51 ain't no filler, I feel it's just cuz he doesn't like Liko, Dot losing while that would suck, could lead to further possibilities down the road for more development of her and Quaxly and Clavell/the Explorers is also an neat bit of story to get us wondering where the story will go.

What would you want Roy to lose AGAIN to brassius? This debate is so pointless lol. If thats the metric you chose to have then Dot has more onscreen wins ( her mom, spinel, urthworm) than either of them. Like fr.

Winning one battle does not mean that one is the main warrior.
Besides, Roy only won because (unlike Liko and Dot) he had an advantage over his opponent.
I get what you're saying, but all I can see is that he won while they lost.

Roy went above and beyond the purpose of his match, which was to learn how to terastallize. It was as if the writers wanted to indicate who we should be focusing on when it comes to battles

I don't think that is at all what they're trying to do. Roy already lost to him once and had a massive type advantage against the false tree when it changes, while Liko and Dot where at a huge disadvantage.

Liko>>>>>Ash
Roy really needed that win and he already lost to this guy the first time they battled. I also don't mind Liko losing since she's already had on screen wins before and is good at battling. It'd only bother me if she wasn't active or not allowed to finish or win a battle like a certain few of the female protagonists from the Ash series, which isn't the case.

Reminder about this rule:

2) This is a containment thread for a specific type of spoilers not all people want to see. Things that belong here are infraction-worthy to post elsewhere.

3 people have just been banned for a week for posting spoilers outside this thread. Let's try to avoid having that number increase any further, shall we?

Don't remind me: Post BW series were especially bad with that, especially XY where they REALLY tried hammering home how much of a stock shounen love interest Serena was, down to needing Ash to save the day for her. They even nerfed Korrina from the games.

But I will leave it at that, but it's that trend that makes me cautious.

This kinda begs the question about “they were at type disadvantage!!!” because did the school specifically say they had to use their starters in the Gym matches? Ironically enough Liko’s entire team is weak to Bug Types but couldn’t Dot have used her other one?

Its proably moreso due to how Horizons is written with everyone using there main Pokemon more for battles, then their other pokemon.

Oh then in that case Dot’s loss was potentially preventable (not that type advantage was seen as this end all be all anyways) but she might’ve had a better shot. Liko is the only one out the three who has Pokémon weak to Gym leader she was battling.

I'm honestly going to pissed off if EP51 really IS fillery, like Floragato not even learning a new move or anything. I get Roy is the more battle-oriented out of the three but dear god. I swear I was worried this would happen when some of the staff changed.
Even if Floragato doesn't learn a move its still not filler, covers Floragato and Likos relationship and what not.

In universe there was no rule, but it makes sense from a writing standpoint why they all three used their starters. First time Tera and all that.

Dot also had no type advantage. Electric moves are super effective against water, not the other way around.

They were referring to the teams as a whole. I think what they meant was "Liko is the only one out of the three whos entire team was weak to the Gym Leader they were battling"

As for all team members (Dot's second Pokémon is Tinkatink), Steel and Fairy also have no advantage over the Electric type.

Looked at their twitter feed, along with others like them. Noticed that a lot of them feel like the hardcore Ash fans who hate that he was replaced.
