    Just a notice, we recently discovered that someone got into a moderator account and started hard deleting a load of key and legacy threads...around 150 threads have been lost dating back to 2007 and some weeks ago so we can't roll the forums back.
    Luckily no personal data could be accessed by this moderator, and we've altered the permissions so hard deleting isn't possible in the future
    Sorry for any inconvenience with this and sorry for any lost posts.
  • Hi all. We had a couple of reports of people's signatures getting edited etc. in a bad way. You can rest assured this wasn't done by staff and nobody has compromised any of our databases.

    However, remember to keep your passwords secure. If you use similar passwords to elsewhere which has been accessed, people and even bots may be able to access your account.

    We always recommend using unique passwords, and two-factor authentication if you are able. Make sure you're as secure as possible

I don't think that means Oshawott's ability is Shell Armor. I think it has Torrent.

I think it will showcase Torrent. Out of all 3 main starter abilities, Torrent has been seen the least, only used by Barry's Empoleon once. Ash's Sceptile and Infernape has shown Overgrow and Blaze respectivly. Also Oshawott seems to be the main starter of the Unova starter that Ash owns, so it fits with Torrent more

I like the idea of the writers deciding to start showcasing dreamworld abilities, but it's not likely to start happening. Besides Oshawott's ability was already confirmed to be Torrent. Remember BW10, when Oshawott got knocked out by Trip's Tranquill's Super Luck ability? If Oshawott had Shell Armor that wouldn't have happened.

Maybe Oshawott does have Shell Armor, but it doesn't work the same as it does in the games? We've seen things like this before, so I wouldn't be surprised if Oshawott really did have Shell Armor. It would certainly explain how Oshawott is always able to deflect attacks with its shell. At first I thought it was just a little quirk, but I'm starting to think that it has something to do with its hidden ability.

It would fit, Cilan saying that he's never seen an Oshawott use its Scalchop to deflect attacks.

And since it is Cilan, he's probably seen quite a bit Oshawott. A rare hidden ability would explain why no Oshawott's used its Scalchop so defensively before.

But until said otherwise, I'm still clinging to the hope that Pokemon have more than one ability. Their normal ability and their hidden ability (aka dreamworld ability).

But I think Moltanic has a point, maybe Oshawott's shell is too small for the ability to activate, but if we find out later that Oshawott's ability (and only ability) is shell armor and its explained that it prevents critical damage, BW010 is going to look worse than it already does,

It would have probably been mention by Cilan or someone if Oshawott had Shell Armor as an ability, but I won't discount anything considering how much has been made of Oshawott defending with his shell.

Using its shell is hardly different from Sinvy using vine whip to parent emolga. I doubt its anything special. It would be cool don't get me wrong, but I just don't see it happening.

I'd like it to have both, but at this moment I'd prefer it to have Torrent, as I am wishing for Oshawott/Dewott/Samurott to be his main powerhouse this generation, like Sceptile and Infernape before him.

Honestly I think that Oshawott just has Torrent, and the shell is just using his body to his advantage. Correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't Ash come up with the strategy in the first place anyway?

Actually, in BW 10 the concept of critical hit was used (through the ability "Super Luck") because of which Trip's Tranquill could easily defeat Ash's Oshawott & Tepig.

This was mentioned by "Moltanic" in a post above.

As for what Oshawott's ability might be, i am not completely sure. Maybe at present its ability is "Torrent" but the writers may add the DW concept in the anime in such a way that few of the groups pokemons ability gets changed because of some unexpected happening in the DW..

There are a lot of signs pointing to Shell Armor, but we haven't seen it survive in battle after getting down to the 1/3 of its health, so we might get to see Torrent.That would be really cool, Ash finding out like 50 episodes after he got Oshawott that is somehow had Shell Armor. That would be fun to have against Brycen and have Oshawott so Frost Breath wouldn't be a critical hit!

Of course Oshawott will have Torrent, he's the main starter so far in Unova. Let Snivy get that awesome Hidden Ability is has and let whatever Hidden Ability Tepig possesses.

Contrary to that thought, I don't think Tepig will have Thick Fat and the same goes for Snivy's hidden ability, whatever it is called. If Tepig does in fact fight Vanillite in episode 34, and Vanillite uses an ice type move like Ice Beam against, Tepig, we will find out.

But just because Oshawott has a Shell/Scalchop doesn't mean it has Shell Armor and yes, the thread has been answered, it does not have Shell Armor.

His only basis for that assumption was the fact that Oshawott used its scalchop for defense without even a hint of consideration for the fact that THAT MIGHT BE THIS PARTICULAR OSHAWOTT'S FIGHTING STYLE!
