-S, as well as taking a large chuck out of Groudon. Fusion Bolt OHKOs Kyogre and Calm Mind Manaphy after a little prior damagea nd 2HKOs Lugia and max HP Arceus formes weak to it. Roost keeps Kyurem-B healthy, as it is going to take Life Orb damage. Focus Blast 2HKOs Ferrothorn, which would be a problem, while Substitute protects Kyurem-B from status and eases prediction.
Substitute + Freeze Shock
Item: Life Orb / Leftovers
Nature: Jolly
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe
- Outrage / Dragon Claw
- Freeze Shock
- Fusion Bolt
- Substitute
Note: I haven't tried this set yet, so all this is based on my knowledge of the metagame.
This set is a bit gimmicky, but could work out with he right prediction. It works best when Ice-resistant Pokemon are cleared from you opponents team, you know what all your opponent's Pokemon are, and they are slower. The idea is to set up Substitute as your opponent switches, then if the Pokemon that they bring in resists Outrage and Fusion Bolt or can take them, select Freeze Shock. The substitute ensures that you won't be statused while you are in a semi-sitting duck situation. Freeze Shock will OHKO Bulky Excadrill, who can be a common switch-in to Kyurem-B, as well as take significant chunks out of Defensive Dialga and Ho-Oh. Its so powerful, it will OHKO Lugia without any prior damage. Note that this set is one of those "High-risk, high reward" sets, so only use it if you have teamates that can cover certain threats to it.
Choice Scarf
Item: Choice Scarf
Nature: Jolly
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpA / 252 Spe
- Outrage
- Ice Beam
- Fusion Bolt
- Dragon Claw / Sleep Talk
Like Kyurem-W, Kyurem-B can run an effective Choice Scarf set thanks to its ridiculous attack stat an decent Speed. Outrage is recommended in the first slot as Kyurem-B has the speed to outpace most unboosted threats that switch in. Ice Beam still hit fairly hard and is usable due to the large amount of ubers weak to Ice-type moves. Fusion Bolt will OHKO Kyogre and Manaphy after Stealth Rock, as well as KO both formes of Tornadus and do a decent amount of damage to Ho-Oh. Dragon Claw is in the last slot so you don't have to lock yourself into Outrage in some situations. Sleep Talk allows you to absorb Dark Void while still being a threat.
Other Options
Stone Edge always OHKOs Ho-Oh, but that's about all it accomplishes. Earth Power OHKOs Heatran, but that's about it. Choice Band might sound like a possibility, but Kyurem-B sadly lacks the movepool for it.
Counters
Kyurem-B is hard to switch into due to the sheer strength of its moves. However, there are some that can switch into it. Ferrothorn can switch into anything but Focus Blast and hit it Gyro Ball. Bulky Excadrill beats all sets bu the Substitute + Freeze Shock set, but can't take repeated Ice Beams to well. Almost any Garchomp can switch into Fusion Bolt and will OHKO with Outrage regardless if it is boosted or not, while iKyurem-B will switch out if it is Choice-locked. Revenge killing it is significantly easier. Choice Scarf users such as Palkia and Terrakion will destroy it with their STAB moves.
