Now for the fourth/fifth entry in my "unused type combo" series. This one will be one evolution line that crosses two off the list. It also is one of my older ideas but I polished it up a lot today.

Striwi (I don't remember how I came up with this name; something+kiwi)
The GROUNDED Pokémon
Ground
1'03", 12.2 lbs
Ability: Big Pecks
Gender Ratio: Equal
Egg Group: Field, Flying
Dex1: While STRIWI do have wings, they are vestigial and completely useless. As such, they cannot fly.
Dex2: STRIWI lost the ability to fly roughly 30000 years ago. Even then, they only would have been able to fly very short distances.

Striwi evolves at Lvl. 25 into either Dudo if its male, or Cassobeaut if its female.

Dudo (Dude+Dodo)
The STRIKE Pokémon
Ground/Fighting
3'00", 61.6 lbs
Ability: Defiant
Gender Ratio: 100% Male
Egg Group: Field, Flying
Dex1: To compensate for its flightlessness, DUDO has trained its legs to be effective weapons. They train fourteen hours a day by breaking rocks.
Dex2: While DUDO are completely fine with other members of its evolutionary line, they will attack any other DUDO. This fight will continue until one surrenders and leaves the group.

Dudo evolves into Screamu when given a Dawn Stone.

Screamu (Scream+Emu)
The BERSERK Pokémon
Ground/Fighting
5'01", 103.4 lbs
Ability: Defiant
Gender Ratio: 100% Male
Egg Group: Field, Flying
Dex1: SCREAMU attack first and think later. When fighting, their brains don't even register pain.
Dex2: SCREAMU are dim-witted, but destructive. One region had a war with them nearly a century ago and lost.

Cassobeaut (Cassowary+Beautiful)
The CHARMING Pokémon
Ground/Fairy
3'03", 53.8 lbs
Ability: Cute Charm
Gender Ratio: 100% Female
Egg Group: Field, Flying
Dex1: CASSOBEAUT use their beauty to stun potential enemies and run away. If the enemies follow, a SCREAMU or OSTRESS is likely to be waiting.
Dex2: CASSOBEAUT use their beauty to stun potential enemies and run away. If the enemies follow, CASSOBEAUT will attack in full force.

Cassobeaut evolves into Ostress when given a Dawn Stone.

Ostress (Ostrich+the "ess" suffix)
The PATIENT Pokémon
Ground/Fairy
4'11", 95.4 lbs
Ability: Cute Charm
Gender Ratio: 100% Female
Egg Group: Field, Flying
Dex1: While OSTRESS may appear kind and gentle, they show no remorse when killing their prey. They wait for hours in hiding before attacking.
Dex2: OSTRESS appear sweet, and use this to their advantage when hunting. Few Pokémon can resist after looking into an OSTRESS's eyes.

Apologies for the (slightly) dark Pokedex entries. You can find Striwi in the regional desert and nearby routes. You can also find Dudo and Cassobeaut in the desert, but only in SOS battles.

Professor Teams

They also have a starter Pokemon as a strongest. Their starter varies depending on yours, but it is always the type advantaged. As for the other five
  • Professor Samuel Oak: Rhydon, Arcanine, Exeggutor, Raichu, Gyarados
  • Professor Elm: Utilizes Pokemon originating from eggs/those who used to be Egg Pokemon. Uses Togekiss, Magmortar, Electivire, Jynx, Hitmontop
  • Professor Birch: Utilizes Pokemon with abilities or skill at setting up weather. Uses Mightyena(Intimidate), Weezing(Levitate), Torkoal(Drought), Pelipper(Drizzle), Cacturne(Sand Veil)
  • Professor Rowan: Showcases different evolutions, his starter lv up. Includes Honchkrow(stone), Lopunny(happiness), Lucario(time), Vespiquen(gender), Dusknoir(trade+evolution)
  • Professor Burnet: Uses a Unova Starter, and a Alola Starter to cover that. Utilizes Pokemon from the Dream Radar. The four have their hidden abilities Includes Altaria, Shuckle, Progyon-Z and Spiritomb
  • Aurea Juniper: Invokes hidden abilities. All her Pokemon have them, Includes Cinccino, Zen Mode Darmanitan, Amoongus, Ditto
  • Cedric Juniper: Invokes hidden abilities. All his Pokemon have them. Includes Watchog, Zen Mode Darmanitan, Meinshao, Ditto
  • Professor Sycamore: Has a Kanto starter chosen to be strong against what his Kalos starter is weak to. Utilizes four Pokemon capable of Mega Evolution, which holds the Mega Stone is random. Team consists of Ampharos, Aggron, Lucario and Audino
  • Samson Oak: Uses a Kalos starter, then five Alolan forms. Includes Raichu, Dugtrio, Muk, Exeggutor and Marowak

Sixth "unused-type combo". This will be the first single-stage entry, and uses a type I really hope we get in Gen 9.

Kalamagma (Kalamari+Magma)
The DELECTABLE Pokémon
Fire/Fairy
3'06", 191.4 lbs
Ability: Flame Body
Gender Ratio: Equal
Egg Group: Field, Water 1
Dex1: KALAMAGMA can voluntarily detach a limb to stun a predator. It takes roughly six days for these to grow back.
Dex2: KALAMAGMA can turn a detached tentacle into a delicious meal in minutes. These limbs are considered a great delicacy in many regions.

This pokémon would be only catchable in a volcano area (similar to Fiery Path and Wela Volcano Park), but several chef trainers use it on their teams.

Seventh new-type-combo! Another single-stager, this time with a type combo that Rockruff and Lycanroc should have had.

Namorat (shortening of Naked Mole Rat)
The ODD Pokémon
Normal/Rock
1'02", 2.3 lbs
Ability: Strange Cloak*
Gender Ratio: 100% Male
Egg Group: Field, Mineral
Dex1: NAMORAT's bodies are completely illogical from a scientific standpoint. They are cold-blooded mammals, immune to poisoning, and live in the ground despite being weak to ground-types.
Dex2: NAMORAT's bodies are completely illogical from a scientific standpoint. The first trainer to have seen a NAMORAT was accused of lying and being a fraud.

Strange Cloak: "This Pokémon's skin or fur has a strange coating, protecting it from long-term damage."

If a Pokémon with Strange Cloak gains an effect where it will take damage for multiple turns (Burned, Poisoned, any binding move, etc.), its ability will activate and the effect will "slide off" and now affect the Pokémon that gave the effect. In the case of a Strange Cloak feedback loop, it will stop after each Namorat has used their ability once.

Eighth unused type combo is one I've seen almost no Fakémon of, besides some weird Schrodinger's Cat thing.

Tynyt (Tiny+Night)
The SPOOK CUB Pokémon
Ghost/Normal
1'09", 9.1 lbs
Ability: Cursed Body
Gender Ratio: Equal
Egg Group: Field
Dex1: TYNYT are nocturnal, meaning they sleep during the day and are awake at night. Their power increases in the moonlight.
Dex2: TYNYT are scared and weakened by daylight. Once the sun begins to rise, they seek shelter in dark caves.

Grantasm (Growl+Phantasm)
The SPOOK BEAR Pokémon
Ghost/Normal
3'03", 25.4 lbs
Ability: Cursed Body
Gender Ratio: Equal
Egg Group: Field
Dex1: If you walk through the woods at night and feel your hair stand on end, a GRANTASM might very well be near.
Dex2: GRANTASM have only been sighted at nighttime, training their ghostly abilities. No one knows where they go at daytime...

Spectear (Specter+Bear)
The PHANTOM BEAR Pokémon
Ghost/Normal
7'04", 66.6 lbs
Ability: Cursed Body
Gender Ratio: Equal
Egg Group: Field, Amorphous
Dex1: SPECTEAR have almost fully developed their ghostly powers. If a trainer enters a SPECTEAR's forest at night, there is little chance they will make it out alive.
Dex2: SPECTEAR have many unnatural abilities, such as distorting space and temporarily reanimating dead Pokémon. Few trainers catch them due to their aggressive and dangerous nature.

Tynyt evolves into Grantasm at lvl. 25, which evolves into Spectear at lvl. 50.

Players would be able to find Tynyt in a mid-game forested route at night-time, with Grantasm being a rare call (4%) in SOS battles. The Tynyt line have very high Sp. Attack and good speed and HP, but low Sp. Defense. Tynyt's line and Randorr's line are version exclusives.

Captain Jigglypuff

Leader of Jigglypuff Army
Galarian Gastly line

Galarian Gastly
Ghost/Ice
New Classification: Mist Pokémon
Ability: Levitate

Pokédex Entry: Gastly That Live in the Galar region are often found around the cold caves of mountains. They no longer are comprised of poisonous gases but rather a cold mist like substance. Touching a Gastly will instantly send shivers throughout your body.

Appearance: Galarian Gastly is an icy blue floating orb surrounded by a cloud white mist. Its fangs have an icy look to them

Galarian Haunter
New Classification: Icicle Pokémon
Ability: Levitate

Dex Entry: Deep in the icy caves of the Galar region, Haunter lurk in the darkness. With no pollution to form its physical body, Haunter absorbs ice particles in the air into itself. It blend in so well with the ice covered cave walls that it often hides in plain sight only to jump out and frighten those exploring the caves it lives in. A single touch from its fingers can instantly freeze a glass of water solid.
Appearance: Galarian Haunter has a similar body shape as regular Haunter except it is an icy blue and has longer fingers that are more pointed at the ends.

Galarian Gengar
New Classification: Bitter Cold Pokémon
Ability: Freezing Point
Dex Entry: Galarian Gengar have bodies made of pure ice and have the ability to change themselves from a solid state to a mist like state at Will. Gengar will instantly lower the air around it well below the freezing point. If one should be in the same room as you, don’t touch it! A simple touch will freeze anyone solid in an instant.
Appearance: Galarian Gengar is an icy blue and looks like a giant Gengar ice sculpture. The spikes on its body are much longer and are more pointed and narrow at the ends like an icicle. It also has teeth that are jagged and also look like icicles except smaller and not so pointy.

New Ability Freezing Point- All Physical attacks get a power increase of 10% and have a 50% chance of causing the Freeze status on the target. All attacks that make direct contact with Galarian Gengar will cause the Freeze status.

New Level up moves: Mist (replaces Smog which is now an Egg move), Ice Punch, Freeze Dry (replaces Will-O-Wisp), Icicle Spear, Icicle Crash, Powder Snow, and Blizzard.

Evolutions To Old Pokemon

I'm going to try and be original and not include Pokemon that absolutely need evolution because of how terrible they are(as Sirfetch'd proves, Gamefreak gets along to that eventually)

Paracide, the Infestation Pokemon
Type-Ghost/Grass
Ability-Effect Spore/Dry Skin(normal), Mummy(Hidden)
Evolution: Paras-Lv 22-Parasect-Trade while holding a Strange Fungus-Paracide
Item-Strange Fungus. Holding this item boosts the chance of causing status ailments while in contact, depending on the ability of the user.
Pokedex entry-"The body of Paracide is a mere shell, but the mind has wrestled control over the mushroom. It never gets tired and doesn't need to eat any more, freeing it to form active colonies of fellow Paracide"
Detail-The change to Ghost/Grass, rather than say Bug/Ghost is supposed to represent the Paras bug's spirit now taking the fungus, while the body is redundant at this point. Mummy repesents how the fungus spreads itself

Phantomime, the Barrier Pokemon
Type-Ghost/Fairy
Ability-Dancer(normal), Barrier Buff(hidden)
Evolution: Mime Jr(female)-Learn Mimic while holding an Illusory Shield-Phantomime
Item-Illusory Shield. This move prevents barrier moves like Protect or Reflect from being broken through by moves like Brick Break
Pokedex entry-"Phantomime's eerie movements let it project force fields and barriers. Its leaner body and appearance makes it popular among the gothic community"
Detail-Phantomime is the Mrs Mime, taking a goth girl theme while being a skinner puppet sort of being. So a different uncanny valley than Mr Mime. Referring to pantomimes

Toxeon, the Toxic Pokemon
Type-Poison
Ability-Poison Touch(normal), Poison Boost(Hidden). Poison Boost means poisoning moves will cause badly poisoning, giving more options than Toxic
Evolution: Eevee-Poison Stone-Toxeon
Pokedex entry-"Toxeon lives in harmony with normally deadly bacteria, who help it secrete powerful poisons while also helping digest all but the most inedible substances. They have a strangly sweet and pleasant aroma, though it is a very bad idea to touch them without some sort of protection"
Detail-It's partly a nod to the original plan of Umbreon

Qwilblimp, the Balloon Pokemon
Type-Water/Poison
Ability-Levitate
Evolution: Qwilfish-Poison Stone-Qwilblimp
Item-Poison Stone. Evolves certain Poison types
Pokedex entry-"Qwilblimp develop a second floatation sac to fill with air. To hunt, they float in the air and fire poison spikes on unsuspecting prey below"
Detail-Poison Stone was a planned item in the GS spaceworld demo, thought I'd bring it back. I thought invoking the balloon aspect and giving it Levitate would give the line an advantage over using a Tentacruel, now it only has to worry about Electric and Psychic moves

Predavore, the Consumption Pokemon
Type-Poison/Steel
Ability-Super Acid. Super Acid allows the user to do neutral damage with Poison moves towards Steel, rather than Steel type Pokemon being immune. This ability cannot be copied by another Pokemon; it is exclusive to those with powerful acid
Evolution: Gulpin-Lv 26-Swalot-Poison Stone-Predavore
Pokedex entry-"The acids within Predavore's body are so potent it needs a layer of tough metal to contain it. Predavore expands over its prey and crushes it under the pressure of its body and the dissolving acids

Mournbel, the Foreboding Pokemon
Type-Psychic/Ghost
Ability-Spirit Guide. This ability is a Lightningrod variation that drives Ghost moves of the foe's side to it, while also giving the Pokemon an immunity
Evolution: Chingling-High Friendship during the night-Chimecho-Lv up while learning Haunting Melody at Lv 35-Mournbel
Move: Haunting Melody. This is a Ghost/Special 80 Atk, 100 Acc, 15 PP sound-based move that has a chance of causing a flinch. It is learn-able by the following: Ninetales, Clefairy, Clefable, Zubat, Crobat, Golbat, Gastly, Haunter, Gengar, Cubone, Marowak, Mr Mime, Hoothoot, Noctowl, Misdreavus, Mismagius, Murkrow, Vullaby, Mandibuzz, Chingling, Chimecho, Banette, Duskull, Dusclops, Dusknoir, Drifloon, Drifblim, Spiritomb, Bronzong, Lucario, Uxie, Mesprit, Azelf, Giratina, Darkrai, Sigilyph, Yamask, Cofagrigus, Litwick, Lampent, Chandelure, Phantump, Trevenant, Rowlet, Dartix, Decidueye, Oricorio, Shiinotic, Sandyghast, Palossand
Pokedex-"The haunting melodies of Mournbel guide lost souls to their resting place. They migrate on the wind, to search for others to guide"
Detail: Mournbel references how the line originally debuted on Mt Pyre

Ninth unused type is one that almost no existing 'mons fit into, as well as almost no Fakémon. I almost believe that Game Freak has literally forgotten that this combo can exist.

Hudger (Shortening of Honey Badger)
The BADGER Pokémon
Electric
1'10", 45.6 lbs
Ability: Rivalry/Competitive, (HA=Digger*)
Gender Ratio: 100% Male
Egg Group: Field
Dex1: HUDGER are solitary creatures and keep to themselves. Sightings are rare but span across a large portion of the world.
Dex2: HUDGER are solitary, but aggressive. When they get hungry, they will go on a destructive spree, wreaking havoc upon nearby crops and Pokémon.

When given a thunder stone, Hudger evolves into Bladgeon.

Bladgeon (Bludgeon+Badger)
The BADGER Pokémon
Electric/Fighting
2'05", 70.3 lbs
Ability: Rivalry/Competitive, (HA=Digger*)
Gender Ratio: 100% Male
Egg Group: Field
Dex1: BLADGEON are amazingly strong and aggressive, repelling attacks by much larger Pokémon. During one recorded event, a BLADGEON defeated two PYROAR and a RHYPERIOR.
Dex2: BLADGEON will not stop fighting until one side faints. They can fight for days without being fatigued.

Digger: "A Pokémon with Digger uses its strong limbs to dig in the ground. This gives them a resistance to ground-type moves." (It also gives the Pokémon STAB ground moves.)

Players would be able to catch a Hudger in a mid-game savannah area. Hudger and Bladgeon have really high attack and sp. attack, along with good speed, but have mediocre defense, low sp. defense and horrible HP. Hudger's line and Soclon's line are version-exclusive counterparts.

Tenth entry, and a counterpart to my previous entry! I also feel that this combo could have easily been done by Bewear.

Soclon (Sock+Clown, minus the "w")
The RUBBERY Pokémon
Fairy
2'11", 15.0 lbs
Ability: Berserk/Stamina (HA=Rebound*)
Gender Ratio: 100% Male
Egg Group: Fairy, Human-Like
Dex1: SOCLON waddle around with their little feet, often falling over. This barely fazes them and they immediately get back up.
Dex2: SOCLON's skin is made of a rubbery material. They bounce nearly as often as SPOINK.

When given a Shiny Stone, SOCLON evolves into BOINGRR.

Boingrr (Boing+Grr)
The BOUNCE-BACK Pokémon
Fairy/Fighting
5'09", 60.0 lbs
Ability: Anger Point/Stamina (HA=Rebound*)
Gender Ratio: 100% Male
Egg Group: Fairy, Human-Like
Dex1: It is physically impossible to make a BOINGRR lie down, as they will immediately stand up. If pinned down, they will build up energy until they can burst through the material.
Dex2: Due to their strange anatomy, BOINGRR sleep standing up. If one punches a BOINGRR, it will respond with greater force, often sending trainers to the hospital.

Rebound: "This Pokémon rebounds from attacks. If its HP goes below 50% for the first time in a battle, it will heal 25% of its Max HP."

Players would be able to catch Soclon on some mid-game route. Soclon and Boingrr look like those weird rubber clown things that bounce back up if you hit them. Soclon and Boingrr have good sp. attack and attack, as well as really good HP, but mediocre ph. defense/sp. defense and awful speed. Soclon's line and Hudger's line are version-exclusive counterparts. And yes, Boingrr learns Bounce and Counter.

I have heard way too many people suggest a Poison/Dark evolution for male Salandit, which is stupid. No one would catch a female Salandit, if they could get a better version with a better typing on 7/8 salandits.

I think Male Salandit should get an Evolution that is still Poison/Fire but it has stats a bit lower than Salazzle and can only evolve at the same level as female Salandit with the special condition that your entire team must not have any female Pokémon at the time of evolution and during the day only.

I guess, but for a bandit Pokemon the Dark or evil type seemed fitting. Hmm...maybe I should have it have Pickpocket as its main ability so Salazzle has Corrosion. Or Dark/Fire?

Glass Shield
Type-Rock/Status
Atk-N/A
Acc-N/A
PP-15
Effect-The user is protected from damage. Consecutive use lowers the chance of it working. If the opponent bypasses this, they are hurt with the same damage they inflict on the opponent

Eleventh entry for Unused Type-Combos, and my first Ultra Beast entry. I love the concept behind Ultra Beasts, but wish we had gotten more.

Hybrore (Hybrid+corruption of Roar) / UB-08 RIDER
The TRAVELLING Pokémon
Bug/Normal
9'08", 299.9 lbs
Ability: Beast Boost
Gender Ratio: Genderless
Egg Group: Undiscovered
Dex1: HYBRORE are one of the Ultra Beasts. They were first seen running faster than lightning out of Ultra Wormholes.
Dex2: HYBRORE do not eat or sleep, only riding further and further towards an unknown location. No one knows what they are searching for.

Hybrore has a centaur-ish body plan, with the upper half resembling a humanoid alien with large eyes and no mouth, and the lower half being similar to that of a praying mantis. They have four legs and two swiping arms, and the entire body of a Hybrore is a strange off-white in color. A hybrore can be encountered within the Ultra Grove, with several more being visible in the background.

Since the likelihood of regional forms/evolutions for Sinnoh is low, so is DPPt remakes using Platinum regional dex, here's a few possible new pre-evos/side-evos for the remakes:

Pre-evolutions:
Since the stats and EV yields have not changed significantly from the last gen outside of Aegislash's nerf, this means species that can get pre-evos must have at least 2 EV yields in total. This means the following can get pre-evos:
  1. Heracross
  2. (Unown)
  3. Girafarig
  4. Carnivine
  5. Spiritomb
  6. (Rotom).
If we add Platinum dex, the number rises substantially:
  1. Lickitung
  2. Tropius
  3. Absol
Post-regional dex options include stuff like Sigilyph, Druddigon etc.

Side-evolutions:

For side-evos, we consider two routes, species with heterodox evolutionary methods (specific move+ level up etc.), and species with pre-existing side-evos.

Move+Level Up:

OG dex:
  1. Aipom
  2. Mime Jr.
  3. Bonsly
Platinum dex:
  1. Yanma
  2. Piloswine
  3. Tangela
  4. Lickitung
Location+Level Up:

OG dex: N/A

Platinum dex:
  1. Nosepass
  2. (Eevee)
  3. Magneton
Item+Level Up:

OG dex:
  1. Sneasel
Platinum dex:
  1. Gligar
Item+Trade:
OG dex:
  1. Onix
Platinum dex:
  1. Rhydon
  2. Dusclops
  3. Porygon, Porygon 2
  4. Scyther
  5. Electabuzz
  6. Magmar
Species with pre-existing split evos:

OG dex:
  1. Wurmple
Platinum dex:
  1. Eevee
  2. Snover
  3. Kirlia

Overall we should conservatively estimate about 7 new Pokémon (certainly more than 5, the amount of new species in USUM), one of which will likely be a Mythical.

Edit: Corrected minor error, Mr. Rime is the evolution of Galarian Mr. Mime, not its side-evo.

Time for the thirteenth entry, which also is a new regional variant. Given Alola and Galar, it now is a decent possibility that regional variants will continue as a gimmick in new games, although let's wait til Gen 9 before making more assumptions. For ease, I'll just call these Galarian forms.

Galarian Psyduck
The DUCK Pokémon
Poison
2'06", 42.3 lbs
Ability: Rattled/Poison Touch
Gender Ratio: Equal
Egg Group: Water 1, Field
Dex1: PSYDUCK have adapted to much harsher and toxic environments. While they can still swim, their watery powers have sharply declined.
Dex2: When PSYDUCK has one its characteristic headaches, a strange substance leaks from its pores. While toxic, this liquid can also be used to make medicine.

G-Psyduck evolves at lvl. 33.

Galarian Golduck
The DUCK Pokémon
Poison/Psychic
5'04", 161.5 lbs
Ability: Rattled/Poison Touch
Gender Ratio: Equal
Egg Group: Water 1, Field
Dex1: GOLDUCK has adapted to the poisoning of its habitat. Its own sweat can corrode steel.
Dex2: GOLDUCK lurk under the surface of lakes. When a fish Pokémon swims by, GOLDUCK will disable it using its psychic powers before poisoning and eating it.

G-Psyduck and G-Golduck resemble their Kantonese counterparts, but are shorter and have purple skin and black beaks. Golduck's gem is larger and has a pink coloration. In shiny form, G-Psyduck and G-Golduck are a toxic green with dark red beaks, and in the case of G-Golduck's gem, purple.

G-Psyduck would be found in a mid-game (4th gym) poisonous lake with fog coming off of it. Other Pokémon you can find near or in the lake include: Tentacool/Tentacruel (Exclusive to Blue/Silver/Sapphire equivalent), Gulpin, Carvanha/Sharpedo (Exclusive to Red/Gold/Ruby equivalent), Seviper (Exclusive to B/S/S equivalent), Zangoose (Exclusive to R/G/R equivalent), Foonguss, and Gastly.
