The Pokemon games have always had gyms for different types, so that's unlikely to change. Nor do I actually want it to change. The gyms aren't meant to be difficult, becuase they are there to get people to learn about the different typings and so that younger players, mainly eight-year-old's can easilly beat the game.

Essentially the Gyms were showcasing how types matched up because when Red/Blue came out, that was the largest factor of battling. Now, 6 generations into the franchise, while types are still important, the battle system has expanded beyond just matching up types and includes held items, natures, gender, stat changes, weather effects, double battles, triple battles, physical/special split, even a little into height/weight.
An Advanced Gym system, possibly post E4, would be a good merit into exploring and explaining these strategies to players, even possibly implementing a level-cap or level-adjustment for challengers so we don't end up with low-leveled gyms pre-E4 just to make room for more in the postgame.
And with each generation adding to the battle system, I can't wait for a grid-based tactics to be added into the main series like how Mystery Dungeon and Conquest moves are executed. That seems to be the natural progression into the pokemon battle system.

Would you like if terrain had an influence on battles?

First of all, I hope that I am not the only one who ever thought on this.

We read in descriptions of Pokemons that some are fast in aquatic enviroments while others are good in rocky terrains. In the anime, we could see the artifical arenas and each of them will have one or two types that will have some advantage due startand features. For example, an arena that is rocky will give a nice advantage to rock, ground and steel type Pokemons; an arena that is covered with snow will give an advantage to ice type Pokemons; an arena that contains lava pools will give an advantage to fire type Pokemons (like Blaine's gym in the anime); an arena that is most made of water will give an advantage to water Pokemons as they're nice swimmers.

However this is well-applied only in the anime, and in the game we notice that it is indifferent whether a Pokemon battles on a snow mountain, on a volcan, on a desert, on the ocean, etc. You should also have been asked yourselves: how can a fish Pokemon (like Goldeen, Magikarp, Lumineon) fight on the routes, cavern and towers of battles without water? Well, after all this speech, let's move to the question of the thread.

Would you like that the terrain where the battle occurs influenced slightly the performance of the Pokemons that are on it?

As I said... slightly! It cannot be a high influence because it should influence people to build their teams based mostly on terrains. When the Pokemon is at an enviroment it naturally lives in, that could benefit the Pokemon a little (like water type battling a non-water type in a ocean route). They terrain could raise all the stats slightly, or moves, or even just one stat. And when I say slightly, it should be a raise of 5% (10% would be the limit, though being crucial). On this way, the terrain influence in the game wasn't going to be decisive like in the anime (Ash's Pikachu defeated an Arcanine in Poke League on episode #78 by electrocuting the water), and I player couldn't say that it lost the battle because he was in disadvantage in the terrain the battle occured. Below are some examples of terrain and type of Pokemons that might benefit from it:

-desert, rocky - lowers speed of all non-ground, rock, steel, flying Pokemons
-volcano - the heat in air would powers up fire moves, and lowers ice moves (5%)
-snow - the cold air powers up ice moves, and lowers fire moves (5%)
-lake, sea - water Pokemons get faster, ups electric moves (5%)
-cavern - raises dark and ghost Pokémons' evasivenss as they like to hide in shadows
-forest - raise all the stats in 5% as forest is the natural enviroment for all the bugs

Post your opinion/criticism about that!

I really like this. Terrain would influence things in life, and should as well in Pokemon. Even the slightest advantage could turn the tables. However, how would you decide the terrain in competitive battling?

Seems pointless, especially considering most of the significant battles, both in-game (Gym Leaders, E4, Battle Tower/Subway, PWT) and competitively, happen in an indoor setting. All this would serve to do is make in-game trainer/wild Pokemon battles more annoying.

While I do like the concept, KillerDrago does have a point. However, they could easily change it so that Gym/League Battles took place in a terrain that suited the opponent (most Gyms are fitted with a corresponding environment anyways, so it would make sense), which I think would actually present a nice challenge.

This is why I wouldn't like it. Maybe it could be part of challenge mode if it returns.

I like the idea as well. Most gyms are fitted for their element or type that would make gyms and elite 4 pretty challenging.

icebolt

Aerial Ace
I like the idea. And it wouldn't only apply to wild/random trainer battles because as someone has already said gyms have specialised battlefields that fit their type.

The terrain in gym battles is fitted to the pokemon gym leader so that counts the terrain and it does change in the pokemon league. This is a great idea and I would love it only if you can turn them off during online battles, but in game HECK YEA

in-game it would be ok, but in competitive there would have to be a neutral field that wouldn't bias towards any type(s)

octoboy

I Crush Everything
I'm mostly with the people who wonder if this would really have a difference. Terrain already does affect how certain moves work; secret power, nature power and camouflage all change depending where a fight takes place. However, as KillerDraco points out, this rarely effects the more significant battles, as as gym battles tend to always have neutral terrains, so little changes in fights that aren't against wild pokémon or CPU opponents of little significance.

The idea of making terrain affect the battle more and giving gyms differing terrains sounds like an interesting one, but I don't see how that will work in competitive fights. As it is (or at least was in the most recent game I battled another player in), fights between two human players take place in a neutral-terrain arena, and I don't quite see how it would be possible to have terrain become an important element in competitive battles if it's always neutral.

Giving players a choice of arena to fight in might make things interesting, but it could pretty easily become a nuisance; like somebody said, people could use this to give themselves an unfair advantage, and people might end up being forced to come up with a bunch of different teams to work in each terrain. It wouldn't work too well for the arena to be random either, as if that affected the battle in any major way, it would be pretty easy for people to fail because of bad luck instead of bad strategy, which might also be annoying.

In that case, it might be better to leave terrain out of the 2-player game, but that would make it kind of a waste of a game mechanic considering the low level of skill involved in the 1-player game. So in a way, I can see why the programmers haven't made it such a huge thing. I've actually heard that the introduction of weather already created a mess in competitive battle. Throwing in the complication of the arena might just make matters far worse.

PKMNinja

Black Ninja
It would not work at all. For one the only battles that would be outside would be trainer and wild pokemon. Not the elite four where it is indoors. Then if you account the crystal elite four each one does have something else like lava pools. They would have to go back the way things were back in crystal. Instead of making new ideas for the elite four and gym leaders.

I actually like this idea. It would add a bit of variety ingame and make it more challenging. As for gym leaders and e4, just make it like the Pokemon league in the anime where the arena changes.
As for multiplayer, I understand how it could bring an even more unfair hax factor, but to fix this, we could give 2 options.
One, is the plain arena we've been using, the other is a random arena is chosen. Even if they don't use the arena effects in multiplayer, just make it an aesthetic change

The Musician

Heracross trainer
This would be cool if it only applied to gyms (and MAYBE the E4). It would add another level of strategy to the more important battles and not bother with making wild encounters/training potentially more tedious.

Changes to the Honey System

There are more variety of honeys mentioned below.

Different kinds of honeys are found in different kinds of areas through Honey Gather.

All types of honeys are depicted as one hexagonal cell and not honey in jar.

For honey attracting a certain type, the mechanics will first check if the wild pokemon to appear matches the respective type. If not, it will generate a new wild pokemon again.

Minor change in the effect of Honey Gather

If the user is not holding any item, it has a 20% chance of obtaining a honey at the end of the turn.

Instead of having Sweet Honey, the user picks up a type of honey depending on the location, as mentioned above.

In a location, there are three types of honey the user may obtain. They have 60%, 30% and 10% chance of being the one the user receives respectively.

Normally, the better the effects of the honey, the most likely it will be on the rarer side of the scale.

Create your own honeys!
