Cook with your Nintendo DS

Oh my god... Nintendo wasn't kidding about expanding the market. They're releasing... a DS cookbook!

Not Cooking Mama!

So apparently Cooking Mama is not the only cooking related software that’s going to hit the DS. Nintendo Talk! DS Cooking Nav is a digital cook book containing recipes from the the Tsuji Cooking Academy in Tokyo. You just search for a recipe, select it, and set the DS down. The software will then speak to you, explaining how to cook a dish step by step. If you missed something you can just say “return” to hear directions again. The software can also recommend what types of dishes would go well together for an entire meal.

Talk about interesting uses for hardware… I could’ve never pictured the DS being used for stuff like this when it was announced. I love cooking, and this would certainly be a buy for me if they ever released it in America. One wonders what other types of “utilities” are in the cards for the DS… anything seems possible now. Pick-up Lines DS! Between this and Cooking Mama… I would certainly bag a date with my level 2 cooking skills with my DS +1.

I have to say it's a very clever idea, and it's such a non-game that it's bound to attract people who would never normally buy a gaming handheld. I have no idea if it'll ever see the light of day in the UK, but if it's popular I suppose it's possible - after all, the same thing happened with Brain Training.

Very odd, yet very clever.

I dunno lol
Oh yeah! Time to bake some CoOkEhS!

...>__<....

So, yeah. This thing probably will attract non-gamers and get advertised everywhere. Me? I think it would be cool to use, so I might get one. After all, I guess I could say my cooking skills need polishing......a lot....

Interesting info. I wonder if Sony will see this (I'm predicting) *boom* amongst casual gamers, and try to release something similar for their handheld.

What's next for the DS? DS: sUpAh CaNvaS!

Well, of course it's going to be an attempt for new people to buy a DS. Why be so critical about it?

I think the idea is incredible. And, to be honest... it's a potential buy for me. I'd just worry about my DS Lite getting all messy in the kitchen!

I think the same. Useless because a cookbook is cheaper than a DS + the card.

Omega Pirate

shove it up ya bum!
^But cookbooks don't talk to you.

I like the idea, especially when I found out that it talks to you, that eliminates having to look at the cookbook while your cooking. Though I wouldn't want to spill any food on my DS :s

This might work, though there is a danger of spilling boiling water or something on your DS. But then again, you could put it somewhere not dangerous and have the voice talk to you. But what if it tells you the instructions too fast? It could be interesting, if the Big N gets it right.

I don't know!
Oh. It talks? Well, that changes my opinion then. But all the same, there's a danger of destroying your DS with boiling water, or reading the instructions too fast, but I'm not getting it anyway.

You mean like Brain Age, which has been reportedly doing quite well here in America on top of being a 2 million+ seller in Japan?

I was hoping for an actual cooking game, where it gives you instructions, and you have to follow them by selecting items on the touch screen and manipulating them with the stylus, like cutting vegetables or stirring water in a pot, and your actions and skills would influence the end result. It could even let you experiment with your own original recipies too.

I think that a game could that could do very well on the Wii actually, Will. All it needs is the Holly-esque Dr. Kawashima head in a chefs hat. :3

And besides, there's always Cooking Mama, though I can understand if that doesn't exactly satisfy your wants.

Am I the only one who thinks this is an awsome idea? If it hits America I would totally buy it at launch.
