    Just a notice, we recently discovered that someone got into a moderator account and started hard deleting a load of key and legacy threads...around 150 threads have been lost dating back to 2007 and some weeks ago so we can't roll the forums back.
    Luckily no personal data could be accessed by this moderator, and we've altered the permissions so hard deleting isn't possible in the future
    Sorry for any inconvenience with this and sorry for any lost posts.
  • Hi all. We had a couple of reports of people's signatures getting edited etc. in a bad way. You can rest assured this wasn't done by staff and nobody has compromised any of our databases.

    However, remember to keep your passwords secure. If you use similar passwords to elsewhere which has been accessed, people and even bots may be able to access your account.

    We always recommend using unique passwords, and two-factor authentication if you are able. Make sure you're as secure as possible

Could the Battle Club be a Replacement for Contests?

I didn't mean the machanics of contests were similar to the Don Battle Club, just that it would take up time and let characters besides Ash battle like contests.

Well the difference is Ash will probably always be in these battle clubs.

In the Contests he stayed out of 90% of them. Ash was only ever in 3 Contests, out of the what...nearly 30 contest episodes they made between AG and DP combined?

yes but if they do a water type tourney, or perhaps a grass type tourney they can bring back ash's old pokemon for a full team maybe when they are on the right side of unova.

Urgh so many stupid posts that didn't even take the time to understand what Thunder meant, seriously....

He means a side competition, we know its completelly diferent, what he means is if it could work like contests aka, once in a while have one of this tournaments, nothing to do with what it looks like.

Anyway like I said in other thread I hope it works out like that and we get atleast 2 more tournaments before the end of the region.

It'd be nice, more than anything it's something for Iris and Cilan to be regularly involved with. If it does, I don't think it will appear heavily, but we may see a tournament or two more, and with Don George seemingly like Nurse Joy and Officer Jenny, we will still have many Battle Club appearances, even if it's not a tournament.

Amazed at how many people misinterpreted the original post though. Of course it is nothing like Contests, it's a 'replacement' for it, so to speak.

That doesn't have to do with anything though. I mean sure they are different but if contests are present in Unova and this Battle Club has been featured frequently, we had a 5 VS 5 battle & a tournament already, who knows what else might be featured in the Battle Club.

I like the idea of type specific tournaments. Even things similar to the sumo tournament and the Tauros tournament in Johto are possibilities. If the entire BW series is spent in Unova, a good way to give the reserves some screentime would be by having a Don Battole Tournament featuring only pokemon from foreign lands. Iris and Cilan wouldn't be able to participate, but Ash would shine here. And the reserves wouldn't have to take the Unova pokemon's screentime away in the League

Agreed.

Thunderblade isn't saying that they are similar to contests when it comes to how they operate, just the fact that they could be a side challenge. Ash is the main character and obviously gym battles are important, but in DP, contests have been featured a lot as well, not as much as gym battles though.

Plus I understand what you meant Thunderblade, some battles do seem like contests battles. Especially Snivy vs. Pawniard, look at Metal Claw vs. Leaf Storm and when Snivy uses Vine Whip. We know they aren't contests though.

On topic, I wouldn't mind if we see Battle Clubs a lot more often even a couple more Don Battles. But honestly, I see the Don Battles having some sort of big tournament for a filler arc afterwards

Careful? Where's the fun in that?
Anything to keep this season from having a whole bunch filler episodes... I'm game for having a tournament every 40 episodes or so, cause not only does it show improvement in the characters, we also get to see things battle more often

I can summarize the main post as "its not replacing contests but replacement for small mini-arcs".

In which I respond, we basically knew this since the preparation for the second gym battle.

It's probably just the same as the Double Battle Tournament from DP nothing more. They might have another one in... Opelucid, but, I doubt it'll be replacing contests.

It seems that way at times. The Don Battle Tourny feels like it's the BW equivalent of the Jubilife Tourny from DP.

When it came to the games, the Contests added absolutely nothing, and got even lamer for DPPt.

But no, I don't really feel the Battle Clubs were replacements for Contests. I always felt these were something the Pokemon Universe needed from Day One, especially during the days of RBGY where you cannot rechallenge any trainer and the only worthwhile means of training was to challege the E4 over and over again.
