I've thought about this a lot, and if you saw my recently posted idea for a game, it would be easy to understand that I've actually began scripting such a film. I'm not saying I'm the man for the job, but I do think it would be a great idea.
It doesn't necessarily have to be live action, or even a film for that matter, it could be animated, but the vision I have is simply more adult-oriented. Meaning, it wouldn't be aimed at the generation of kids buying Black and White as their first game, it would be aimed at the kids like me who grew up with Red, Blue, Gold and Silver, and are now adults.
For example, in the Pokemon Manga, the Pokemon world is thematically much darker. Team Rocket has a much more complex story, including corruption in the Elite 4, and the great story arc of The Masked Man, who ruled over the Rocket Empire between Giovanni and the Admins, and who ended up being none other than Pryce. If anything, I'd say that the story of Pryce and Celebi is more akin to what the creators had in mind then what actually comes out as the product marketed for children.
If it was me, I'd start with a film about Hoenn, then the famous story of Ash, then perhaps Sinnoh, or go straight from the Red story into the sequel, my favorite, the GS arc. Since there's so many chapters to the Pokemon saga, it could be a lucrative franchise in film in the vain of Star Wars, much like Pokemon is in child-oriented media. A more realistic, drama and story-driven take on Pokemon, full of tragedy, comedy, and of course, Team Rocket blasting off again. If you're familiar with the manga, you will know what I'm talking about.
So the question is, do you guys think that my idea for a Pokemon film or series directed at the now-adult hardcore Pokemon fanbase is viable? Would you go see that in theatres?EDIT: It does not have to be a live action film or series, I'm just asking if you guys think that something based off the Manga (which is much darker and would appeal to an older audience) would be viable. Again, I LOVEEEE the Masked Man arc in the GS chapter, and I think it would work in some form of televised or filmed media. IT DOES NOT HAVE TO BE LIVE ACTION. Thanks!
