I'm not really fussed about the gym leaders having lower levelled Pokemon or even team changes at all. It's been years since I played Gold so I can barely remember anything about it.

Exactly. I think we all hoped too much that there were going to be higher leveled gyms because of how low they were the first time 'round that people believed that GameFreak had to make the Gyms harder this time what with all this new-fangalled stuffs we've been given in the past two generations.
Do i wish the gyms were higher? Yes. Do I wish the rosters had some of the new Pokemon? Yes. But you have to remember that GSC is set before the D/P/Pt games so some of the evolutions haven't been discovered yet.
I'm happy with a glorified remake, if that's all it really is. Especially since the original games are all dying on everyone and going back to play them isn't possible.
